This study is suggested a new dielectric tracer test method to understand geological structure of porous media and groundwater flow to use the dielectric constant which is one of electrical special quality of various geological materials. To measure their parameters, tracer material is made an ethanol mixing liquid(EML) having a same specific gravity of water. Also, soil materials are prepared a dielectric tracer test using the FDR system that could measure dielectric constant for saturated standard sand and river sand layers which have different initial porosity. To compare with their results, we discussed with the concentration variation of saline water having a saline concentration $3\%$ which is general tracer material by using the electro multi-meter system in the laboratory or field test. In two tracer experiment results, EML tracer test could confirm definitely EML concentration variation from each saturated soil layer as standard and river sands. However, tracer test of saline water $3\%$ concentration could not confirm permeating movement of water by degree of salinity change because these are settled at lower part column in a whole column area continuously. These causes are that specific gravity of saline water is heavier than water. That is, it could know that deposition of saline water is composed of lower part of soil column continuously independently of the direction of water into saturated soil material.

In this paper, Ca, Sn substitute YIC(Yttrium Iron Garnet) ceramics were fabricated with Al substitutions in Fe sites. The strip-line circulator was designed and the properties of fabricated ciculator were measured. When the electric, magnetic and microwave properties were measured in Ca, Sn substituted YIG with Al subsititions, the relative permittivity and perfmeability in microwave frequencies were 15.623 and 0.972, repectively. For $Y_{2.4}Ca_{0.3}Sn_{0.3}Fe_{5-x}Al_xO_{12}$ garnet ceramics sintered at $1450^{\circ}C$, the ferrimagnetic resonance line width $\Delta{H}$) of 42 Oe and the saturation magnetization of 487 G were measured at 10 GHz. The strip-line circulator was simulated with 3-D FEM(Finite Element Method) software and designed to have insertion loss of 0.8dB, return loss of 25dB, isolation of 35dB at the center frequency of 1.9GHz. The fabricated strition loss of 0.8B, reture loss of 25dB, isolation of 35dB at the center frequency of 1.9GHz. The fabricated strip-line junction circulator using above YIG ceramics had insertion loss of 0.869dB, return loss of 26.955dB, isolation of 44.409dB at the center frequency of 1.9GHz.
Herein, we report on the co-firing of a low-K wiring substrate and a middle-K functional substrate in LTCC. Firstly, we researched the sintering behavior and dielectric properties of the low-k wiring substrate comprised by alumina and glass frit with ${\varepsilon}_r$, of $\sim7$ and the middle-k functional substrate comprised by $Ba_{5}Nb_{4}O_{15}$ and glass frit with ${\varepsilon}_r$, of $20\sim30$. The warpage and delamination between the hetero layers of the low-K and the middle-K composition were also studied. In particular, physical matching of the hetero layers could be possible by adjusting of the sintering properties of the composition. We observed that an introduction of the glass frit to the low- and middle-K substrate gives rise to a minimization of an effect given by separation of the hetero layers, and modification of the fraction of the glass frit accompanied by a variation of the composition could control the sintering behavior and its beginning temperature. In the case of co-firing of the L03 as the low-K wiring substrate composition and the M03 as the middle-K functional substrate composition at $875^{\circ}C$, we could fabricate a desirable structure of hetero layers without any kinds of structural defects such as separation, warpage, delamination, pore trap, etc. We suppose that the co-firing techniques described in this study would provide a helpful method to fabricate a LTCC multi-functional for the next generation.

