Electrical properties of a resistive SFCL with shunt resistor (분로저항을 가진 저항형 초전도 한류기의 전기적 특성)

  • We fabricated a resistive SFCL having a shunt resistor parallel to it in order to bifurcate the transient current at faults. The SFCL consists of a YBCO film coated with an Au layer (10 ${\omega}$ at room temperature), which is to disperse the heat generated at hot spots in the YBCO film, and the 5 ${\omega}$ shunt resistor. The minimum quench current of the SFCL was found to be 12.2 A$_{peak}$. This SFCL successfully controlled the fault current below 23 A$_{peak}$ which is otherwise to increase up to 113 A$_{peak}$. Bifurcation of the current resulted in the temperature rise of the YBCO/Au film 3 times slower than without the shunt, protecting the SFCL at high currents.

  • KPX(Korea Power Exchange) predicts that summer peak load will be 70,700MW and system overload will be 150% from contingency analysis. This paper presents a method to operate power system at 2010 summer peak. about equipment variation, power system variation, analysis results of voltage stability, and the method to relief overload by comparing 2009 and 2010. Especially, transmission constraints to prevent global contingency in Korea power system and the role of SPS(Special Protection System) to prevent voltage collapse when fault occurs are introduced.

  • It is very important thing to efficiently utilize the solar power. The conventional solar power system has no energy storage device. So the conventional system cannot cut the peak load. In this paper, the solar power system with the energy storage device and the operation algorithm of peak cut function was proposed to cut the peak load. The algorithm principle is proposed based on the insolation curve and load curve. The simulation and experiment was performed to demonstrate the validity of the peak cut algorithm.

  • A high peak power demand at substations will result under Moving Block Signalling (MBS) when a dense queue of trains begins to start from a complete stop at the same time in an electrified railway system. This may cause the power supply interruption and in turn affect the train service substantially. In a recent study, measures of Starting Time Delay (STD) and Acceleration Rate Limit (ARL) are the possible approaches to reduce the peak power demand on the supply system under MBS.   • This paper gives the support method of DSM program(power load leveling for heating and cooling facilities on building). As the national power peak load increases recently, the peak load reduction is needed. So we studied about remote controlling of power load from heating/cooling facilities on building during peak times. To adopt new DSM program, it is very important to design DSM customer supporting system. So in this paper, we dealt with the result of customer survey, and the DSM potential regarding heating/cooling facilities on building. In conclusion, the peak reduction program of heating/cooling facilities is very important and the incentive of customer should be consist of two incentive types as an installation and power reduction.

  • The utility grid has a supply of electric energy which is larger than the usually required power consumption under peak load condition. So, power distribution is required to have a heavy capacity because of peak-load period. To solve the problem, this paper proposes a 10kW rapid charger system which has a function of load compensation at the peak-load condition. The proposed system supplies power demanded by peak-load through transferring energy in the battery of electric vehicle to the grid. V2G operation is verified through simulation performed by 10kW rapid-charger.

  • This paper presents an approximate model for computing the peak demand power in a metro railway system. The peak demand of substations can be calculated using the current vector iteration method. But the existing method requires many repeated calculations to determine the peak demand power, which makes it difficult to apply to the real-time peak power control problem. In this paper, we assume that none of the conditions vary except source impedance and make an approximate model for rapid calculation based on changes in the impedance of the power substation. The proposed model result is approximately the same as the existing model, which is demonstrated through simulation.

  • The paper proposed a sizing method of an energy storage system(ESS) for peak shaving of high-speed railway substations based on load profile patterns of substations. A lithium based battery ESS was selected since it can produce high-power at high speed that peak shaving requires, and also takes up a relatively smaller space for installation. Adequate size of the ESS, minimum capacity which can technically meet a peak shaving target, was determined by collectively considering load patterns of a target substation, characteristics of the ESS to be installed, and optimal scheduling of the ESS. In case study, a local substation was considered to demonstrate the proposed sizing method. Also economic analysis with the determined size of ESS was performed to calculate electricity cost savings of the peak shaving ESS, and to offer pay-back period and return on investment.

A Study on Peak Load Prediction Using TCN Deep Learning Model (TCN 딥러닝 모델을 이용한 최대전력 예측에 관한 연구)

  • It is necessary to predict peak load accurately in order to supply electric power and operate the power system stably. Especially, it is more important to predict peak load accurately in winter and summer because peak load is higher than other seasons. If peak load is predicted to be higher than actual peak load, the start-up costs of power plants would increase. It causes economic loss to the company. On the other hand, if the peak load is predicted to be lower than the actual peak load, blackout may occur due to a lack of power plants capable of generating electricity. Economic losses and blackouts can be prevented by minimizing the prediction error of the peak load. In this paper, the latest deep learning model such as TCN is used to minimize the prediction error of peak load. Even if the same deep learning model is used, there is a difference in performance depending on the hyper-parameters. So, I propose methods for optimizing hyper-parameters of TCN for predicting the peak load. Data from 2006 to 2021 were input into the model and trained, and prediction error was tested using data in 2022. It was confirmed that the performance of the deep learning model optimized by the methods proposed in this study is superior to other deep learning models.

  • A very simple and effective peak power reduction scheme for a downlink OFDM-CDMA system is proposed using the relationship between peak-to-average power ratio (PAPR) and out-of-phase autocorrelation. Since power spectrum and autocorrelation function are Fourier transform pair, the PAPR property of the sequences can be estimated by the out-of-phase autocorrelation function of the spreading sequences. Thus, by scrambling the spread data in the frequency domain, we can reduce the sidelobe energy of autocorrelation, and at last, suppress PAPR in the proposed OFDM-CDMA system.
