Recently, biometric systems are of interest for the reliable security system. Iris recognition technology is one of the biometric system with the highest reliability. Various iris recognition methods have been proposed for automatic personal identification and verification. These methods require accurate iris segmentation for successful processing because the iris is a small part of an acquired image. The iris boundaries have been parametrically modeled and subsequently detected by circles or parabolic arcs. Since the iris boundaries have a wide range of edge contrast and irregular border shapes, the assumption that they can be fit to circles or parabolic arcs is not always valid. In some cases, the shape of a dilated pupil is slightly different from a constricted one. This is especially true when the pupil has an irregular shape. This is why this research is important. This paper addresses how to accurately detect iris boundaries for improved iris recognition, which is robust to noises.
It is believed that the anomalies or diseases of human organs are identified by the analysis of the patterns. This paper proposes a new classification technique for the identification of cancer disease using the proteome patterns obtained from two-dimensional polyacrylamide gel electrophoresis(2-D PAGE). In the new classification method, three different classification methods such as support vector machine(SVM), multi-layer perceptron(MLP) and k-nearest neighbor(k-NN) are extended by multi-boosting method in an array of subclassifiers and the results of each subclassifier are merged by ensemble method. Genetic algorithm was applied to obtain optimal feature set in each subclassifier. We applied our method to empirical data set from cancer research and the method showed the better accuracy and more stable performance than single classifier.

In this paper, we implement a digital holographic security card system that combines digital holographic memory using random phase encoded reference beams with electrical biometrics. Digitally encoded data including a document, a picture of face, and a fingerprint are recorded by multiplexing of holographic memory. A random phase mask encoding reference beams are used as a decoded key to protect illegal counterfeit. As a result, we can achieve a raw BER of 3.6${\times}$10-4 and shift selectivity of 4${\mu}{\textrm}{m}$ using the 2D random phase mask. Also, we develop a recording pattern and image processing which are suitable for a low cost reader without a position sensing photo-detector for real time data extraction and remove danger of fraud from unauthorized person by comparing the reconstructed holographic data with the live fingerprint data.

A study on Ontology-based indoor positioning techniques using BLE Beacon. Recently BLE beacon has been widely used as a technique for measuring the indoor location. But it requires a filtering technique for the measurement of the correct position, and uses the most fixed beacon. It is not accurate that calculates the position information through the identification of the beacon signal. Therefore, filtering is important. So it takes a lot of time, position measurement and filtering. Thus, we is to measure the exact position at the indoor using a mobile beacon. The measured beacon signal is composed of an ontology for reuse in the same pattern. RSSI is measured the receiver is the distance of the beacon. And this value configure the location ontology to be normalized by the relationship analysis between the values. The ontology is a method for calculating the position information of the moving beacon. It may be detected fast and accurate indoor position information.
Methylprednisolone (MPD) is a synthetic glucocorticoid drug used in treatment of many neurological diseases and neurotraumas, including spinal cord injuries. Little is known of the mechanism of MPD in neuronal cells, particularly the genetic expression aspect. DD-PCR was used in identification of genes expressed during MPD treatment of PC12 cells. We have isolated 3 predicted up- or down-regulated genes, which are differentially expressed in neurons by MPD. One of these genes, USP16 (ubiquitin specific protease 16), is the deubiquitinating enzyme that is up-regulated by MPD in neurons. In order to observe the effect of MPD on USP16 gene expression, PC12 cells were treated under several experimental conditions, including endoplasmic reticulum stress drugs. We have isolated the total RNAs in PC12 cells and detected USP16 and ER related genes by RT-PCR. Because its expression pattern is similar to expression of ER chaperons, USP16 gene expression is strongly associated with unfolded protein response. A meaningful negative effect on each tissue treated by methylprednisolone is not shown in vivo. USP16 gene expression is suppressed by LY294002 (phosphatidylinositol 3-kinase inhibitor), which suggests that USP16 gene expression is regulated by the phosphatidylinositol 3-kinase pathway.
The purpose of this study is to understand the ground change of large scale mountainous region and to estimate the active weak zone using geophysical exploration (electrical resistivity and refraction seismic explorations) in large scale deep landslide area located in Wanjugun, Jeollabukdo. We also analyzed the characteristics of deep landslides occurred in metamorphic rocks region and confirmed the approximate scale. As a result of comparative analysis of N-value by standard penetration test (SPT), low resistivity anomaly, and tension crack identified from field investigation, a discontinuity in soil layer was estimated at 10 ~ 15 m below the surface. Based on this results, the distribution pattern of active weak zone was confirmed between the discontinuity in soil layer and estimation line of bedrock.
Examined were the vegetative and reproductive characters such as external morphology, anatomy (leaf petiole, blade and stem), pollen and nutlet for the taxonomic revision of Elsholtzia in Korea. The inflorescence of all studied taxa of Elsholtzia in Korea is secund and 0.5-10 cm long. Leaves are ovate or nearly and $0.2-10{\times}0.2-6.0cm$. The shapes of inflorescence and leaves are very useful taxonomic characters. The stomata types are anomocytic and diacytic. The morphology of nutlet is ovoid and pitted in surface pattern of exocarp. All studied taxa are myxocarpy. The pollen grains are of medium size and subprolate in shape, and have typical bi-reticulate exine surface. Four species are recognized for Korean Elsholtzia by the identification key and descriptions in this study.
The face recognition has been used in a variety fields, such as identification and security. The procedure of the face recognition is as follows; extracting face features of face images, learning the extracted face features, and selecting some features among all extracted face features. The selected features have discrimination and are used for face recognition. However, there are numerous face features extracted from face images. If a face recognition system uses all extracted features, a high computing time is required for learning face features and the efficiency of computing resources decreases. To solve this problem, many researchers have proposed various Boosting methods, which improve the performance of learning algorithms. Mutual-Boost is the typical Boosting method and efficiently selects face features by using mutual information between two features. In this paper, we propose a GroupMutual-Boost method for improving Mutual-Boost. Our proposed method can shorten the time required for learning and recognizing face features and use computing resources more effectively since the method does not learn individual features but a feature group.

The task of author name disambiguation involves identifying an author with different names or different authors with the same name. The author name disambiguation is important for correctly assessing authors' research achievements and finding experts in given areas as well as for the effective operation of scholarly information services such as citation indexes. In the study, we performed error correction and normalization of data and applied rules-based author name disambiguation to compare with baseline machine learning disambiguation in order to see if human intervention could improve the machine learning performance. The improvement of over 0.1 in F-measure by the corrected and normalized email-based author name disambiguation over machine learning demonstrates the potential of human pattern identification and inference, which enabled data correction and normalization process as well as the formation of the rule-based diambiguation, to complement the machine learning's weaknesses to improve the author name disambiguation results.

This paper describes an idea for determining self-localization using visual landmark. The critical geometric dimensions of a pentagon are used here to locate the relative position of the mobile robot with respect to the pattern. This method has the advantages of simplicity and flexibility. This pentagon is also provided nth a unique identification, using invariant features and colors that enable the system to find the absolute location of the patterns. This algorithm determines both the correspondence between observed landmarks and a stored sequence, computes the absolute location of the observer using those correspondences, and calculates relative position from a pentagon using its (ive vortices. The algorithm has been implemented and tested. In several trials it computes location accurate to within 5 centimeters in less than 0.3 second.
