  • The digital photogrammetric products have been increasingly used as an accurate foundation for representing information associated with infrastructure management. The technological advances in merging raster and vector data within the framework of GIS have allowed for the inclusion of DTMs and digital orthophotos with vector data and its associated attributes. This study addresses not only generating DEMs and digital orthophotos but producing three dimensional building models from aerial photos of an urban area by employing the digital photogrammetric technology. DEMs and digital orthophotos were automatically generated through the process of orientations, image matching and so on, and then the practical problems, which must be solved especially in applying to urban areas, were considered. The accuracy of produced digital orthophotos was derived by using check points. Also three dimensional visualization imagery, which is useful in the landform analysis, and 3D building models were produced. Digital photogrammetric products would be used widely not only as GIS framework data layers by using the GIS link function which links attribute and image information in the database for applying to infrastructure management and but as geospatial data for especially 3D GIS in urban areas.

  • Photogrammetry has been widely used for measuring the important physical quantities in aerospace areas because it is a remote and non-contact measurement method. In this study, we analyzed photogrammetric error which can be occur in six degrees of freedom(6DOF) analysis among coordinates systems with single camera. Error analysis program were developed, and validated using geometric problem converted from imaging process. We analogized that the statistic from estimated camera pose which is need to 6DOF analysis is normally distributed, and quantified the photogrammetric error using estimated population standard deviation.

  • As the utilization of aerial images increases, a variety of software using unmanned aerial photogrammetric procedures as well as traditional aerial photogrammetric procedures are being provided. Previously, software that used the unmanned aerial photogrammetric procedure was used for images captured in small areas. Recently, however, software that uses unmanned aerial photogrammetric procedures for large-scale images taken by using aerial photogrammetric cameras has appeared. Therefore, this study generated ortho-images using aerial photogrammetry and unmanned aerial photogrammetry for large aerial images, and compared the features of both procedures through qualitative and quantitative comparisons. Experiments in the study area show that using the 3D mesh effectively removes the relief displacement of the building rather than using the digital surface model to generate ortho-images.

  • Lately, with the development of the fields of computer and photogrammetry, Digital Photogrammetric Systems are widely used for the generation of GIS basemap, the acquisition of topographic information and DEM, the formation of digital orthophoto, three-dimensional viewing and so on. According as the demand for the systems is rapidly increasing, we suggest keenly the necessity of domestic technical development, because all of these systems depend on foreign technology until now. In this study, by using digital photogrammetry method, with Visual C++ language, we have developed Digital Photogrammetric Systems for Windows which is able to get three-dimensional coordinates through interior orientation, exterior orientation, epipolar line, image matching from a pair of aerial photos taken with metric camera. This system consists of not only a module which can revise digital map that is being made at National Geographic Institute as a part of data construction project of National Geographic Information System, but also a module which can view three-dimensional image on the screen monitor by using anaglyph for three-dimensional analysis. The digital photogrammetry modules developed in this study are expected to be used as primary modules for the effective management of the urban as well as main modules in developing professional digital photogrammetric systems.

  • In urban areas, tunnelling induced ground deformations, particularly ground settlements should be considered in order to minimize the damage of adjacent structures. Therefore, an appropriate monitoring system for the tunnel construction should be setup at the planning or design stage. A number of studies on ground settlements due to tunnelling in soft ground have been carried out so far. However, most studies have focused on clay soil rather than sand soil. In particular, a few studies on behaviour of subsurface deformations in granular material have been reported. In this study, two-dimensional laboratory model test with aluminium rods regarded as continuum granular material and close range photogrammetric technique, and numerical analysis were carried out in order to identify the behaviour of subsurface deformations due to shallow tunnelling. Direction and magnitude of displacement vectors from the model test was identical to the numerical analysis. In particular, the vector direction was appeared to be toward a point below the tunnel invert level. A narrow 'chimney or tulip like' pattern of vertical displacement was confirmed by both the model test and numerical analysis. This is consistent with the field data. In addition to the qualitative comparison, the quantitative comparison of subsurface settlements according to 2D volume loss showed good agreement between the model test and numerical analysis. Therefore, close range photogrammetric technique applied in the model test may be used to validate the result from the continuum numerical analysis.

