Objective: The aim of the study is to evaluate the difference of legibility between e-book and paper-book by using eye-tracker. Background: Despite of many researches on the e-book and paper-book, there are few researches on the difference between e-book and paper-book. In addition, the researches on the e-book were only dependent on the e-book reader. This study focused on the comparison of e-book and paper-book controlled with the same environments. Method: This study was conducted with $2{\times}3$ within-subject design. Independent variables include the types of book (e-book, paper-book) and font sizes (8pt, 10pt, 12pt). Dependent variables are four measures of fixation duration, saccade length, blink rate and subjective discomfort. Analysis of Variance (ANOVA) with repeated measured design was used to investigate the main and interaction effects of independent variables on each of the dependent variables. The multiple comparisons were performed by post hoc analysis and Bonferroni correction was applied. Results: Fixation duration at e-book was longer than paper-book (p<0.01). Saccade length at e-book was shorter than paper-book (p<0.05). Blink rate at e-book was higher than paper-book (p<0.1). Subjective discomfort at e-book was higher than paper-book (p<0.1). Legibility at 8pt was better than 10pt, 12pt (p<0.01) in fixation duration, saccade length and subjective discomfort. Conclusion: It was found that the legibility at e-book are worse than paper-book from this study. These results indicated that the legibility of e-book was needed to be validated and improved to replace the paper-book. Application: This study suggests improving something related to fixation duration, saccade length, blink rate and subjective discomfort for betterment of e-book.
Background and objective: This study was conducted to examine the effects of the theme-based garden book (photo book) making integration program on social skills and self-determination of college students with developmental disabilities. Methods: We analyzed the changes in social skills and self-determination of college students with developmental disabilities. The first step was defining the theme-based garden book (photo book) making integration program, which was done by focus group interviews (FGI) comprised of specialists in the industry and academia. The second step was carrying out 8 sessions of the program. The third step was examining the effects of the program on social skills and self-determination of college students with developmental disabilities. The participants of this study were 36 college students with developmental disabilities attending N University, and 17 students were in the experiment group and the other 19 in the control group. Results: The control group showed no statistically significant changes in the three sub-domains of social skills, while the experimental group showed statistically significant differences across all three sub-domains, such as cooperation(P < .05), assertion(P < .05), and self-control(P < .05). The experimental group, that participated in the program showed statistically significant differences across all four sub-domains of self-determination skills, such as behavior (P < .05), cognition(P < .05), school support(P < .05) and home support(P < .05). This proved that the theme-based garden book (photo book) making program contributed to bringing positive effects to self-determination and social skills. Conclusion: These results suggest that the theme-based garden book (photo book) making integration program could improve self-determination and social skills of college students with developmental disabilities. These positive changes are related to the high level of interest in theme-based garden design programs among college students with developmental disabilities, and thus these programs can be used effectively to improve social adjustment.
This longitudinal study examined picture book reading practices with very young children and its influence on early intellectual development. The home picture book reading activities of 322 infants and their mothers were assessed by questionnaire every 6 months from 18 months till 42 months of age. Infants' IQ was measured with Korean-Wechsler Preschool and Primary Scale of Intelligence(Park et al., 1996) at 42 months. Results showed that monthly book expense (r=.28, p<.01) and infants' asking for reading (r=.14, p<.05) at 18 months were positively correlated with IQ at 42 months. Reading time between 24 and 42 months correlated positively with IQ(r=.17~.34, p<.01). These results reveal the importance of early book environment and actual reading time in the intellectual development of very young children.
The purpose of this study was to examine the designs of the menu books as an important tool of marketing and then present its improvement strategies. For this, the investigator comparatively examined the current status of menu book designs of the restaurants in Incheon area with 295 managers and then analyzed menu book designs by its designers. Menu book designers were printing houses (42.0%), specialized business (31.9%) and managers/employees (26.1%). 51.5% of menu books were impossible to substitute partially. Even there were seasonal menus or event menus, 27.5% of them were impossible to replace menu books partially; therefore, it was impossible to take a prompt action for seasonal or event menus. The easiness of understanding the terminology in menu books was average $2.74{\pm}0.45$(3-point scale). The harmony of menu book design with restaurants was average $2.46{\pm}0.51$ (3-point scale). Comparing to the menu books designed in specialized business, the menu books designed in printing houses or by managers/employees were uniform in type sizes (p < 0.001), had no menu photos (p < 0.001) and explanations (p < 0.001), and did not classify menus by groups (p < 0.001) in general. In addition, profit-making menus were not properly emphasized (p < 0.001), thus making the design of menu books a little improper. Therefore, it is necessary to educate managers in the restaurants to understand the importance of menu books and thus improve it. In addition, by maintaining close communication with designers of menu books, managers in the restaurants must ensure for their menu books to be designed appropriately, thus making their menu books play the role of an important marketing tool.
