Effects of Product Type and Webtoon Attitude in Webtoon PPL (웹툰 PPL에 대한 제품유형과 웹툰 태도의 효과 연구)

  • The current study examines how product type and attitudes toward the webtoon - a digital comic that originated in Korea - affect consumer responses to webtoon product placement (PPL). Specifically, it examines the following responses: the perception of PPL intrusiveness, attitudes toward the PPL, attitudes toward the brand, word-of-mouth intention, and purchase intention. It further investigates how PPL type interacts with product type and attitudes toward the webtoon on consumer responses to the PPL. The findings from a 2 (product type: functional vs. hedonic) × 2 (attitudes toward the webtoon: negative vs. positive) × 2 (PPL type: creative placement vs. on-set placement) between-subject experimental study suggest the following: consumer responses to PPL in webtoon is more positive when the product is hedonic (vs. functional) and when attitudes toward the webtoon are positive (vs. negative). This study further suggests when subjects felt favorably toward the webtoon, the creative placement produced weaker perceptions of PPL intrusiveness and more favorable attitudes toward the PPL than the on-set placement. On the other hand, when subjects felt negatively toward the webtoon, the on-set placement evoked weaker perceptions of intrusiveness and more favorable attitudes toward the PPL than did the creative placement.

  • This study investigated the differences of message effect by product types and placement types of webtoon PPL(Product Placement). The study have tried to find effective webtoon PPL type and product type to minimized consumers' advertising avoidance. For analysis, two-way between subject design was produced by product types(utilitarian and hedonic product) and webtoon PPL placdement types(image, insert, and combination type). In results, there was a difference by PPL placement types for brand attitude. In special, the insert type had highly positive brad attitude. For webtoon contents, highly positive attitude was discovered in the cases of the hedonic product and the insert type of webtoon PPL.

  • This study compares and reviews PPL in domestic and foreign music videos with reference to possibility of connecting K-POP music videos and PPL in industrial perspective and establishes a successful PPL strategy for K-POP. For this, their success factors are drawn through content analysis method for PPL examples in K-POP and foreign(British-American) music videos. The study analyzes PPL strategies in K-POP and foreign music videos by content analysis of PPL exposure frequency and time, PPL placement type, PPL products group type, advertisers, etc. According to the study, PPL product lines as well as fashions need to be diversified in K-POP music videos. The study also shows that it needs to apply the PPL strategy used in foreign music videos which are focused on exposure time rather than exposure frequency. In addition, it turned out to be important to establish more bold PPL placement exposure strategy in K-POP music videos. Therefore, the study is to offer theoretical and political implications required for successful PPL strategy in K-POP in the future.

  • This study is to examine relationship between immersiveness aspect and the recognition of garners who are exposed to PPL (Product Placement Advertisement) in online game. The frequency of exposure, the placement type of PPL, the perception under the threshold of consciousness and the interest at the product and knowledge about PPL have been widely known as the factors of effectiveness in PPL advertising. In this study, 'immersiveness' is newly introduced to investigate the effectiveness of PPL advertising due to the unique characteristics of game which easily leads to immersion. Control group is exposed to movie clip and experimental group to lacing online game. In conclusion, the deep immersion has reduced the perception level of user on PPL except the variable of PPL placement. This study suggests that how to design the PPL placement in game for enhancing marketing effect is all the more vital, in spite of the result that the player in high immersion cannot distinguish different images.

The Influence of Display Type of PPL and Program Context on Advertising Attitude : Moderating Role of Previous Intrusiveness Perception (PPL 광고의 배치유형과 프로그램 상황이 광고태도에 미치는 영향: 사전 침입성 지각의 조절효과)

  • The objectives of this study are to examine the impact of display type and program condition on advertising attitude, and also to analyze the moderating effect of previous intrusiveness perception in such process. The results of empirical analysis are as follows. First, display type had no significant influence on advertising attitude. Second, the interaction effect of display type and program situation on advertising attitude was significant. Third, the interaction effect of display type and previous intrusiveness perception on advertising attitude was not significant. Fourth, the interaction effect of program situation and previous intrusiveness perception on advertising attitude was significant. Fifth, the interaction effect of display type, program situation, and previous intrusiveness perception on advertising attitude was not significant.

