This study investigated the high temperature oxidation behavior of Ni-22.4%Fe-22%Cr-6%Al (wt.%) porous metal. Two types of open porous metals with different pore sizes of 30 PPI and 40 PPI (pore per inch) were used. A 24-hour TGA test was conducted at three different temperatures of $900^{\circ}C$, $1000^{\circ}C$ and $1100^{\circ}C$. The results of the BET analysis revealed that the specific surface area increased as the pore size decreased from 30 PPI to 40 PPI. The oxidation resistance of porous metal decreased with decreasing pore size. As the temperature increased, the oxidation weight gain of the porous metal also increased. Porous metals mainly created oxides such as $Al_2O_3$, $Cr_2O_3$, $NiAl_2O_4$, and $NiCr_2O_4$. In the 40 PPI porous metal with small pore size and larger specific surface area, the depletion of stabilizing elements such as Al and Cr occurred more quickly during oxidation compared to the 30 PPI porous metal. Ni-Fe-Cr-Al porous metal's high-temperature oxidation micro-mechanism was also discussed.

Porous alumina ceramics with two different pore sizes were fabricated using hollow microspheres as the pore-forming agent. The relative density, total porosity, and microstructure of the obtained alumina ceramics were studied. It was found that the total porosity of sintered samples with different amounts of hollow microsphere content, from 2.0 to 4.0 wt%, was 69.3-75.6%. The interconnected and spherical cell morphology was obtained with 3.0 wt% hollow microsphere content. The resulting ceramics consist of a hierarchical structure with large-sized cells, and small-sized pores in the cell walls. Moreover, the compressive strength of the sintered samples varied from 8.3-11.5 MPa, corresponding to hollow microsphere contents of 2.0-4.0 wt%.
A sintering aid, $B_{2}O_{3}$ have been included into a $LiAlO_{2}$ electrolyte support by a tape casting method in order to reinforce mechanical strength of the support for molten carbonate fuel cells [MCFCs). Starting idea originates from the low melting point of $B_{2}O_{3}$ ($450^{\circ}C$), which can provide the low temperature consolidation of ceramic materials. The mechanical properties and the microstructure changes of the $B_{2}O_{3}$-included electrolyte support were examined by scanning electron microscope, mercury porosimetry, X-ray powder diffraction [XRD], high temperature differential scanning calorimeter and three-point bending strength measurement. The mechanical strength was clearly improved by addition of $B_{2}O_{3}$. The increase of mechanical strength results from the neck growth of a new $LiAlO_{2}$ phase between $LiAlO_{2}$ particles by the liquid phase sintering. Average pore size and porosity of the electrolyte support reinforced by addition of the sintering aid, $B_{2}O_{3}$, was $0.24{\mu}m$ and 59%, respectively which were suitable microstructure of a matrix for an application of MCFCs.
Mesoporous ${\gamma}-Al_2O_3$ has been prepared by selective leaching of silica from calcined domestic kaolinite. From XRD and TG-DTA data, it was found that the microstructure of a spinel phase, consisting of ${\gamma}-Al_2O_3$ containing a small mount of amorphous silica, was obtained by calcining kaolinite samples at around $1000^{\circ}C$ for 24h. Porous ${\gamma}-Al_2O_3$ was prepared by selectively dissolving the amorphous silica in KOH solutions of 1~4M at temperatures of $25~90^{\circ}C$ for leaching time of 0.5~4h. In the case of the ${\gamma}-Al_2O_3$ obtained upon KOH treatment of 4M at $90^{\circ}C$ for 1h, it showed a very narrow unimodal pore size distribution, and also formed much mesopore at a diameter of around $40~80{\AA}$. The specific surface area was $250\textrm{m}^2/g$ and the total pore volume was $0.654\textrm{cm}^3/g$.
Sensing properties of $\alpha$-Fe2O3 thin film to reducing gases such as CHx and CO were systematically examined after deposition on Al2O3 substrate by PECVD(Plasma Enhanced Chemical Vapor Deposition)technique. Microstructure of deposited $\alpha$-Fe2O3 thin film showed the porous island structure. This specimen was annealed at 450, 550, $650^{\circ}C$ to enhance the gas sensing properties and investigated in terms of CO and C4H10 concentration from 500ppm to 3,000 ppm at operating temperature of 35$0^{\circ}C$ The gas sensitivity(%) to C4H10 measured at the operating temperature of 35$0^{\circ}C$ was 98.24 (highest sensitivity) 69.51 to CO and 2% to CH4 respectviely.

