Signaling and Control Procedures Using Generalized MPLS Protocol for IP over an Optical Network

  • This paper reviews the existing research activities on signaling and control procedures for IP over optical networks. We focus on the IP-centric signaling and control architecture based on the generalized multi-protocol label switching (GMPLS) protocol and analyze various scenarios and technical issues for deploying the IP over an optical network. We analyze the signaling and operations and administration and maintenance requirements for integrating an IP network and an optical network in order to cope with the high bandwidth and poor resource granularity of the optical network, including the optical cross-connect system. On the basis of network architecture and a reference configuration model, we investigate the GMPLS-based control architecture and interconnection model appropriate for controlling IP bandwidth and optical lambda resources. The signaling and control procedure based on GMPLS on optical user-network interface and network-network interface are comparatively investigated to provide the optical lightpath. We also study protection and restoration procedures to protect link failure when it applies to generalized MPLS signaling.

Microwave Signal Spectrum Broadening System Based on Time Compression

  • We propose and experimentally demonstrate an all-optical radio frequency (RF) spectrum broadening system based on time compression. By utilizing the procedure of dispersion compensation values, the frequency domain is broadened by compressing the linear chirp optical pulse which has been multiplexed by the radio frequency. A detailed mathematical description elucidates that the time compression is a very preferred scheme for spectrum broadening. We also report experimental results to prove this method, magnification factor at 2.7, 8 and 11 have been tested with different dispersion values of fiber, the experimental results agree well with the theoretical results. The proposed system is flexible and the magnification factor is determined by the dispersion values, the proposed scheme is a linear system. In addition, the influence of key parameters, for instance optical bandwidth and the sideband suppression ratio (SSR), are discussed. Magnification factor 11 of the proposed system is demonstrated.

  • The Internet traffic is forecasted to grow at a compound annual rate of 21 % from 2013 to 2018, according to surveys carried out by Cisco [1]. Network resources are significantly over-provisioned in today's networks, and it is quite common to see link utilization in the 30-40% range [2]. Additionally, the multi-media services have widely divergent bandwidth and Quality of Experience (QoE) requirements. Unfortunately, the huge transmission capacity will increase the power consumption of network equipment [3]. Applications Coordinated with Transport, Internet Protocol and Optical Networks (ACTION) [4] has been proposed to realize a multi-QoE, application-centric, and highly energy-efficient network that leverages flexible elastic optical network technologies [5-7]. This paper provides key network technologies for realizing the ACTION, which are a virtual optical slice core network and a Time Division Multiplexing (TDM)-based deterministic active optical access network.

엑세스 잡음 억압에 의한 광센서 네트워크에서의 동시 접속 가능한 광센서 수량의 증가 (Improvement of Number of Sensors Simultaneously Connected to Optical Sensor Network Using Frequency domain Optical CDMA with Excess Noise Suppression)

  • 주파수 영역 광 CDMA방식에 의한 광센서 네트워크에서 접속 가능한 광센서의 수량을 증가시키기 위하여 이득 포화 증폭기를 사용하여 액세스 잡음을 억압한다. 시뮬레이션 분석을 통하여 제안 광센서 네트워크에서 광센서의 스위핑 주파수를 10MHz이하로 설정하고 이득 포화증폭기의 이득을 증가시키면 엑세스잡음이 억압되고, 동시에 접속 가능한 광센서의 수가 종래의 방식에 비해 대폭으로 개선되는 것을 알 수 있다. 요구 SNR이 20dB이고 광센서의 스위핑 주파수가 10MHz일 경우 이득 포화 증폭기의 이득을 10dB로 설정하면 동시에 접속 가능한 광센서의 수가 종래의 방식에 비해 4배 이상으로 개선되는 것을 알 수 있다.

광인터넷망 구조 분석과 UNI 시그널링 프로토콜을 이용한 광전송 실험 (Structure Analysis of Optical Internet Network and Optical Transmission Experiments Using UNI Signaling Protocol)

  • 본 논문에서는 광인터넷의 구조 설계에 대한 분석과 광서비스망에서 UNI(User Network Interface) 시그널링 프로토콜을 이용한 광전송 실험을 시행하였다. 광인터넷의 계층에 따른백본망, 서비스망, 액세스망에 대한 세부적인 구조를 보여주었고, 각 계층에서 필요한 기능들에 대하여 기술하였다. 이어서 광전달 계층의 제어 구조, 운용관리망 구조, 망간 연동 기술 그리고 라우팅 및 신호망에 대한 기능적 요구조건들을 제시하였다. 이러한 광인터넷망에서 OIF(Optical Internetworking Forum)에 의해서 규정된 UNI 시그널링 프로토콜을 사용하여 전송 실험을 하였다. LSP(Label Switched Path)에 트래픽을 전송하여 설정된 경로를 따라서 메시지가 UNI에 전달되었고, 스위칭을 통하여 최종 목적지에 도착한 TCP(Transmission Control Protocol) 패킷(packet) 값을 보여줌으로서 실시한 광전송이 성공적으로 완료되었음을 확인하였다.

