Flow distribution and pressure drop analysis for an inlet plenum of a Pebble Bed Modular Reactor (PBMR) have been performed using Computational Fluid Dynamics. Three-dimensional Navier-Stokes equations have been solved in conjunction with $k-{\epsilon}$ model as a turbulence closure. Non-uniformity in flow distribution is assessed for the reference case and parametric studies have been performed for rising channels diameter, Reynolds number and angle between the inlet ports. Also, two different shapes of the inlet plenum namely, rectangular shape and oval shape, have been analysed. The relative flow mal-distribution parameter shows that the flow distribution in the rising channels for the reference case is strongly non-uniform. As the rising channels diameter decreases, the uniformity in the flow distribution as well as the pressure drop inside the inlet plenum increases. Reynolds number is found to have no effect on the flow distribution in the rising channels for both the shapes of the inlet plenum. The increase in angle between the inlet ports makes the flow distribution in the rising channels more uniform.
J.Y. CHOI,S. J. KIM, E. L. LEE. Change of plantar pressure Distribution of Open Stance during Forehand Strke in Tennis. Korean Journal of Sport Biomechanics, Vol. 15, No. 1, PP. 143-153, 2005. Recently among several tennis techniques forehand stroke has been greatly changed in the aspect of spin, grip and stance. The most fundamental factor among the three factors is the stance which consists of open, square and close stance and it is very important to know the patterns of plantar pressure distribution for the better understanding of forehand stroke. Therefore, the purpose of this study was to investigate the change of plantar pressure distribution in open stance during forehand stroke in tennis. Three high school tennis players were recruited for the study and required to perform forehand stroke five consecutive trials in the condition of open stance. The forehand strokes were filmed with two digital video cameras and measured with pedar system for plantar pressure. The plantar regions under the foot were divided into 3 regions, which were forefoot, midfoot, and rear foot. In conclusion, The plantar pressure of open stance during forehand stroke was distributed more largely to the right foot. The plantar pressure of open stance during forehand stroke was distributed more weight loads on forefoot of right than heel of right
In this study, body pressure was quantitatively detected using built-in optical sensors, inside an air cushion seat. The proposed system visualizes the effect of the body pressure distribution on the air cushion seat. The built-in sensor is based on the time-of-flight (ToF) optical method, instead of the conventional electrical sensor. A ToF optical sensors is attached to the bottom surface of the air-filled cells in the air cushion. Therefore, ToF sensors are durable, as they do not come in physical contact with the body even after repeated use. A ToF sensor indirectly expresses the body pressure by measuring the change in the height of the air-filled cell, after being subjected to the weight of the body. An array of such sensors can measure the body pressure distribution when the user sits on the air cushion seat. We implemented a prototype of the air cushion seat equipped with 7 ToF optical sensors and investigated its characteristics. In this experiment, the ToF optical pressure sensor successfully identified the pressure distribution corresponding to a sitting position. The data were accessed through a mobile device.

In the design of catalytic converter, velocity distribution is more important than pressure drop because monolith pressure drop is about 80% of overall pressure drop. For the catalytic converter with single diffuser, pressure drop is decreased as the angle of diffuser decrease, but when the angle is below 18$^{\circ}$, the effect is almost negligible . For the catalytic converter with double diffuser, variation of the angle of the first diffuser shows the same trend as the pressure drop while the shape of diffuser gives little influence on that The outlet shape gives negligible effect on the pressure drop and velocity . distribution . Results show that recirculation region of commercial model is aoubt 30% of the total area in the front of monolith. For the catalytic converter with Model 11 that was presented in the study, recirculation region was not detected more uniform velocity distribution was obtained, and pressure drop was also decreased.

