  • A remote control strategy for vehicles in Intelligent Vehicle Highway System (IVHS) is considered. An optimal scheduling of a limited communication channel is proposed for lead vehicle control in a platoon. The optimal scheduling problem is to find the optimal communication sequence that minimizes the cost obtained inherently by an optimal control without the communication constraint. In this paper, the PID control law which guarantees the string stability is used for the lead vehicle control. The fact that the PID control law is equivalent to the approximately linear quadratic tracker allows to obtain the performance measure to find an optimal sequence. Simulations are conducted with five maneuvering platoons to evaluate the optimality of the obtained sequence.

  • Long bridges, such as suspension bridges and diagonal bridges, are complex phenomena that show different behaviors depending on the shape and rigidity of the cross sections, such as wind vibrations and liquid vibrations from earthquakes in liquid storage containers. This is called the lower skirt on the lower side of the bridge, and the installation of lower skirt is effective for release and vortex vibrations caused by rapid winds, and that increases the stability of the wind resistance of the bridge. Optimal shape and installation of the lower skirt is also essential to make maximum wind speed effect of the lower skirt. Therefore, this study proposes a numerical analysis method to control the vibration of a bridge by calculating the optimal installation angle of an optimal lower skirt according to the optimal control theory and this study evaluates the impact on the optimal control system by minimizing the dominance equation with an evaluation function, which is an indicator for evaluating the optimal control theory state.

  • In this paper, a new development in the time optimal control theory in sliding mode control systems for multi-quadrant buck converters with a variable load is presented. In general, the closed-loop time optimal control system is applied to multi-quadrant buck converters for output regulation, so that an optimal switching surface is obtained. Moreover, an adjusted optimal sliding mode controller is suggested which adjusts the controller parameters to give an optimal switching surface. In addition, a description of the transient response of the closed-loop system is proposed and used to damp any output or input disturbances in minimum time. Numerical simulations and experimental results are employed to demonstrate that the output regulation time and transient performances of dc/dc converters using the proposed technique are improved effectively when compared to the classical sliding mode control method.

  • The budget deficit is closely related to expansionary fiscal policy as a fiscal instrument to encourage economic growth. This study aims to apply optimal control theory in the Keynesian macroeconomic model for the economy, so that optimal growth can be found. Macroeconomic variables include GDP, consumption, investment, exports, imports, and budget deficit as control variables. This study uses secondary data in the form of time series, the time period 1990 to 2018. Performing optimal control will result in optimal fiscal policy. The optimal determination is done through simulation, for the period 2019-2023. The discrete optimal control problem is to minimize the objective function in the form of a quadratic function against the deviation of the state variable and control variable from the target value and the optimal value. Meanwhile, the constraint is Keynes' macroeconomic model. The results showed that the optimal value of macroeconomic variables has a deviation from the target values consisting of: consumption, investment, exports, imports, GDP, and budget deficit. The largest deviation from the average during the simulation occurs in GDP, followed by investment, exports, and the budget deficit. Meanwhile, the lowest average deviation is found in imports.

  • In this paper, we presented a new algebraic iterative algorithm for the optimal control of the nonlinear systems. The algorithm is based on tow steps. The first step transforms optimal control problem into a sequence of linear optimal control problem using the quasilinearization method. In the second step, TPB(two point boundary condition problem) is solved by algebraic equations instead of differential equations using BPF(block pulse functions). The proposed algorithm is simple and efficient in computation for the optimal control of nonlinear systems. In computer simulation, the algorithm was verified through the optimal control design of Van del pole system and Volterra Predatory-prey system.

  • This paper is concerned with the optimal control problem for the viscous weakly dispersive Benjamin-Bona-Mahony (BBM) equation. We prove the existence and uniqueness of weak solution to the equation. The optimal control problem for the viscous weakly dispersive BBM equation is introduced, and then the existence of optimal control to the problem is proved.

  • Mathematical formulation and numerical solutions of an optimal Dirichlet boundary control problem for the Boussinesq equations are considered. The solution of the optimal control problem is obtained by adjusting of the temperature on the boundary. We analyze finite element approximations. A gradient method for the solution of the discrete optimal control problem is presented and analyzed. Finally, the results of some computational experiments are presented.

  • In this paper we apply the maximum principle to design of time optimal nonlinear sampled-data control systems. We introduce the general design procedures and the mathematical formalas for time optimal processes and trajectories. Then we show the application of the technique to determine the optimal control signal, control sequence, switching time and sampling period to the given 4th order process.
