  • The existing steganalysis method based on 2D Gabor filters can achieve a competitive detection performance for content-adaptive JPEG steganography. However, the feature dimensionality is still high and the time-consuming of feature extraction is relatively large because the optimal selection is not performed for 2D Gabor filters. To solve this problem, a new steganalysis method is proposed for content-adaptive JPEG steganography by selecting the optimal 2D Gabor filters. For the proposed method, the 2D Gabor filters with different parameter settings are generated first. Then, the feature is extracted by each 2D Gabor filter and the corresponding detection accuracy is used as the measure for filter selection. Next, some 2D Gabor filters are selected by a greedy strategy and the steganalysis feature is extracted by the selected filters. Last, the ensemble classifier is used to assemble the proposed steganalysis feature as well as the final steganalyzer. The experimental results show that the steganalysis feature extracted by the selected optimal 2D Gabor filters also can achieve a competitive detection performance while the feature dimensionality is reduced greatly.

  • The Optimal filter yielding optimal texture feature separation is a most effective technique for extracting the texture objects from multiple textures images. But, most optimal filter design approaches are restricted to the issue of supervised problems. No full-unsupervised method is based on the recognition of texture objects in image. We propose a novel approach that uses unsupervised learning schemes for efficient texture image analysis, and the band-pass feature of Gabor-filter is used for the optimal filter design. In our approach, the self-organizing neural network for multiple texture image identification is based on block-based clustering. The optimal frequency of Gabor-filter is turned to the optimal frequency of the distinct texture in frequency domain by analyzing the spatial frequency. In order to show the performance of the designed filters, after we have attempted to build a various texture images. The texture objects extraction is achieved by using the designed Gabor-filter. Our experimental results show that the performance of the system is very successful.

  • Aiming at the defect detection quality of denim fabric, this paper designs an improved algorithm based on the optimized Gabor filter. Firstly, we propose an improved defect detection algorithm of jean fabric based on the maximum two-dimensional image entropy and the loss evaluation function. Secondly, 24 Gabor filter banks with 4 scales and 6 directions are created and the optimal filter is selected from the filter banks by the one-dimensional image entropy algorithm and the two-dimensional image entropy algorithm respectively. Thirdly, these two optimized Gabor filters are compared to realize the common defect detection of denim fabric, such as normal texture, miss of weft, hole and oil stain. The results show that the improved algorithm has better detection effect on common defects of denim fabrics and the average detection rate is more than 91.25%.

  • The design of optimal filter yielding optimal texture feature separation is a most effective technique in many torture analyzing areas, such as perception of surface, object, shape and depth. But, most optimal filter design approaches are restricted to the issue of computational complexity and supervised problems. In this paper, Our proposed method yields new insight into the design of optimal Gabor filters for segmenting multiple texture images. The optimal frequency of Gator filter is turned to the optimal frequency of the distinct texture in frequency domain. In order to show the performance of the designed filters, we have attempted to build a various texture images. Our experimental results show that the performance of the system is very successful.

  • In the process of the sonar image textures produced, the orientation and scale factors are very significant. However, most of the related methods ignore the directional information and scale invariance or just pay attention to one of them. To overcome this problem, we apply Gabor wavelet to extract the features of sonar images, which combine the advantages of both the Gabor filter and traditional wavelet function. The mother wavelet is designed with constrained parameters and the optimal parameters will be selected at each orientation, with the help of bandwidth parameters based on the Fisher criterion. The Gabor wavelet can have the properties of both multi-scale and multi-orientation. Based on our experiment, this method is more appropriate than traditional wavelet or single Gabor filter as it provides the better discrimination of the textures and improves the recognition rate effectively. Meanwhile, comparing with other fusion methods, it can reduce the complexity and improve the calculation efficiency.

  • As the exploration of the seabed is extended ever further, automated recognition and classification of sonar images become increasingly important. However, most of the methods ignore the directional information and its effect on the image textures produced. To deal with this problem, we apply 2D Gabor filters to extract the features of sonar images. The filters are designed with constrained parameters to reduce the complexity and to improve the calculation efficiency. Meanwhile, at each orientation, the optimal Gabor filter parameters will be selected with the help of bandwidth parameters based on the Fisher criterion. This method can overcome some disadvantages of the traditional approaches of extracting texture features, and improve the recognition rate effectively.

  • Image thresholding techniques introducing spatial information are widely used image segmentation. Some methods are used to calculate the optimal threshold by building a specific histogram with different parameters, such as gray value of pixel, average gray value and gradient-magnitude, etc. However, these methods still have some limitations. In this paper, an entropic thresholding method based on Gabor histogram (a new 2D histogram constructed by using Gabor filter) is applied to image segmentation, which can distinguish foreground/background, edge and noise of image effectively. Comparing with some methods, including 2D-KSW, GLSC-KSW, 2D-D-KSW and GLGM-KSW, the proposed method, tested on 10 realistic images for segmentation, presents a higher effectiveness and robustness.

  • For the handwritten digit recognition, this paper Proposes a hierarchical Gator features extraction method and a Bayesian network for them. Proposed Gator features are able to represent hierarchically different level information and Bayesian network is constructed to represent hierarchically structured dependencies among these Gator features. In order to extract such features, we define Gabor filters level by level and choose optimal Gabor filters by using Fisher's Linear Discriminant measure. Hierarchical Gator features are extracted by optimal Gabor filters and represent more localized information in the lower level. Proposed methods were successfully applied to handwritten digit recognition with well-known naive Bayesian classifier, k-nearest neighbor classifier. and backpropagation neural network and showed good performance.
