  • This paper presents a Bluetooth and pedestrian dead reckoning (PDR)-based indoor fusion localization approach (BtPDR) using smartphones. A Bluetooth and PDR-based indoor fusion localization approach can localize the initial position of a smartphone with the received signal strength (RSS) of Bluetooth. While a smartphone is moving, BtPDR can track its position by fusing the localization results of PDR and Bluetooth RSS. In addition, BtPDR can adaptively modify the parameters of PDR. The contributions of BtPDR include: a Bluetooth RSS-based Probabilistic Voting (BRPV) localization mechanism, a probabilistic voting-based Bluetooth RSS and PDR fusion method, and a heuristic search approach for reducing the complexity of BRPV. The experiment results in a real scene show that the average positioning error is < 2m, which is considered adequate for indoor location-based service applications. Moreover, compared to the traditional PDR method, BtPDR improves the location accuracy by 42.6%, on average. Compared to state-of-the-art Wireless Local Area Network (WLAN) fingerprint + PDR-based fusion indoor localization approaches, BtPDR has better positioning accuracy and does not need the same offline workload as a fingerprint algorithm.

  • The soybean is one of the oldest cultivated crops in the world. Microwave remote sensing is an important tool because it can penetrate into cloud independent of weather and it can acquire day or night time data. Especially a ground-based polarimetric scatterometer has advantages of monitoring crop conditions continuously with full polarization and different frequencies. In this study, soybean growth parameters and soil moisture were estimated using polarimetric discrimination ratio (PDR) by radar scatterometer. A ground-based polarimetric scatterometer operating at multiple frequencies was used to continuously monitor the soybean growth condition and soil moisture change. It was set up to obtain data automatically every 10 minutes. The temporal trend of the PDR for all bands agreed with the soybean growth data such as fresh weight, Leaf Area Index, Vegetation Water Content, plant height; i.e., increased until about DOY 271 and decreased afterward. Soil moisture lowly related with PDR in all bands during whole growth stage. In contrast, PDR is relative correlated with soil moisture during below LAI 2. We also analyzed the relationship between the PDR of each band and growth data. It was found that L-band PDR is the most correlated with fresh weight (r=0.96), LAI (r=0.91), vegetation water content (r=0.94) and soil moisture (r=0.86). In addition, the relationship between C-, X-band PDR and growth data were moderately correlated ($r{\geq}0.83$) with the exception of the soil moisture. Based on the analysis of the relation between the PDR at L, C, X-band and soybean growth parameters, we predicted the growth parameters and soil moisture using L-band PDR. Overall good agreement has been observed between retrieved growth data and observed growth data. Results from this study show that PDR appear effective to estimate soybean growth parameters and soil moisture.

  • The pulse detonation engine (PDE) has recently expected as a new aerospace propulsion system. The PDE system has high thermal efficiency because of its constant-volume combustion and its simple tube structure. We measured thrust of single-tube pulse detonation rocket (PDR) by two methods using the PDR-Engineering Model (full scale model) for ground testing. The first involved measuring the displacement of the PDR-EM by laser displacement meter, and the second involved measuring the time-averaged thrust by combining a load cell and a spring-damper system. From these two measurements, we obtained 130.1 N of time-averaged thrust, which corresponds to 321.2 sec of effective specific impulse (ISP). As well, we measured the heat flux in the wall of PDE tubes. The heat flux was approximately 400 ㎾/$m^2$. We constructed the PDR-Flight Mode] (PDR-FM). In the vertical flight test in a laboratory, the PDR-FM was flying and keeping its altitude almost constant during 0.3 sec.

  • In Integration Approach (IA)-based Pedestrian Dead Reckoning (PDR), it is important to detect the exact zero-velocity of the foot with an Inertial Measurement Unit (IMU). By detecting zero-velocity during the stance phase of the foot touching the ground and executing Zero-velocity UPdaTe (ZUPT) at the exact time, stable navigation information can be provided by the PDR. When the pace is fast, however, it is not easy to accurately detect the zero-velocity because of the small stance phase interval and the large signal variance of the corresponding interval. Incorrect zero-velcity detection greatly causes navigation errors of IA-based PDR. In this paper, we propose a method to detect the zero-velocity stably even at high speed by novel buffering of IMU's output data and signal processing of the buffer. And we design a PDR based on this. By analyzing the performance of the proposed Zero-Velocity Detection (ZVD) algorithm and ZVD-based PDR through experiemnts, we confirm that the proposed method can provide accurate navigation information of pedestrians such as firefighters in the indoor space.

  • In this paper, we propose a solution that enables continuous indoor/outdoor positioning of smartphone users through the integration of Pedestrian Dead Reckoning (PDR) and GPS/WiFi signals. Considering that accurate step detection affects the accuracy of PDR, we propose a Deep Neural Network (DNN)-based technology to distinguish between walking and non-walking signals such as walking in place. Furthermore, in order to integrate PDR with GPS and WiFi signals, a technique is used to select a proper measurement by distinguishing between indoor/outdoor environments based on GPS Dilution of Precision (DOP) information. In addition, we propose a technology to adaptively change the measurement error covariance matrix by detecting measurement outliers that mainly occur in the indoor/outdoor transition section through a residual-based χ2 test. It is verified through experiments on a testbed that these technologies significantly improve the performance of PDR and PDR/GPS/WiFi fingerprinting-based integrated pedestrian navigation.

  • The convergence of metadata service and the PDR with digital storage device enables new services. Among which, providing dynamic commercials make it possible for the commercials stored in the PDR to be a beneficial information source instead of a dull and not-so-interesting time-consuming content. It also improves consumer concentration and makes the commercials more effective. This paper provides list of various functionality provided by dynamic personalized commercials based on metadata and PDR. The proposed information structure supporting these functionality is based on the digital item concept of MPEG-2I. This paper also provides brief description on how the proposed information structure can be used to implement the listed functionality of dynamic persona1ized commercials.

Compression Ratio (CR)을 2,4로 고정하고 Percentage of Root-mean-square difference (PDR)를 분석 한 결과, EMG 잡음의 진폭변 화에는 0.1mV이하의 경우 OCT, Wavelet Lifiting Transform이 낮은 PDR을 보였고, 01.mV이상의 경우 Wavelet based Linear Prediction (WLP)이 낮은 PDR을 보였다.

  • This paper proposes the target path detection algorithm using statistical characteristics of an activated time lag along a moving path of target from a neighboring sensor in PDR(Pulse Doppler Radar) sensor node environment based on USN(Ubiquitous Sensor Network) with a limitation detecting only an existence of moving target. In the proposed algorithm, detection and non-detection time lag obtained from the experimental data are used. The experimental data are through repetitive action of each 500 times about three path scenarios such as passing in between two sensors, moving parallel to two sensors, and turning through two sensors. From this experiments, error detection percentages of three path scenarios are 5.67%, 5.83%, and 7.17%, respectively. They show that the proposed algorithm can exactly detect a target path using the limited PDR sensor nodes.

  • Composite motor cases fabricated by the filament winding method are structurally weak in the dome when they are required to withstand the internal pressure of the combustion gas. In this study, a finite element analysis is conducted to compare the burst pressure of a composite dome according to the variation of the pressure distribution ratio(PDR). The performance of the composite motor case was compared quantitatively by calculating the stress on the inner and outer dome surfaces and metal boss volume. As a result, the critical point of the failure mode was observed at a PDR between 2.5 and 3.0. A design at a PDR of 2.5-3.5 can reduce the weight of metal boss without fluctuation in the burst pressure of the combustion motor case. Moreover as the design reference value changes according to the dome shape and opening size, further analysis and testing are necessary.