간섭잡음을 억압한 양극성 수신기와 PN 부호에 의한 광 CDMA 방식을 사용한 센서 네트워크 (Multiple Access Interference Suppressed Sensor Network Using Optical CDMA with Bipolar Receiver and Modified PN Code)

  • 양극성수신기와 무선통신에서 널리 사용되고 있는 PN(pseudo random noise) 부호를 수정하여 적용시킨 광 CDMA 방식을 사용한 광센서 네트워크를 제안한다. 광 센서 네트워크에서 특성을 수치적으로 분석하였다. 센서사이와 광 CDMA의 디코더에 광섬유형지연기를 사용하여 광 CDMA의 인코더와 디코더간 동기를 맞추고, 광지연기의 지연을 PN 부호의 칩폭보다 크게 하면 센서간 간섭잡음을 완전히 제거할 수 있다. 광 신호간 비트 잡음이 잡음전력을 지배하기 때문에 광센서 네트워크에 접속할 수 있는 광 센서의 수를 증가시키기 위하여 광신호간 비트 잡음을 억압하여야 한다.

Enhanced Dynamic Bandwidth Allocation Algorithm in Ethernet Passive Optical Networks

  • As broadband access is evolving from digital subscriber lines to optical access networks, Ethernet passive optical networks (EPONs) are considered a promising solution for next generation broadband access. The point-to-multipoint topology of EPONs requires a time-division multiple access MAC protocol for upstream transmission. In this paper, we propose a new enhanced dynamic bandwidth allocation algorithm with fairness called EFDBA for multiple services over EPONs. The proposed algorithm is composed of a fairness counter controller and a fairness system buffer in the optical line terminal. The EFDBA algorithm with fairness can provide increased capability and efficient resource allocation in an EPON system. In the proposed EFDBA algorithm, the optical line termination allocates bandwidth to the optical network units in proportion to the fairness weighting counter number associated with their class and queue length. The proposed algorithm provides efficient resource utilization by reducing the unused remaining bandwidth made by idle state optical network units.

Survivability in the Optical Internet Using the Optical Burst Switch

  • Due to its salient features, the optical burst switch is becoming a key technology for the optical Internet. Within this technology, the survivability issue in the optical Internet has to be addressed because a simple failure causes severe damage to the huge amount of data carried in optical fiber. In this paper, we introduce a restoration procedure that can provide good survivability in the optical burst switch (OBS)-based optical Internet. OBS restoration can survive various types of network failure while maintaining good network performance. We propose novel restoration mechanisms, namely, "temporary Label Switched Path (LSP)" and "bossy LSP," to enhance restoration time and network utilization. The simulation results verify that the proposed OBS restoration achieves good network performance and provides good network connectivity as well.

광 송수신기채널 유닛 설계에 관한 연구 (A Study on a Design of the Optical Transceiver Channel Unit)

  • 오늘날 급격히 증가되고 있는 광 대역 멀티미디어 서비스, 초고속 대용량 인터넷 서비스 등을 가입자에게 제공하기 위해서는 광 가입자망 기반의 네트워크 구성이 필수적이다. 최근 효율적이고 경제적인 광 가입자망 구축을 위한 기술들이 빠르게 개발됨에 따라 효율적인 네트워크 구성이 가능하게 되었다. 이중 대표적인 기술로 PON(Passive Optical Network)을 이용하여 ONU(Optical Network Unit)를 공유하는 방식의 WDM(Wavelength Division Multiplexing)-PON 기술이 있으며, 이를 이용한 FTTH(Fiber to The Home)시스템에 대한 개발이 활발히 이루어지고 있다. 본 논문에서는 데이터 전송 시 출력 광 파워에 따라 데이터 변조 전류를 자동으로 최적화 시킬 수 있는 방법에 관하여 연구하였다.

Bridge-edges Mining in Complex Power Optical Cable Network based on Minimum Connected Chain Attenuation Topological Potential

  • The edges with "bridge characteristic" play the role of connecting the communication between regions in power optical cable network. To solve the problem of mining edges with "bridge characteristic" in provincial power optical cable network, the complex power optical cable network model is constructed. Firstly, to measure the generated potential energy of all nodes in n-level neighborhood local structure for one edge, the n-level neighborhood local structure topological potential is designed. And the minimum connected chain attenuation is designed to measure the attenuation degree caused by substituted edges. On the basis of that, the minimum connected chain attenuation topological potential based measurement is designed. By using the designed measurement, a bridge-edges mining algorithm is proposed to mine edges with "bridge characteristic". The experiments are conducted on the physical topology of the power optical cable network in Jilin Province. Compared with that of other three typical methods, the network efficiency and connectivity of the proposed method are decreased by 3.58% and 28.79% on average respectively. And the proposed method can not only mine optical cable connection with typical "bridge characteristic" but also can mine optical cables without obvious characteristics of city or voltage, but it have "bridge characteristic" in the topology structure.