  • In this study, 2D shallow tunnel model test using close range photogrammetric technique was conducted with aluminium rods simulating continuum granular material. Numerical analysis was also carried out in order to identify the behaviour of subsurface deformations caused by shallow tunnelling. Direction and magnitude of displacement vectors from the model test were identical to the result of numerical analysis based on the model data. In particular, it is shown that the vector direction was toward a point below the tunnel invert level. A narrow "chimney or tulip like" pattern of vertical displacement was confirmed by both the model test and numerical analysis. This behaviour is consistent with the field data. In addition to the qualitative comparison, the quantitative result of subsurface settlements according to 2D volume loss showed good agreement between the model test and numerical analysis. • Photogrammetric techniques were used to analyze separation characteristics of store in safe separation flight test. In this analysis, we used single camera method to analyze 6 degrees of freedom of separated store. We established instrumentation requirements based on theoretical background of photogrammetry and guidelines of MIL-HDBK-1763. We applied the photogrammetry to flight test and extracted separation trajectory. We empirically estimated the input variables uncertainties of photogrammetry and its effects on separation trajectory. Using this trajectory which includes the photogrammetric error, we analyzed the safety of separation.

  • This paper presents a shoreline change analysis on a reclaimed land, using a pair of aerial photographs taken before and after the reclamation. Shorelines that are defined by a tide datum, i.e. Approximately Highest High Water Level, were mapped by both analytical and digital photogrammetric methods. The past shorelines were overlapped with digital cadastral map from which areas of retracted and protruded lands were computed. Magnitude of shoreline changes was estimated by calculating areas between the past and present shorelines. Comparisons in terms of areas showed a fairly good agreement between the two methods. However, particularly in the estuary of complex morphology, shoreline mapping by digital photogrammetric method requires images to be scanned at a resolution higher than 1200 dpi.

  • This study aims to apply digital photogrammetric methods on the close range photogrammetry. To get a three dimensional position with digital photogrammetric method, scanning, image matching, and bundle adjustment are performed. Comparing the three dimensional position computed by digital photogrammetric methods with ground survey values, the errors can be detected. Analyzing the errors, it is possible to present a new digital photogrammetric method for the close range photogrammetry. Image matching method used in this study is area-based pixel unit and subpixel unit method. As a result of the study, three dimensional position error is 3.32mm and the error in the single coordinate axis direction is 0.76mm in pixel unit and in subpixel unit, respective error is 3.98mm and 0.73mm.

  • Purpose: Direct anthropometry is an ideal method for preoperative planning and postoperative evaluation in plastic surgery, but it requires highly skilled specialty. Indirect anthropometry, especially photogrammetry, is an alternative method. In photogrammetry, standardized clinical photography is essential. Photogrammetry-based standardized clinical photography has several advantages over direct anthropometry. It is easier to measure and has less chance to make errors during measurement. Furthermore, it is possible to repeat measurements, and available for follow up study based on permanent custody. But, it is still different from actual measurement, and inherently less accurate than anthropometry. Methods: The authors revised the standardized clinical photography and then, carried out photogrammetry using Photoshop(Adobe, U.S.A.), and compared each data with those of anthropometry. The subjects were 50 males and 50 females, undergraduate medical students in twenties. Standard head position was obtained from the wire, fixed to cephalostat which indicates the Frankfort horizontal plane. All photographs were taken at the same situation such as fixed position of light, subject and camera, etc. Results: Total 96 measurements, based on 40 landmarks, consist of linear measurements, angular measurements and inclinations include 3 measurements in head, 22 in face, 15 in orbit, 28 in nose, 16 in lip and mouth, and 12 in ear. Conclusion: Normal photogrammetric data of face of Korean in twenties was obtained. Reliable photogrammetric measurements, not significantly different from anthropometric measurement statistically, accounted for 44 in 96 measurements(45.8%). Anthropometric values different from those of photogrammetric values were obtained by multiplying coefficient by photogrammetric value.
