This study was conducted to investigate the extraction method for the determination of organochlorine, organophosphorus and synthetic pyrethroid pesticide residues in beef fat by gas chromatography-mass selective detector(GC-MSD). Twenty one pesticide residues in fat were determined using a simple and rapid procedure based on solid- phase extraction(SPE) clean-up cartridges with octadecyl $(C_{18})-bonded$ porous silica, florisil, $10\%$ deactivated florisil. a tandem $C_{18}$ and florisil and a tandem $C_{18}$ and $10\%$ deactivated florisil. Solvent-solvent extraction using acetonitrile was not satisfied to eliminate fat interference for pesticide residue analysis by GC-MSD, and the recoveries of the method in fat ranged from 16.2 to $57.3\%$ except DDT$(83.2\%)$. The recoveries of SPE methods using a tandem $C_{18}$ and Florisil was $59.6\~123.8\%$ except fenitrothion $(135.2\%)$. the SPE method was verified the satisfactory performance of pre-treatment for pesticide residues analysis in fat by GC-MSD. The efficiency of florisil deactivated with $10\%$ water has been not proved significantly on recoveries of pesticide residues in fat.

Contamination by pesticides is an everincreasing problem associated with fields of environmental management and healthcare. Accordingly, appropriate treatments are in demand. Pesticide detection methods have been researched extensively, aimed at making the detection convenient, fast, cost-effective, and easy to use. Among the various detecting strategies, paper-based assay is potent for real-time pesticide sensing due to its unique advantages including disposability, light weight, and low cost. In this study, a paper-based sensor for chlorpyrifos, an organophosphate pesticide, has been developed by layering three sheets of patterned plates. In colorimetric quantification of pesticides, the blue color produced by the interaction between acetylcholinesterase and indoxyl acetate is inhibited by the pesticide molecules present in the sample solutions. With the optimized paper-based sensor, the pesticide is sensitively detected (limit of detection =8.60 ppm) within 5min. Furthermore, the shelf life of the device is enhanced to 14 days after from the fabrication, by treating trehalose solution onto the deposited reagents. We expect the paper-based device to be utilized as a first-screening analytic device for water quality monitoring and food analysis.

Acute respiratory failure is an important risk factor for mortality in patients with acute pesticide poisoning. Therefore, it is necessary to investigate the risk factors to predict respiratory failure in these patients. This study retrospectively investigated the clinical features of respiratory failure among patients with acute pesticide poisoning requiring mechanical ventilation. This study included patients who were admitted with intentional poisoning by pesticide ingestion from January 2017 to December 2019. Paraquat intoxication was excluded. Among 469 patients with acute pesticide poisoning, 398 patients were enrolled in this study. The respiratory failure rate was 30.4%. The rate of respiratory failure according to the type of pesticide was carbamate (75.0%), organophosphate (52.6%), glufosinate (52.1%), glyphosate (23%), pyrethroid (8.9%), and others (17%). The mortality was 25.6% in the respiratory failure group. The risk factors for respiratory failure were old age, low body mass index, and ingestion of more than 300 mL. In conclusion, respiratory failure is a risk factor for mortality in pesticide poisoning. Old age, low body mass index, and ingestion of more than 300 mL are the risk factors for predicting respiratory failure.
To confirm physico-chemical stability of formulated products, this study was conducted under different storage conditions; room temperature and accelerated temperature of $54^{\circ}C$. The tested pesticide formulations were dichlorvos 50% EC, acephate 50% WP, hymexazol 4% DP, thiram 80% WP and isoprothiolane 12% GR. The selected formulations were stored for 10 weeks and 5 years under the given temperature in maximum and contents of active ingredients were also analyzed by GLC or HPLC after each time of storage. The degradation rates of 5 active ingredients under the two conditions showed a similar trend except acephate. Acephate was rapidly decomposed at $54^{\circ}C$ but slowly decomposed at room temperature, and the degradation rate under the accelerated condition was 2.4 to 5-fold higher than that under the room temperature. Consequently, the stability test on active ingredients in pesticide formulations was able to recommend to be carried out under the accelerated condition except acephate. And the physical properties of all formulations tested under two storage conditions were good.
In order to develop the indicators of environmental impact of pesticide, its actual usage in paddy rice was surveyed, and usage trends of individual pesticides were evaluated. The tendency of pesticide use indicated insecticide 43%, herbicide 29%, fungicide 27% and top ranking item in insecticide, herbicide and fungicide was carbofuran, molinate + pyrazosulfuran-ethyl, IBP. The usage statistics of formulation types showed GR>DP>WP>EC>FG>SP. Pesticide usage(a.i.) per hectare was 7.13kg and total usage for paddy rice was estimated at 8,387 M/T. In the result of comparison of fact-usage with pesticide consumption reported in 1998, the fitness was 94.7% for fungicide, 84.3% for insecticide, 77.8% for herbicide. The result of monitoring pesticide residue of unpolished-rice sampled from farm house of survey indicated 0.14 ppm(BPMC), 0.16 ppm(Isoprocarb), 0.17 ppm(Isoprothiolane). In case of rice straw, the residue level was 0.27 ppm(Isoprothiolane), 0.28 ppm(IBP), 0.39 ppm(Carbofuran). The residue levels of pesticides were below MRLs.