Background: TlBr is of considerable technological importance for radiation detection applications where detecting high-energy photons such as X-rays and ${\gamma}$-rays are of prime importance. However, there were few reports on investigating optical properties of TlBr itself for deeper understandings of this material and for making better radiation detection devices. Thus, in this paper, we report on the optical characterizations of TlBr single crystals. Spectroscopic ellipsometry (SE) and photoluminescence (PL) measurements at RT were performed for this work. Materials and Methods: A 2-inch TlBr single crystalline ingot was grown by using the vertical Bridgman furnace. SE measurements were performed at RT within the photon energy range from 1.1 to 6.5 eV. PL measurements were performed at RT by using a home-made PL system equipped with a 266 nm-laser and a spectrometer. Results and Discussion: Dielectric responses from SE analysis were shown to be slightly different among the different samples possibly due to the different structural/optical properties. Also from the PL measurements, it was observed that the peak intensities of the middle samples were significantly higher than those of the other two samples. With the given values for permittivity of free space (${\varepsilon}_0=8.854{\times}10^{-12}F{\cdot}m^{-1}$), thickness (d = 1 mm), and area ($A=10{\times}10mm^2$) of the TlBr sample, capacitances of TlBr were 6.9 pF (at $h{\nu}=3eV$) and 4.4 pF (at $h{\nu}=6eV$), respectively. Conclusion: SE and PL measurement and analysis were performed to characterize TlBr samples from the optical perspective. It was observed that dielectric responses of different TlBr samples were slightly different due to the different material properties. PL measurements showed that the middle sample exhibited much stronger PL emission peaks due to the better material quality. From the SE analysis, optical, dielectric constants were extracted, and calculated capacitances were in the few pF range.
As electromagnetic waves are affected by electrical conductivity or permittivity, they are widely used to evaluate geotechnical characteristics. In this study, a probe for measuring electromagnetic waves using a time domain reflectometry is manufactured to evaluate heavy metal concentration in saline water. In the experiments, a copper is used as a heavy metal, and a probe is demonstrated with the concentration of copper. Solutions were set for 8 different copper concentration (0, 0.01, 0.05, 0.1, 0.5, 1, 5, 10 mg/L) in saline water with 3% salinity. The probe is coated by electrical insulating materials such as epoxy, top-coat, varnish, acrylic paint, heat-shrinkage tube to measure electromagnetic waves in saline water. The measured signals are compared according to coating material. As results, for probes coated with acrylic paint and heat-shrinkage tube, signal variation is not detected. For epoxy, top-coat, and varnish coated probes, the voltage decreases with an increase of copper concentration. Probes coated by epoxy at once and top coat can estimate under 5 mg/L of copper concentration and the probe coated by epoxy twice can estimate over 5 mg/L of copper concentration. This study shows that the probe using the time domain reflectometry can be used to evaluate the concentration of heavy metal in saline water by coating the probe with insulating material.

High-k materials have been paid much more attention for their characteristics with high permittivity to reduce the leakage current through the scaled gate oxide. Among the high-k materials, $ZrO_2$ is one of the most attractive ones combing such favorable properties as a high dielectric constant (k= 20 ~ 25), wide band gap (5 ~ 7 eV) as well as a close thermal expansion coefficient with Si that results in good thermal stability of the $ZrO_2$/Si structure. During the etching process, plasma etching has been widely used to define fine-line patterns, selectively remove materials over topography, planarize surfaces, and trip photoresist. About the high-k materials etching, the relation between the etch characteristics of high-k dielectric materials and plasma properties is required to be studied more to match standard processing procedure with low damaged removal process. Among several etching techniques, we chose the inductively coupled plasma (ICP) for high-density plasma, easy control of ion energy and flux, low ownership and simple structure. And the $BCl_3$ was included in the gas due to the effective extraction of oxygen in the form of $BCl_xO_y$ compounds. During the etching process, the wafer surface temperature is an important parameter, until now, there is less study on temperature parameter. In this study, the etch mechanism of $ZrO_2$ thin film was investigated in function of $Cl_2$ addition to $BCl_3$/Ar gas mixture ratio, RF power and DC-bias power based on substrate temperature increased from $10^{\circ}C$ to $80^{\circ}C$. The variations of relative volume densities for the particles were measured with optical emission spectroscopy (OES). The surface imagination was measured by scanning emission spectroscope (SEM). The chemical state of film was investigated using energy dispersive X-ray (EDX).

