  • In this paper we consider the optimal control problem of both operators and parameters for nonlinear hyperbolic systems. For the identification problem, we show that for every value of the parameter and operators, the optimal control problem has a solution. Moreover we obtain the necessary conditions of optimality for the optimal control problem on the system.

  • This paper studies the multi-domain coupled system of one dimensional Arctic temperature field and establishes identification model about the thermodynamic parameters of sea ice (heat storage capacity, density and conductivity) by the so-called output least-square estimate according to the temperature data acquired by a monitor buoy installed in the Arctic ocean. By the optimal control theory, the existence and dependability of weak solution and the identifiability of identification model have been given. Moreover, necessary optimality condition is proposed. Furthermore, the optimal algorithm for the identification model is constructed. By using the optimal thermodynamic parameters of Arctic sea ice, the numerical simulation is implemented, and the numerical results of temperature distribution of Arctic sea ice are demonstrated.

  • This paper suggest an optimal identification method to complex and nonlinear system modeling that is based on Fuzzy-Neural Network(FNN). The FNN modeling implements parameter identification using HCM algorithm and optimal identification algorithm structure combined with two types of optimization theories for nonlinear systems, we use a HCM Clustering Algorithm to find initial parameters of membership function. The parameters such as parameters of membership functions, learning rates and momentum coefficients are adjusted using optimal identification algorithm. The proposed optimal identification algorithm is carried out using both a genetic algorithm and the improved complex method. Also, an aggregate objective function(performance index) with weighted value is proposed to achieve a sound balance between approximation and generalization abilities of the model. To evaluate the performance of the proposed model, we use the time series data for gas furnace, the data of sewage treatment process and traffic route choice process.

  • Structural deflection can be identified from measured strains from long gague sensors, but the sensor layout scheme greatly influences on the accuracy of identified resutls. To determine the optimal sensor layout scheme for accurate deflection identification of the tied arch bridge, the method of optimal layout of long-gauge fiber optic sensors is studied, in which the characteristic curve is first developed by using the bending macro-strain curve under multiple target load conditions, then optimal sensor layout scheme with different number of sensors are determined. A tied arch bridge is studied as an example to verify the effectiveness and robustness of the proposed method for static and dynamic deflection identification.

  • Parameter identification problem of a three species (predator, mutualist-prey, and mutualist) ecological system with reaction-diffusion phenomenon is investigated in this paper. The mathematical model of the parameter identification problem is constructed and continuous dependence of the solution for the direct problem on the parameters identified is obtained. Finally, the existence of optimal solution and an optimality necessary condition for the parameter identification problem are given.

  • In this paper, an optimal PID sliding mode controller is proposed for the position control of electro-hydrostatic actuator(ERA) systems with system uncertainties and saturation in the motor. An ERA prototype is developed and system modeling and parameter identification are executed. Then, optimal PID and optimal anti-windup PID controller are designed based on identified system model by using optimization toolbox in MA TLAB/Simulink and the performance of the two control systems are compared by experiment. It was found that the optimal anti-windup PID control system has better performance than the optimal anti-windup PID control system.

  • This paper investigates the optimal sensor placements and capabilities of this procedure for dynamic characteristics identification of arch dams. For this purpose, a prototype arch dam is constructed in laboratory conditions. Berke arch dam located on the Ceyhan River in city of Osmaniye is one of the highest arch dam constructed in Turkey is selected for field verification. The ambient vibration tests are conducted using initial candidate sensor locations at the beginning of the study. Enhanced Frequency Domain Decomposition and Stochastic Subspace Identification methods are used to extract experimental dynamic characteristics. Then, measurements are repeated according to optimal sensor locations of the dams. These locations are specified using the Effective Independence Method. To determine the optimal sensor locations, the target mode shape matrices which are obtained from ambient vibration tests of the selected dam with a large number of accelerometers are used. The dynamic characteristics obtained from each ambient vibrations tests are compared with each other. It is concluded that the dynamic characteristics obtained from initial measurements and those obtained from a limited number of sensors are compatible with each other. This situation indicates that optimal sensor placements determined by the Effective Independence Method are useful for dynamic characteristics identification of arch dams.

  • The response sensitivity method in time domain has been applied extensively for damage identification. In this paper, the relationship between the error of damage identification and the sensitivity matrix is investigated through perturbation analysis. An index is defined according to the perturbation amplify effect and an optimal sensor placement method is proposed based on the minimization of that index. A sequential sub-optimal algorithm is presented which results in consistently good location selection. Numerical simulations with a two-dimensional high truss structure are conducted to validate the proposed method. Results reveal that the damage identification using the optimal sensor placement determined by the proposed method can identify multiple damages of the structure more accurately.

  • In order to optimize fuzzy model, we use the optimal algorithm with a hybrid type in the identification of premise parameters and standard least square method in the identification of consequence parameters of a fuzzy model. The hybrid optimal identification algorithm is carried out using a genetic algorithm and improved complex method. Also, the performance index with weighting factor is proposed to achieve a balance between the insults of performance for the training and testing data. Several numerical examples are used to evaluate the performance of the proposed model.
