Panel cutting method: new approach to generate panels on a hull in Rankine source potential approximation

  • In the present study, a new hull panel generation algorithm, namely panel cutting method, was developed to predict flow phenomena around a ship using the Rankine source potential based panel method, where the iterative method was used to satisfy the nonlinear free surface condition and the trim and sinkage of the ship was taken into account. Numerical computations were performed to investigate the validity of the proposed hull panel generation algorithm for Series 60 ($C_B$=0.60) hull and KRISO container ship (KCS), a container ship designed by Maritime and Ocean Engineering Research Institute (MOERI). The computational results were validated by comparing with the existing experimental data.

An improved Rankine source panel method for three dimensional water wave problems

  • An improved three dimensional Rankine source method is developed to solve numerically water wave problems in time domain. The free surface and body surface are both represented by continuous panels rather than a discretization by isolated points. The integral of Rankine source 1/r on free surface panel is calculated analytically instead of numerical approximation. Due to the exact algorithm of Rankine source integral applied on the free surface and body surface, a space increment free surface source distribution method is developed and much smaller amount of source panels are required to cover the fluid domain surface than other numerical approximation methods. The proposed method shows a higher accuracy and efficiency compared to other numerical methods for various water wave problems.

Loose Coupling Approach of CFD with a Free-Wake Panel Method for Rotorcraft Applications

  • As a first step toward a complete CFD-CSD coupling for helicopter rotor load analysis, the present study attempts to loosely couple a CFD code with a source-double panel method. The far-field wake effects were calculated by a time-marching free vortex wake method and were implemented into the CFD module via field velocity approach. Unlike the lifting line method, the air loads correction process is not trivial for the source-doublet panel method. The air loads correction process between the source-doublet method and CFD is newly suggested in this work and the computation results are validated against available data for well-known hovering flight conditions.

A New Sustain Driving Method for AC PDP : Charge-Controlled Driving Method

  • A new sustain driving method for the AC PDP is presented. In this driving method, the voltage source is connected to a storage capacitor, this storage capacitor charges an intermediate capacitor through LC resonance, and the panel is charged from the intermediate capacitor indirectly. In this way, the current flowing into the AC PDP when the sustain discharge occurs is reduced because the current is indirectly supplied from a capacitor, a limited source of charge. Thus, the input power to the output luminance efficiency is improved. Since the voltage supplied to the storage capacitor is doubled through LC resonance, this method call drive an AC PDP with a voltage source of about half of the voltage necessary in the conventional driving methods. The experiments showed that this charge-controlled driving method could drive ail AC PDP with a voltage source of as low as 107V. Using a panel of the conventional structure, luminous efficiency of 1.28 lm/W was achieved.

Current-Controlled Driving Method for AC PDP and Experimental Characterization

  • A new Current-Controlled Driving Method that can drive AC PDPs with low voltage and high luminous efficiency for the sustaining period is presented. In this driving method, the voltage source is connected to a storage capacitor and the stored voltage is delivered to the panel through LC resonance. Thus, this driving method can drive the panel with a voltage source as low as about half of the voltage necessary in the conventional driving methods. The discharge current flowing into the AC PDP is limited in this method. Thus, the power consumption for the discharge is reduced and the discharge input power to output luminance efficiency is improved. Experimental results using this driving method showed that we could drive an AC PDP with a voltage source as low as 146V and that high luminous efficiency of 1.33 1m/W can be achieved.

  • 패널법(panel method)을 이용하여 포텐셜 유동조건에 있는 임의의 3차원 융합익기(Blended-Wing Body) 형상에 대해 정상/비정상 공력해석을 수행하였다. 본 연구 방법은 구간일정강도(piecewise constant strength) 용출(source) 및 중첩(doublet) 특이점(singularity)을 사용하고 Dirichlet 경계조건에 기초한 포텐셜 기저(potential based) 패널법과 물체고정좌표계의 각 방향에 대해 시간전진법(time-stepping method)을 결합한 방법이다. 본 프로그램은 임의의 3차원 BWB 형상 항공기의 공력해석을 빠르고 정확하게 수행할 수 있으며 BWB 항공기의 안정성을 위한 다양한 공력계수를 제공할 수 있다. 본 프로그램으로 3차원 정상/비정상 임의의 3차원 형상에 대하여 공력특성을 예측할 수 있어 BWB 항공기 설계단계, 비행 시뮬레이션과 같이 반복적 빠른 계산을 요구하는 실질적 응용에 크게 기여할 것이다.