This paper presents how to design and implement a very compact, cost effective and broad band receiver module for IEEE 802.16 FWA(Fixed Wireless Access) in the 40 GHz band. The presented receiver module is fabricated in a multi-layer LTCC(Low Temperature Cofired Ceramic) technology with cavity process to achieve excellent electrical performances. The receiver consists of two MMICs, low noise amplifier and sub-harmonic mixer, an embedded image rejection filter and an IF amplifier. CB-CPW, stripline, several bond wires and various transitions to connect each element are optimally designed to keep transmission loss low and module compact in size. The LTCC is composed of 6 layers of Dupont DP-943 with relative permittivity of 7.1. The thickness of each layer is 100 um. The implemented module is $20{\times}7.5{\times}1.5\;mm^3$ in size and shows an overall noise figure of 4.8 dB, an overall down conversion gain of 19.83 dB, input P1 dB of -22.8 dBm and image rejection value of 36.6 dBc. Furthermore, experimental results demonstrate that the receiver module is suitable for detection of Digital TV signal transmitted after up-conversion of $560\~590\;MHz$ band to 40 GHz.
The present investigation provides an electromagnetic radiation absorptive composition which comprises silver-coated ferrite microspheres dispersed in silicon rubber matrix for the aim of thin microwave absorber in GHz frequencies. Ni-Zn ferrite spheres with $50{\mu}m$ size in average were prepared by spray-drying and sintering at $1130^{\circ}C$. Conductive silver layer was plated on ferrite spheres by electroless plating. Conductive Ni-Zn ferrite sphere with uniform silver layer were obtained in the concentration of 10 g/L $AgNO_3$ per 20 g ferrite spheres. For this powder, electrical resistance is reduced as low as $10^{-2}\~10^{-3}\;\Omega$. The most sensitive material parameters with silver plating is real and imaginary parts of complex permittivity. The conductive Ni-Zn ferrite spheres have large values of dielectric constant. Due to this high dielectric constant of microspheres, matching thickness is reduced to as low as 2 mm at the frequency of 7 GHz, which is much thinner than conventional ferrite absorbers.

In this paper, design and fabrication of the LPF with controllable four transmission zeros using electric coupling and added open stub is presented. Pass-band of the LPF is GSM band, and two transmission zeros are generated by the electric coupling at the WiBro and S-DMB band, And the other two transmission zeros are generated by the open stub at the upper frequencies. Harmonic frequency of the stop-band is suppressed by the realization of the filter using quasi-lumped element with small parasitic values. $C_M$, which is the electric coupling element of the equivalent circuit, is realized by the distance control between the open stubs of the filter structure. The fabricated LPF used teflon substrate with relative permittivity of 2.6. And it has a size of $38{\times}20{\times}0.79 mm^3$, which is including a feed line. The measured 3 dB cut-off frequency is 1.55 GHz, and locations of the transmission zeros are 2.20, 2.43, 4.11 and 6.84 GHz, respectively.

In this paper, we have studied on the possibilities of the biomaterial detection using single-walled carbon nanotube (SWNT) based on interdigital capacitors. For the four different configurations, such as interdigital capacitor, SWNT in the $5\;{\mu}m$ gap interdigital capacitor, biotinlated SWNT, and biotin and sreptavidin immobilization cases, the resonant frequency has been measured as 10.02 GHz, 11.02 GHz, 10.82 GHz, and 10.22 GHz, respectively. Assuming that the resonant frequency reflects the capacitance changes due to binding of two-different permittivity biomaterials, we have suggested an equivalent circuit model based on measured results, confirming the capacitance changes. For biotinlated SWNT and biotin-streptavidin immobilization cases, the capacitances are $C_b=0.55\;pF$ and $C_s=0.95\;pF$. In this work, we experimentally demonstrated that the specific biomaterial binding causes the capacitance change and therefore this gives rise to resonant frequency. In conclusion, we confirmed the sufficient possibility as CNT biosensor because an analyte biomaterial(streptavidin) binding arouses a considerable resonant frequency change.
