  • Broadband code division multiple access(B-CDMA)previously proposed for personal communication services(PCS) is not suitable for high-speed data services with large variations in speed, because it is designed only for low-speed voice calls with small variations in speed. Meanwhile, hybrid intra-cell TDMA/inter-cell CDMA(Hybrid TDMA/CDMA) recently proposed could accomodate high-speed services easily because of its internal use of the TDMA scheme, but there would be much inefficiency in treating variable bit rate services due to the intrinsic properties of TDMA transmission scheme, In this paper, a media access control(MAC) protocol, called Resevation TDMA/CDMA, which uses a reservation scheme similar to the one in the packet reservation multiple access(PRMA) protocol to compensate for these shortcomings is proposed. In addition, the performance of this protocol is analyzed and compared with conventional protocols by computer simulation. According to the simulation results, it has been shown that the proposed Reservation TDMA/CDMA scheme could support various transmission rates of user data traffics easily, and it could utilize the variations of the treansmission rates in each active call more efficiently.

  • Recently, the demand of mobile communication is rapidly increasing. Also, not only the voice service but also the nonvoice services such as data, FAX, and image service are required. Therefore, in this paper, the voice/data intergraed service methods that will be utilized as a basic core technology of the PCS systems are proposed and their performances are analyzed and compared by computer simulation. According to the simulation results, it could be seen that the performance of voice/data integrated PR-CDMA method is better than that of voice/data integrated broadband CDMA method using a dedicated terminal or a voice/data integrated terminal. The reason is that the voice/data integrated PR-CDMA method can overcome the weak points of CDMA protocol, such as a limitation of the fixed CDMA logical channel number and a falling-off in channel utilization, by using PRMA protocol as a multiple access method that the terminals to which a CDMA logical channel is assigned compete.

  • This paper proposes reservation-based multiple access with variable frame length (RMAV) which is a new multiple access scheme for indoor and outdoor wireless data communications. RMAV is based on the slot reservation scheme and adopts a frame structure with variable frame length. The frame length increases as the number of active terminals and/or the system load increases. As a result, RMAV is adapted to the changes in the traffic pattern, and it offers short delay in light load conditions and high throughput in heavy load conditions. The performance of RMAV is evaluated by simulations. In addition, it is compared with the performance of PRMA(packet reservation multiple access).

  • In this study was modify the PRMA for supporting various types of traffic classes such as CBR, VBR, ABR and UBR. For uplink, we use reservation slots and so the performance will not degrade in case of over load conditions. For downlink broadcasting slots for informing the status of slot reservations are used so the high priority priority terminal can preempt. And we use almost same size buffer as the frame size. So we can dynamically deal with, the traffic changes of VBR terminals. It makes easy for the terminals to reserve supplementary slots. Each terminal is reallocated by the priority of traffic classes and so we can easily select the dropping packets in case of overload conditions. As a result, using our scheme, we can get high channel efficiency and get low packet dropping ratio and delay.

  • The next generation of wireless communication seems to be multimedia communications based on ATM and requires the efficient MAC(Medium Access Control) protocol to support multimedia traffic with the various characteristics of QoS(Quality of Service). A Proposed D-PRMA++ MAC protocol is operated dynamically by the retransmission probability and the number of reservation channel on the side of MS(Mobile Station) Also, On the side of BS(Base Station) it analyzes the parameters receive d from all MS and allocates the slots by priority in order to guarantee QoS.

  • The voice traffic is one of the most important real-time objects in WATM(Wireless Asynchronous Transfer Mode) networks. In this paper, we propose a new MAC(Medium Access'Control) protocol for the efficienttransmission of voice traffic over WATM networks in the multimedia environment and compare the performanceto existing similar protocols. The new protocol separates the reservation slot period for voice and that for data toguarantee some level of QoS(Quality of Service) in voice traffic. This is denoted by a slot assignment functiondepending on the frame size. According to the characteristics of voice traffic which is repeatedly in silent states, the protocol allocates voice reservation request slots dynamically with respect to the number of silent(off state)voice sources and also sends the first block of talkspurt restarted after silent period with a reservation requestslot to reduce the access delay. The simulation results show that the proposed protocol has better performance than Slotted Aloha in bandwidthefficiency, and can serve a certain level of QoS by the given slot assignment function even when the number ofvoice terminals varies dynamically. This means we can observe that the new MAC protocol is much better thanthe NC-PRMA(None Collision-Packet Reservation Multiple Access) protocol.

  • This paper proposes a fuzzy-based random access controller with a superimposed frame structure (F$^2$RAC) fur voice/data-integrated wireless networks. F$^2$RAC adopts mini-slot technique for reducing contention cost, and these mini-slots of which number may dynamically vary from one frame to the next as a function of the traffic load are further partitioned into two regions for access requests coming from voice and data traffic with their respective QoS requirements. And F$^2$RAC is designed to properly determine the access regions and permission probabilities for enhancing the data packet delay while ensuring the voice packet dropping probability constraint. It mainly consists of the estimator with Pseudo-Bayesian algorithm and fuzzy logic controller with Sugeno-type of fuzzy rules. Simulation results prove that F$^2$RAC can guarantee QoS requirement of voice and provide the highest throughput efficiency and the smallest data packet delay amongst the different alternatives including PRMA[1], IPRMA[2], and SIR[3].

  • A medium access control protocol is proposed for integrated voice and data services in the packet CDMA network with a small coverage. Uplink channels are composed of time slots and multiple spreading codes for each slot. This protocol gives higher access priority to the delay-sensitive voice traffic than to the data traffic. During a talkspurt, voice terminals reserve a spreading code to transmit multiple voice packets. On the other hand, whenever generating a data packet, data terminals transmit a packet based on the status Information of spreading codes in the current slot, which is received from base station. In this protocol, voice packet does not come into collision with data packet. Therefore, this protocol can increase the maximum number of voice terminals.