The PPL Communication Effects of Fashion Brands in the Korean Movie - Focus on Setting Types and Exposure Times - (국내 영화 속 패션 제품의 PPL 커뮤니케이션 효과 - 배치 유형과 노출 시간을 중심으로 -)

  • This study measured the communication effect on the setting types and the exposure times to perform the effective PPL strategies. By the setting types(on-set and creative) and exposure times(short and long), 308 female older than 20 were divided into 4 experimental groups. Each groups were exposed to the edited movies and required to answer the questionaire. The data were analysed by SPSS 12.0 using Chi-Square, One-Way ANOVA and Duncan test. The results are as follows. First, in cognitive dimension, the on-set type and long exposure group showed the higher recognition and recall. Second, in emotional dimension, the signigicant difference was found in one brand(Kappa) of two which were used in the experiment. In this case, the on-set type and long exposure group showed the positive attitude toward the brand. Third, in behavioral dimension, there were no difference among the groups. The implications based on this results are as follows. First, when implementing of PPL the fashion brands in movies, the on-set type and long exposure would be the most effective method. Second, implementing IMC(Integrated Marketing Communication) linked to the PPL strategy can be more effective. In contrast to the other product categories, it is hard to recognize the brand of fashion goods if the logo or the brand name is not exposed directly. Therefore Combining other communication strategies such as press release simultaneously will birng the more effective result of PPL in the movie.

  • The foodservice industry is applying new marketing strategies, and advertisements are the best way to convey their distinctive brand images. The foodservice companies have been choosing a type of advertising called Product Placement(PPL) because it is unconsciously shown more often than other types of advertisements while customers are watching a movie or TV drama. Therefore, the aims of this research were to investigate the influence of the customers' perception of PPL inserted into TV dramas on brand image and purchasing intention. Additionally, present study performed to identify the differences between Korean and Chinese customers. For the survey, the study used both offline and online sampling methods, and the analyzed data was from 150 Korean and 150 Chinese respondents. As results, the more respondents were positive and familiar about PPL, the higher the brand image and purchasing intention. Chinese consumers had positive perception of PPL, which positively influenced the brand image and purchasing intention while Korean consumers' ethical awareness about PPL had a negative influence. Therefore, the Korean foodservice industry needs to differentiate the strategies for the PPL marketing between the Korean and Chinese market.

  • Is this paper, We propose to examined the relationship between advertising attributes and brand preference, consumer psychological repulsion, and consumer happiness. Due to the infinite competition between the companies, they are experiencing significant difficulties in operation. In this situation, effective advertising is obviously a very important means to overcome the difficulties of operation. Therefore, in order to maximize the advertising effect, sufficient awareness of the advertisement property and the production and exposure of the advertisement based on it can be very important. As such, the purpose of this study is to verify the effect of indirect advertising appearing on entertainment programs on consumers' preference for brands and their psychological resistance, and to verify the effect of consumers' preference for brands and psychological backlash on consumer happiness. In addition, the exposure pattern of indirect advertisement is intended to verify whether there is a control effect between the nature of the advertisement and the brand preference and psychological backlash. A total of 209 questionnaires were distributed to consumers who viewed program in order to achieve the purpose of this study. For empirical analysis, exploratory factor analysis, confirmatory factor analysis, frequency analysis, reliability analysis, structural equation model, and multimodal simultaneous comparison analysis were performed using SPSS V. 22.0 and AMOS V. 22.0. The results of the empirical analysis of this study are as follows. First, advertising attributes have a significant effect on brand preference. Second, the hypothesis that advertising attributes have a significant effect on psychological repulsiveness of consumers is partially adopted. Third, brand preference and psychological repulsion have a significant effect on consumer happiness. Fourth, we confirmed the moderating effect of PPL expression form in ad property, brand preference, and psychological repulsion. Based on these findings, we presented the implications, limitations and future research directions of the study.

  • 간접광고의 한형태인 영화나 드라마 속에 제품배치(PPL)는 온셋 배치와 크리에이티브 배치로 분류할 수 있다. 온셋 배치(on-set placement)는 맥락효과 속에 전경(foreground)에 해당되며, 크리에이티브 배치(creative placement)는 배경에 해당되기 때문에 소비자의 정보처리에 의한 기억효과가 다르게 나타난다. 온셋배치의 경우 자극의 현저성으로 인하여 정교화 가능성 모델이론의 설득의 중심경로를 통한 정보처리효과가 나타나기 때문에 명시적 학습을 하게 된다. 반면에 드라마 배경에 해당하는 PPL의 크리에이티브 배치는 정교화의 수단이 낮아서 배경의 여러 단서들과 함께 설득의 주변경로를 통한 정보처리를 할 것이다. 따라서 암묵적 학습을 할 가능성이 높게 나타나게 된다. 이러한 제품배치의 형태에 따른 학습기억의 형태는 조절변수인 관여도에 따라 다르게 나타날 것이다. 제품관여도가 높은 경우에는 크리에이티브 배치를 하여도 명시적 학습을 할 가능성이 많은 반면 제품관여도가 낮은 경우 크리에이티브 배치를 하게 되면, 암묵적 학습효과가 미약하거나 일어나지 않을 가능성이 많다. 그러므로 제품관여도가 낮은 상품의 경우에는 제품배치시 가능한한 크리에이티브 배치피하는 것이 유리 할 것이다.
