  • In this paper, we design an optimal planar array geometry for maximum side-lobe reduction. The concept of thinned array is applied to obtain an optimal two dimensional(2-D) planar array structure. First, a 2-D rectangular array with uniform spacing is used as an initial planar array structure. Next, we modify the initial planar array geometry with the aid of thinned array theory in order to reduce the maximum side-lobe level. This is implemented by a genetic algorithm under some constraint, minimizing the maximum side-lobe level of the 2-D planar array. It is shown that the optimized planar array structure can achieve low side-lobe level without optimizing the excitations of the array antennas.

  • In order to check the validation of LC simulation, 0.7 inch LCOS panel in full-HD resolution was fabricated and used for the electro-optical measurement. Compared the measured data with the calculated data, the averaged difference was 1.72% under 0 ~ +6 V bias on pixel electrode. To improve the optical characteristics of full-HD LCOS panel, the planar structure and trench structures (0.1 um, 0.2 um and 0.3 um-in-depth) between adjacent pixels were investigated with LC simulation. The planar structure showed the higher reflectance and faster reflectance-voltage response time than the trench structure. The optical fill factor and contrast ratio of planar structure were also higher than those of trench structures. As compared 1 um-in-depth trench structure resembled to the real structure with the planar structure, the optical fill factor was improved by 1.15% and the contrast ratio was improved by 5.26%. In order to minimize the loss of luminance and contrast ratio, the planar structure need to be applied between adjacent pixels.

  • This paper investigates the line dynamic forces connecting tugs and a floater, where the planar motion of the floater is due to the weather criteria during the position keeping of the offshore structure by tugs. The analysis situation consists of the position keeping states for the seabed mooring line connection work of the offshore structure at the offshore site. Specifically, the decision about the tug power capacity for the position keeping is essential and depends on the weather criteria, line characteristics, length of line, etc. The planar motion of the structure is constrained by the interference of the installation vessel's operational range, behavior of the underwater fairlead, and other surrounding structures. In this paper, the tug line forces and planar motion of an offshore structure are summarized dependent on the tug line length and line material characteristics in the states fora given floater draft and weather criteria. The tug line dynamic forces and planar motion evaluated here will be used to determine the proper tug power and clearance of an offshore structure.

  • We characterize the tight structure of a vertex-accumula-tion-free maximal planar graph with no separating triangles. Together with the result of Halin who gave an equivalent form for such graphs this yields that a tight structure always exists in every 4-connected maximal planar graph with one end.

  • In this paper, a wideband balun of tapered structure using planar microstrip is desigde ad analyzed. The balun structure was fabricated on a Teflon substrate with a thickness of 0.8mm and relative dielectric constant ${\varepsilon}_r$ of 2.5. Two back-to back CPW-to-CPS transitions were simulated and optimized using HFSS. A movel plaar balun using tapered structure of microstip to CPW is suggested and designed. The measurement result, the bandwidth for a reflection coefficient better than -10dB of the balun is 2GHz to 8GHz. The planar balun can improved the performance of wide band spiral antenna.

  • A three-dimensional; structural health monitoring; vertical; planar; cross-sample entropy; multiscaleA three-dimensional structural health monitoring (SHM) system based on multiscale entropy (MSE) and multiscale cross-sample entropy (MSCE) is proposed in this paper. The damage condition of a structure is rapidly screened through MSE analysis by measuring the ambient vibration signal on the roof of the structure. Subsequently, the vertical damage location is evaluated by analyzing individual signals on different floors through vertical MSCE analysis. The results are quantified using the vertical damage index (DI). Planar MSCE analysis is applied to detect the damage orientation of damaged floors by analyzing the biaxial signals in four directions on each damaged floor. The results are physically quantified using the planar DI. With progressive vertical and planar analysis methods, the damaged floors and damage locations can be accurately and efficiently diagnosed. To demonstrate the performance of the proposed system, performance evaluation was conducted on a three-dimensional seven-story steel structure. According to the results, the damage condition and elevation were reliably detected. Moreover, the damage location was efficiently quantified by the DI. Average accuracy rates of 93% (vertical) and 91% (planar) were achieved through the proposed DI method. A reference measurement of the current stage can initially launch the SHM system; therefore, structural damage can be reliably detected after major earthquakes.

  • This paper describes a planar microstrip patch antenna designed on dielectric substrate. Two types of planar microstrip patch antennas are studied for the 5G wireless applications, one type is conventional microstrip structure, the other type is stacked microstrip structure fed by coaxial probe. Using electromagnetically coupling method, stacked microstrip patch antenna employing a multi-layer substrate structure was designed. The results indicate that the proposed stacked microstrip patch antenna performs well at 5G wireless service bandwith a broadband from 3.42GHz to 3.70GHz. The impedance bandwidth(VSWR≤2) is 360MHz(10.28%) from 3.42GHz to 3.78GHz. In this paper, through the designing of a stacked microstrip patch antenna, we have presented the availability for 5G wireless repeater system.

  • Tight junctions (TJ) between adjacent Sertoli cells in testis are important for the formation of the blood testis barrier (BTB). In an effort to verify the reproductive health risk of endocrine-active chemicals (EACs), changes in the transepithelial electrical resistance (TER) and the expression of TJ genes were examined by co-planar polychlorinated biphenyl (PCB) treatment in cultured mouse Sertoli cells. Although the increase in TER of Sertoli cells was accelerated by 10 nM co-planar PCB, it was downregulated by 100 nM co-planar PCB. The expression of claudin-1 was downregulated by co-planar PCB in a concentration-dependent manner. On the contrary, the expression of claudin-1 was increased in the Sertoli cells by 10 nM co-planar PCB treatment. These results suggest that the structure and function of TJ may be targeted by co-planar PCB in Sertoli cells. Assessment of the structure and function of TJ in Sertoli cells might be useful for screening the reproductive health risk of EACs.

  • This paper proposes a planar Log-Periodic Dipole Array(LPDA) antenna with light-weight supporting structure for installing on an aircraft. The proposed antenna is designed by applying a planar skeleton supporting structure that has light-weight for an aircraft and is capable of withstanding structural vibration. The material of the planar skeleton supporting structure is a Polyether ether ketone(Peek) which has excellent characteristics on strength and temperature. The proposed antenna is fabricated by attaching the radiating elements of the LPDA on both sides of the supporting structure. The changed input impedance due to the dielectric material of the supporting structure was compensated for by controlling the distance and length of several radiating elements. The 10-dB return loss bandwidths of the designed planar LPDA antenna with light-weight supporting structure are obtained as 0.4~3.1 GHz(7.3:1) in the simulation and 0.41~3.5 GHz(8.2:1) in the measurement. The average gains in 0.5~3 GHz band are 6.77 dBi in the simulation and 6.55 dBi in the measurement. Therefore, we confirm that the designed antenna is appropriate to be installed on an aircraft due to its light-weight structure and wideband directional radiation characteristics.