This study was conducted to develop and test effects of E-book based Flipped Learning education for nursing students. This study was one-group pretest-posttest design. The data were collected from 54 second-year nursing students in the located Y city and August 28 2017 to October 16 2017. In recent times, the high-tech society has become the most important issue by IT technology and publication network. Today such flows have also been the case in the e-book field. Today's electronic publication is changing day by day. But there are some problems according to the prevalence of e-book. E-book is similar to p-book(paper-book). There is a limit to have perfect feeling of a texture of p-book. In order to purchase an e-book, people use online. People having malicious intent could copy and distribute it illegally. It leads to cyber abuses. This paper aims at the copyright protection of e-book ePub writers. The proposed e-book copyright protection system is designed using e-book production Sigil environment and C program environment. This system uses client-server communication through e-book ePub as authentication information. It discerns whether to permit or not for a client to read the e-book using authentication information. Authentication information includes ID, password, IP address, limited time of authentication information, GUID(Globally Unique Identifier). If authentication information about e-book meets requirements, people can use it. But if not, it blocks people's approach by quitting program.

Recently as AR(Augmented Reality) is focus of attention, AR is applied to various fields and is expected its valuable use. In this paper, we suggested the method to combine existing e_Book with augmented reality technology based on mobile equipment. We ascertained that augmented reality contents implemented on PC work well in pITX embedded lines (CPU Intel ATOM Z530) and we implemented augmented reality using marker in e_ Book in pITX embedded lines through these experiments. As the result of it, we could show the contents at the same time which had difficulty to be expressed on e_Book before. Also the existing augmented reality contents could be used as it is. Finally we expected that the user could interact with virtual contents or services directly and intuitively in the real world.
In order to aide in the design of an improved menu book, which could play an important role as a marketing tool, the current version of the menu books and managers (subjects) of 295 restaurants in the Incheon area were examined. These were managers of Korean (36.3%), Western (25.8%), Japanese (14.6%), cafeteria (12.5%) and Chinese (10.8%) style restaurants. The level of service (self-evaluation, 3-point scale) was average $2.25{\pm}0.45$. The general colorings of the menu books were green (19.0%), brown (18.6%), black (17.6%), yellow (15.9%), red (13.6%) and blue (13.2%). The material of the menu book cover was mainly leather (35.9%), and the internal material was mainly coated paper (59.7%). Physically, the design was two-panel fold (38.3%), two-panel multi-page (35.6%), die style (10.2%), single panel (8.1%) and tent style (7.8%). The type sizes were unchanged in 49.9% of the menu books and in 61.7% photos were not used. 53.9% of menu books did not explain the menus, and 13.2% did not classify the items into groups. Emphasis of profit-making menus was not done in 66.8%. 51.5% of menu books were irreplaceable in parts. The emphasis of profit-making menus was less among the Korean style restaurants (p<0.001). The possibility of partial replacement of menu books was lower in both Korean and Chinese restaurants (p<0.001). The explanation of the items was lower in the Japanese restaurants (p<0.001). The classification of items into groups was lower in cafeteria (p<0.001). In cases in which there were both seasonal and event menus, the possibility of partial replacements of menu books was higher (p<0.001). Restaurants of which service level was less than ordinary were lower in the differentiation of type sizes (p<0.001), the use of photos (p<0.001), the explanation of menus (p<0.001), the classification of menus by groups (p<0.05), the emphasis of profit-making menus (p<0.001) and the possibility of partial replacement of menu books (p<0.001). If these study findings are applied to the designing of menu books, the role of the menu book as an important tool for marketing could be greatly improved.
This study was carried out to evaluate the effects on elementary school children of Internet-based nutrition education programs. The subjects consisted of 80 boys and girls (book-loaming group : 42, Internet-based teaming group : 38) in the 5th grade of elementary school. The results were as follows : The evaluation of Internet-based education programs by Internet-teaming group showed above average in all domains. As the favorite and wholesome menu chose‘nutrition kingdom’(52.6%) made of animation. The educational effect of this program was evaluated by comparing the methods of the Internet-learning group with those of the book-learning group. For effect-evaluation were measured the degree of nutrition knowledge and diversity score of dietary intake from before and after education. Before undertaking the program, there was no significant difference between the two groups in terms of their nutrition knowledge. However, the nutrition knowledge of the Internet-based teaming group after the program had increased significantly (p < 0.01) compared to the book-learning group. There was no significant difference between the two groups in terms of the diversity of dietary intake before the start of the program, but upon its completion, the Internet-based learning group showed a significant increase compared to the book-loaming group (p < 0.05). This suggests that Internet-based educational programs could be effective in drawing the interest and boosting the concentration levels of schoolchildren. In conclusion, Internet-based nutrition education shows the potential to be an effective alternative education method. (Korean J Nutrition 36(5): 500∼507, 2003)