The study was carried out to establish buffer zone for the protection of the non-target organisms by aerial pesticide application. The two pesticide combination of 3-way tank-mixing of three pesticides for aerial application, ferimzone tricyclazole SC + BPMC EC + validamycin-A SL and hexaconzole EC + isoprothiolane EC+phenthoate EC were selected for the simultaneous control of key pests on paddy rice as blast, sheath blight, brown planthopper and moth. Aquatic organisms including killifish and loach in the paddy field and nearby water reservoirs were not affected by aerial application of the pesticides. However, all the water flea were killed, when they were exposed 10 m from the aerially sprayed site, while the water flea exposed in 30 m away from the site were not affected. Honeybees within 50 m in the wind direction and 20 m in the opposite wind direction showed a mortality of $7{\sim}100%$. Residues concentration of the pesticides in paddy water were not detectable level after six days from aerial application. Drifting distance of aerially sprayed droplet from the target area was within 30 m in the wind direction and 20 m in the opposite direction. Consequently, it was the buffer zones in the aerial pesticides application for the protection of the non-target organisms should be at least 50 m for aquatic organisms and 100 m for honeybees.
The development of agricultural technology makes the increasement of pesticide usage. The results of pesticide usage were the increment of agricultural outcomes, but the health hazard was increasing also. Especially, alpine agriculture needs more pesticide than general agriculture and they suffered from more pesticide induced health symptoms. There were no study about the pesticide usage and subjective health status. So, this study was performed to investigate the relationship between pesticide usage and health status. The health status was measured by SF-12. SF-12 was well known health status measurement tool. SF-12 have two components, which were mental component score and physical component score. As a results of analysis, the alpine agricultural workers had higher pesticide exposure index and acute symptom score. As the results of multivariate analysis, physical component score was affected by pesticide exposure, but mental component score was not. Although, this study has many limitations, the result of this study can suggest the need of political advise and the further study.
This study aims to investigate if the properly use of pesticide in Ginseng farmland at Gangwon-do, Korea. Questionnaire included 36 questions such as control method for plant diseases, pests and weeds and pattern of pesticide use was answered by 271 Ginseng farmers lived in 4 cities and 8 counties at Gangwon-do. Ginseng farmers have noxious plant diseases, insects and weeds such as leaf spot, anthracnose, snail, stem-mining fly, horseweed and hairy crabgrass. To control of these, 35% of farmers relied on various type of pesticides and 31.5% of farmers used pesticides mingling with natural enemy, microorganism and organic materials. Farmers selected the pesticide based on the their own experiences or by recommendation of market dealers and neighbors, resulting in the use of inappropriate pesticides in the Ginseng farmland(78.8 % ). They followed standard dosage of the pesticide from Handbook of Pesticide Application(96.3%). They, however, used the same pesticides from 2 to 5 years(44.1 %). This consecutive use of pesticide could be induced resistance. This survey resulted that study for pesticide resistance and systematic educational program for proper use and selection of pesticide to Gingseng farmers should be conducted in farmland at Gangwon-do, Korea.
This study was performed in order to assess the risk of korean orchard worker due to pesticide exposure. The amount of pesticide exposure was calculated based on the informations of 97 kind of items that are used the form of a spraying in Korean orchard. The risks of these pesticides were assessed to compare the exposure amount with AOEL (acceptable operator exposure level) which was released form developed countries. When the operator sprayed pesticides using speed sprayer, 74.2% of pesticide items showed the risk for operator if the operator have not worn the personal protective equipment (PPE), and 42.3% of pesticide items showed the risk for operator if the operator have worn the PPE. In case of using motor sprayer, 64.1% of pesticide items showed the risk for operator if the operator have not worn the PPE, and 19.4% of pesticide items showed the risk for operator if the operator have worn the PPE. This result was indicated that the risk of pesticide against the operator was very high in korean orchard operator.
Actual pesticide usage in fruit vegetable cultivation was surveyed. Usage trend of in of vidual pesticides was evaluated to provide the data for the development of indicators of environmental impact and the production of safe agricultural products. The amount of the pesticides used for fruit vegetables was revealed in order of fungicide> insecticide> herbicide, showing that the portion of fungicide to the total amount used was about 70 to 80%. Main fungicides used on fruit vegetables were mancozeb, thiophanate-methyl propineb, etc while the insecticides were imidacloprid, milbemectin, methomyl, etc. Main formulation types of pesticide were wettable powder and emulsifiable concentrate. By different fruit vegetables and cultivation patterns, pesticide use per unit area was revealed red pepper (field cultivation, 13.2kg/ha), cucumber (field cultivation, 12.4kg/ha), sweet melon (field cultivation, 11.2kg/ha) as high pesticide use crops, meanwhile, water melon (greenhouse cultivation, 1.2kg/ha), sweet melon (greenhouse cultivation, 2.2kg/ha), strawberry (field cultivation, 2.8kg/ha) as low pesticide use crops.
