Objective : The study was designed to evaluate the effects of treatment of Bell's palsy patients with posterior ear pain by the Sa-Am acupuncture. Methods : From December 5th 2003 to May 22th 2004, the clinical comparison studies were carried out 30 cases of Bell's palsy patients with posterior ear pain treated by Sa-am acupuncture Sojangjeonggyeok(Group 1) & General acupuncture(Group 2), who had been treated in Dept. of acupuncture and moxibustion, Oriental Medical Hospital, Dae-Jeon University. Results : The result obtained as follows; 1. There was no significant difference between the two groups in the degree of improvement by H-B grade(p>0.05). 2. Group 1 is more effective than Group 2 in the VAS score after 5, 10 days of each treatment about mastoid pain($p{\leq}0.05$). Conclusion : In this study, although Sa-am acupuncture Sojangjeonggyeok was effective treatment of the posterior ear pain, there was no significant difference between the Group 1 and Group 2 in the degree of improvement of facial palsy. So further research is needed continuously.

Objectives : This study was designed to evaluate the effect of treatment Acute peripheral facial paralysis patient with postauricular pain by Bee Venom Pharmacopuncture Methods : This report have been observed among thirty patients with peripheral facial paralysis patient with postauricular pain who admitted to oriental medicine hospital with Daejeon university During 11-01-2008 to 08-31-2009. These patients were diveided into two groups; One was control group that was treated general oriental medical treatment(Group I) and The other was treated Bee Venom Pharmacopuncture in the posterior ear with general oriental medical treatment. (Group II) Results : 1. Group II was more effective than Group I in the VAS score after 1st, 2nd, 3rd Bee Venom Pharmacopuncture treatmenton posterior ear about postauricular pain. 2. In Group II compared with Group I, postauricular pain duration was reduced. 3. As a result of evaluation by using Yanagihara score, they were not significant score within two groups after final treament. Conclusions : Bee Venom Phannacopuncture on peripheral facial paralysis patient with postauricular pain in the posterior ear was more effective in reducing the pain.

Objectives : The purpose of this study is to evaluate the effect of BUM pharmacopuncture and Soyeom pharmacopuncture on postauricular pain accompanied peripheral facial paralysis. Methods : We observed 31 peripheral facial paralysis patients with postauricular pain at Oriental Hospital of Semyung University from Jan. 1st, 2010 to Feb. 29th, 2012. One group(group A) was treated BUM Pharmacopuncture in the posterior ear with general oriental medical treatment and the other(group B) was treated Soyeom pharmacopuncture in the posterior ear with general oriental medical treatment. Results : 1. Postauricular pain was significantly decreased in each group but no significant difference between two groups. 2. Facial paralysis was significantly improved in each group and significant difference in group B. Conclusions : In peripheral facial paralysis patients with postauricular pain, both BUM pharmacopuncture and Soyeom pharmacopuncture were effective on postauricular pain.

Temporomandibular disorders(TMD) have been defined as a collective term embracing a number of clinical problems that involve the temporomandibular joint, the masticatory muscles, and associated structures. Since Dr. James Costen has mentioned about the relationship between TMD and posterior bite collapse, there have been many controversies about the etiology and comorbidities of TMD. The purpose of this study was to investigate the relationship between TMD and hearing acuity in 158 volunteers with or without TMD symptoms. The subjects were examined clinically about TMJ sound, missing teeth, tinnitus, TMJ pain and masticatory muscle pain and the hearing acuity were measured by Audiometer(ITO AE-1000, Japan). The result of this study indicated that there was no significant differences between TMD symptoms and hearing acuity relatively.

Objectives : This study was designed to evaluate the effect of Soyeom Pharmacopuncture on postauricular pain accompanied acute peripheral facial paralysis. Methods : We observed thirty peripheral facial palsy inpatients with postauricular pain at Cheonan oriental hospital of Daejeon university from Jan. 1st, 2009 to July 31th, 2009. These inpatients were divided into two groups; Group A was treated using general treatment and Group B was treated using general treatment and Soyeom Pharmacopuncture on the posterior ear area. Results : 1. Postauricular pain was significantly decreased in Group B. 2. Duration of postauricular pain was significantly reduced in Group B. 3. Improvement of facial paralysis was not significantly different between Group A and Group B. Conclusions : Soyeom Pharmacopuncture has significant effects on a postauricular pain accompanied with peripheral facial paralysis.

Skull base osteomyelitis is a rare but life-threatening complication of inflammation of the ear. The authors present a case of skull base osteomyelitis of unknown etiology in a non-diabetic patient who presented with unilateral posterior neck and occipital headache mimicking cervicogenic headache.