고차 판요소법을 이용한 몰수체의 조파저항 계산 (Calculation of Wave Resistance for a Submerged Body by a Higher Order Panel Method)

  • 본 논문에서는 물체표면을 겹 3차 B-Spline 방법에 의하여 표현하고, 특이점세기를 겹선형으로 근사하는 고차판요소법을 이용하여 몰수체에 대한 조파저항을 계산하였다. 여기서 Neumann-kelvin 문제는 쏘오스분포법과 법선다이폴분포법에 의하여 해석되었다. 고차 판요소법에 의하여 계산된 결과는 Hess & Smith가 사용한 최저차 판요소법 결과와 비교하였으며, 고차 판요소법의 수렴도는 보통 판요소법보다 훨씬 좋은 것으로 나타났다. 그러나, 고차 판요소법에 의하여 계산된 조파저항도 최저차 판요소법에 의한 것과 마찬가지로 낮은 Froude 수에서는 해석해와의 차이를 보이고 있다.

  • The aerodynamic characteristics of a T-50 aircraft configuration are investigated by a subsonic panel method. Panel methods are best applicable to the lifting surfaces such as wings and airfoils. Source and doublets are used in the present code as a basic singularities of the panel technique. The panel method is first assessed by applying it to several benchmark problems for which other solutions and experimental data are available, such as a swept wing and wing body configuration. The prediction results are compared with experimental data and show good agreement in all cases considered. Finally, the method is applied to a T-50 aircraft configuration and excellent agreement with flight test data in lift coefficients is found.

  • 본 논문에서는 a-Si(amorphous-Silicon) TFT(Thin Film Transistor) LCD (Liquid Crystal Display)상에서 다중 비디오 신호원을 디스플레이 할 수 있는 $\Delta$-shaped 보간 방식올 제안하였다. 제안한 방식은 단순한 회로만으로 구현이 가능하므로 펼드 메모리와 같은 비용의 증가 없이도 평판 디스플레이(FPD : Flat Panel D Display) 시스템에 적용될 수 있다. 제안한 방식과 기존의 방식을 비교하기 위하여 PSNR(Peak Signal Noise Ratio)을 도입하였으며, 컴퓨터 시율레이션상의 처리결과를 에지 특성에 초점을 두어 평가하였다. 컴퓨터 시율레이션을 통해 에지와 이미지의 국부특정의 관점에서 볼 때, 제안한 방식이 기존의 방식보다 우수함을 확인하였다. 마지막으로 제안한 방식의 특성과 트레이드 오프(trade-off)에 대하여 논하였다.

고속으로 입수하는 물체에 대한 충격량 및 입수 거동 해석 (Numerical Analysis of Impact Forces and Entry Behaviors of the High Speed Water Entry Bodies)

  • The numerical methodology for computing tile impact forces and water entry behaviors of high speed water entry bodies was been developed. Since the present method assumed the impact occurs within a very short time interval. the viscous effects do not have enough time to play a significant role in the impact forces, that is, the flow around a water-entry object was assumed as an incompressible potential flow and is solved by the source panel method. The elements fully submerged into the water are routinely treated, but the elements intersected by the effective planar free surface are redefined and reorganized to be amenable to the source panel method. To validate the present code, it was applied to disk, cone and ogive model and compared with experimental data. Good agreement was obtained. The water entry behavior such as the bouncing phenomena from the free surface was also simulated using the impact forces and two degree of freedom dynamic equation. Physically acceptable results were obtained.