The film sensor is used for measuring pressure distribution at planar area, especially at a small space or gap. The present paper deals with the development of film type sensors and system for pressure distribution measuring. The developed system is consist of (1)film sensor with 40/sup */40 array, (2)PCI interface card with maximum sampling rate of 100㎐, and (3)software for data processing and real-time display. The contact pressure test of wiper blade and front glass of vehicle was performed with wiper blade by 40cm. Generally spring force of wiper arm is designed at 0.7∼1kN. Test results of total force was 9.4N and 7.1N in each driver and passenger toward. The paper suggested possibility for base definition in wiper design. A windshield wiper blade experiment revealed that the system successfully measured the contact force distribution during static state, showing the usefulness of the developed system.

Sloshing phenomenon is a complicated free surface flow problem that increases the dynamic pressure on the sidewalls and the bottom of the storage tanks. When the storage tanks are partially filled, it is essential to be able to evaluate the fluid dynamic loads on the tank's perimeter. In this paper, a numerical code was developed to determine the pressure distribution on the rectangular and trapezoidal storage tanks' perimeters due to liquid sloshing phenomenon. Assuming the fluid to be inviscid, the Laplace equation and the nonlinear free surface boundary conditions were solved using coupled boundary element - finite element method. The code performance for sloshing modeling was validated using Nakayama and Washizu's results. Finally, this code was used for partially filled rectangular and trapezoidal storage tanks and free surface displacement, pressure distribution and horizontal and vertical forces exerted on the tanks' perimeters due to liquid sloshing phenomenon were estimated and discussed.
Optical Line Patternator(OLP) has been applied to get a distribution of the spray at high ambient pressure. OLP is a combined technique of extinction measurement and image processing. The attenuated intensity of laser beam after traversing spray region was measured by using a photo-detector, and the line image of Mie-scattering was captured simultaneously in the path of each laser beam by using a CCD camera. The distribution of extinction coefficient in the spray is obtained by processing these data with the algebraic reconstruction technique. From the distribution of extinction coefficient, the surface distribution of spray can be reconstructed. OLP does not use laser sheet but use laser beam so that the noise effect of multiple scattering, caused by increasing number density of droplet in high pressure environment, is reduced drastically. OLP is expected as a suitable method which can investigate the characteristics of relatively large spray under the high pressure environment such as liquid rocket engine.
Wind tunnel model studies were carried out to determine the wind load distribution on tributary areas near the gable-end of large, low-rise buildings with high pitch planar and curved roof shapes. Background pressure fluctuations on each tributary area are described by a series of uncorrelated modes given by the eigenvectors of the force covariance matrix. Analysis of eigenvalues shows that the dominant first mode contributes around 40% to the fluctuating pressures, and the eigenvector mode-shape generally follows the mean pressure distribution. The first mode contributes significantly to the fluctuating load effect, when its influence line is similar to the mode-shape. For such cases, the effective static pressure distribution closely follows the mean pressure distribution on the tributary area, and the quasi-static method would provide a good estimate of peak load effects.

An experimental study was conducted to investigate the effects of leading edge extension(LEX) on the surface prssure distribution over a delta wing in a subsonic wind tunnel. Freestream velocity was 40m/sec and Reynolds number per meter was 1.7x$10^6$ with total pressure of 101Pa and total temperature of 278K. LEX changed the surface pressure distribution on the wing dramatically. Comparing with the results without LEX, the peak of pressure distribution decreased on the front chordwise location but it turned to increase on the rear chordwise location with increase of the angle of attaci. The spanwise gradient of the pressure distribution also increased in the rear chordwise location. Without LEX, the peak of pressure distribution increased and decreased irregularly with increase of the angle of attack at each chordwise location, but LEX made it increased almost linearly with increase of the angle of attack at all of the chordwise locations.

This study investigated the spray modeling of the pressure-swirl atomizer installed in liquid rocket engine and the effect of drop distribution function especially. The $X^2$, originally implemented to KIVA, Rosin-Rammler and modified Rosin-Rammler distribution functions were investigated theoretically and compared to each other. Also, they were applied to pressure-swirl atomizer similar to the injector installed in liquid rocket engine to evaluate the feasibility for LRE injector. Among the distribution functions, original Rosin-Rammler distribution function was the most compatible with predicting the spray characteristics of pressure-swirl atomizer installed in liquid rocket engine.
