  • Functional stability is dependent on integrated local and global muscle function. Movement dysfunction can present as a local and global problem, though both frequently occur together. To good understand how movement induces pain syndrome, the optimal actions and interaction of the multiple anatomic and functional systems involved in motion must be considered. Minor alterations in the precision of movement cause microtrauma and, if allowed to continue, will cause macrotrauma and pain. These alteration of the movement result in the development of compensatory movement and movement impairment. Muscle that become tight tend to pull the body segment to which they are attached, creating postural deviation. The antagonistic muscles may become weak and allow postural deviations due to lack of balanced support. Both hypertonic and inhibited muscles will cause an alteration of the distribution of pressure over the joint(s) that they cross and, thus, may not only result from muscle dysfunction, but produce joint dysfunction as well. Alteration of the shoulder posture and movement dysfunction may sometimes result in compression of neurovascular structures in the shoulder and arm. There is a clear link between reduced proprioceptive input, altered motor unit recruitment and the neurovascular compression. This report start with understanding of the impaired alignment, movement patterns and neuromuscular compression of the shoulder girdle by movement impairment to approach method of the movement dysfunction.

  • This study was conducted June 2011 at Gamo Lagoon, after tsunami of March 2011, to estimate food sources and utilization. The results show that the tsunami affected the sediment properties by changing the physical environmental alterations. The fatty acids of the gut content of Nuttallia olivacea mostly comprised the same organic matter found in the sediment. Fatty acids in the tissues showed mainly diatoms, bacteria, and dinoflagellates. That is, most of the food sources (i.e., diatoms, bacteria, dinoflagellates, macroalgae, and terrestrial organic matter) probably pass through the digestive system unharmed; however, terrestrial organic matter, which is refractory to biochemical degradation, indicated a different assimilation trend between the gut content and the tissue. This result suggests that input of labile organic matter from the sediment may control selective metabolism in N. olivacea. From these results, although the physical environment of sediment characteristics by tsunami changed, the food utilization of N. olivacea suggested a better assimilation of selected components from the gut content, irrespective of physical alteration.

  • The purpose of this study was to measure and compare tensile strength for 3 types of new direct-bond brackets and the same brackets after recycling and to evaluate recycled brackets to determine the extent of physical alteration after recycling. Three types of new direct-bond brackets were bonded to recently extracted human premolar teeth and the tensile strength was measured by Universal Testing Machine. The brackets were recycled by thermal process and the tensile test was repeated. To determine the extent of physical alteration after recycling, the slot width and the hardness of metal brackets were measured and to analyze the microstructure of the brackets, photographs of the bracket microstructure were taken. Following results were obtained: 1. The tensile strength of recycled brackets was lower than that of new brackets, but there was no statistically significant difference. (p>0.05) 2. In the new and recycled brackets, the tensile strength of mini-mesh base bracket was statistically higher than that of conturlok base bracket, $(p\leq0.05)$ but there was no statistically significant difference between production of other companies. (p>0.05) 3. The slot width of metal bracket was enlarged from 0.459mm to 0.469mm as a result of the recycling process. (p>0.005) 4. As temperature was increased in thermal treatment, the grains of bracket metal gradually became coarser and the hardness was decreased.

  • Physical weathering caused by external forces and chemical weathering caused by the decomposition or alteration of constituent materials are the two factors that dominate the mechanical properties of rocks. In this study, a field investigation was undertaken to identify the physical and chemical weathering characteristics of the biotite granite and granitic weathered soils in Gyeongju, South Korea. Samples were collected according to their grade of weathering and subjected to modal analysis, XRD analysis, XRF analysis, physical property tests, particle size distribution tests, and slake durability tests. Modal and XRD analysis identified these rocks as biotite granite; secondary alteration minerals were not observed. Physical property tests and particle size distribution analyses indicate an average porosity of 41.28% and a sand content of > 90 wt.%. These values are somewhat higher than those of granites in general. The results of the slake durability test and XRF analyses show that the physical and chemical weathering indices of the samples vary with the degree of weathering.

  • Stress is the main source of a human error or can potentially contribute to it. Recently, the rate of accidents which is associated with human factors among the total aircraft accidents is showing a tendency of gradual increase. In order to prevent the accidents related to human factors, stress mitigation of the mission personnel is highly required. In this study, a 'stress cognitive alteration' technique, which is one of the stress relief methods, is applied to the Air Force pilots to verify if the technique is effective in reducing stress. The 'stress cognitive alteration' technique is comprised of two parts: a positive function of stress and a process to positively alter the physical, psychological response to stress. As a result of the application, it is found that this technique has an effect of reducing stress of the pilots under a relatively high level of stress.

  • The objective of this study was to reveal the impact of thinning and pruning regimes on the physical and mechanical properties of clonal teak wood planted in Java. In this study, a 15-year-old clonal teak plantation was carried out and the obtained data were evaluated with analysis of variance (ANOVA). The results showed that different thinning intensities had a significant impact on the alteration of heartwood volume development (F = 25.63; p < 0.0001). Meanwhile, the impact of different thinning treatments in several physical properties depends on the pruning treatment levels [moisture content (F= 12.18, p < 0.0001); tangential shrinkage (F = 15.60, p < 0.0001); T/R ratio (F = 7.17, p < 0.0001); and volumetric shrinkage (F = 10.81, p < 0.0001)]. However, different thinning intensities had no significant impact on wood basic density alteration (F = 0.72, p = 0.486), while pruning intensities affect the differences between radial (F = 3.52, p = 0.030) and volumetric shrinkage (F = 3.13, p = 0.044). In mechanical properties, thinning intensity levels did not promote any significant differences [modulus of elasticity (F = 1.41, p = 0.248); modulus of rupture (F = 0.94, p = 0.392); compressive strength parallel to grain (F = 0.21, p = 0.813); and compressive strength perpendicular to the grain (F = 0.41, p = 0.669)]. Meanwhile, different pruning treatments and combination treatments were not significantly altered all mechanical properties. These results indicated that the thinning and pruning regimes can enhance the mechanical properties without having a serious alteration in the physical properties of clonal teak wood.

  • Alteration in the flow regime of rivers are caused by natural climate change and the changes in anthropogenic hydrological environment due to dam construction. These changes in flow regime cause serious changes not only in the fresh water ecosystems of the rivers but also in the physical structures and fish habitats of the streams. In this study, the alteration in the hydrological characteristics of the Gam river basin due to Buhang dam construction and the changes in ecological health condition, water quality, and river cross-section were analyzed. As a result of analysis by indicators of hydrologic alteration (IHA) to quantitatively change the flow regime of Gam river, HA (Hydrologic Alteration) is more than ±1 and various changes have occurred in the river ecosystem after Buhang dam construction. In addition, ecological health condition and water quality showed different response for each element, and in the case of riverbeds and channel cross-sections, the degradation of channel bed was obviously monitored after dam construction. The results of this study are expected to be used as an efficient method for evaluating changes in stream ecosystems caused by stream regime changes.