Three-layer porous alumina-mullite composites with a symmetric gradient porosity are prepared using a controlled freeze/gel-casting method. In this work, tertiary-butyl alcohol (TBA) and coal fly ash with an appropriate addition of $Al_2O_3$ were used as the freezing vehicle and the starting material, respectively. When sintered at $1300-1500^{\circ}C$, unidirectional macro-pore channels aligned regularly along the growth direction of solid TBA were developed. Simultaneously, the pore channels were surrounded by less porous structured walls. A high degree of solid loading resulted in low porosity and a small pore size, leading to higher compressive strength. The sintered porous layered composite exhibited improved compressive strength with a slight decrease in its porosity. After sintering at $1500^{\circ}C$, the layered composite consisting of outer layers with a 50 wt% solid loading showed the highest compressive strength ($90.8{\pm}3.7MPa$) with porosity of approximately 26.4%.

A serpentine mineral was treated in hydrochloric acid solution to obtain amorphous silica residue with high surface area. The highly porous silica with aluminum hydroxide and sodium hydroxide was hydrothermally reacted in an autoclave. A numerous experiments were performed in terms of reaction time, temperature, alkalinity, and calcinations temperature. As a result, a ZSM-5 zeolite of the highest crystallinity was produced under such conditions as $^170{\circ}C$ of the reaction temperature, 24 hours of the reaction time, and $11.7Na_2O{\cdot}Al_2O_3{\cdot}90SiO_2{\cdot}3510H_2O{\cdot}10.8(TPA)_2O$ the composition along with 3 hours of the calcinations at $600^{\circ}C$.
The SiC-porcelain powder mixtures containing 51.9wt% SiC are produced as by-products from the surface abrasion process of porcelain cores. This raw powders were used as starting materials for the synthesis of SiC containing ceramics. The specimen, which was fired at 135$0^{\circ}C$ from raw powders, had SiC, $Al_{2}O_{3}$, , cristobalite, mullite as crystalline phases, and the fractured microstructure showed dispersed SiC crystalline particles almost wetted with glassy matrix and spherical pores. Although the oxidation of SiC containing powder compacts wetted with glassy matrix and spherical pores. Although the oxidation of SiC containing powder compacts started at the range of 600~80$0^{\circ}C$ form the analysis of weight gain, the presence of $SiO_{2}$ crystallien phase and cristobalite was confirmed at 100$0^{\circ}C$ by XRD analysis. Mullitization of specimens was accelerated by preheating before the final firing. The specimen sintered at 135$0^{\circ}C$ after 100$0^{\circ}C$ preheating consisted of SiC, cristobalite, mullite as crystalline phases, and revealed 2.24g/$cm^{3}$ bulk density, 11.73% water adsorption, porous microstructure with small amount of glassy phase. SiC contents of specimens, which was 51.9 wt% in the raw powders, reduced to 37~22 wt% after firing at 135$0^{\circ}C$ depending on the preheating condition.
Hardened cement paste is mainly affected by corrosion of sulphate and chlorine ions in sea water. In this investigation, many specimens were made with the cement clinker minerals such as C3S, C3A, C4AF and their mixture according to cement composition added various blending materials. After the specimens were immersed in 4% MgSO4 and MgCl2 solutions, the product of reaction, the microstructure of specimen and Ca+2 ion leached in the solution were studied. The formation of Ca(OH)2 in the specimen of C3S is reduced relatively by adding pozzolanic admixtures. The chlorine ion is easily diffuse into the C3S specimen and produced CaCl2 compound, and it makes the specimen porous by leaching out itself into the solution. The specimen of C3A, C4AF are broken down by expanding reaction of ettringite and gypsum compound produced in the MgSO4 solution. At a later period, the ettringite is transformed into gypsum and 5MgO.2Al2O3·15H2O. The C3A in the MgCl2 solution combines chlorine ion to form Friedel's salt and prevents the diffusion reaction of chlorine ion into the specimen. Granulated slag shows inferior effect on the resistance of the specimen in MgSO4 solution by forming ettringite and gypsum, but good result in MgCl2 solution. Pozzolanic materials, on the whole, offer noticable effect on the resistance of the specimen in both solutions.
