  • 1147 preschool children aged from 3 to 6 living in some farm villages in Kyungki-do were surveyed on dmf and distribution of dental caries in primary dentition.   • The present study was performed to establish the cephalometric standards of Hellman dental age II C groups of Korean on the roentgenocephalometry. The subjects consisted of 26 males and 25 females with normal occlusion and acceptable profile. The major conclusions may be listed as follows: 1) The tables of standard deviation from the measurements were made. 2) All linear measurements of skeletal pattern in male were greater than in female with exception of the mandibular body length measurement. 3) The labial inclinations of the upper and lower incisors were greater in female than in male. 4) Vertical growth tendency of the face nab conformed in the late primary dentition as compared with the measurements of the mixed dentition.

  • The present study was performed to establish the cephalometric standards of linear measurements in Hellman dental age II C groups of Korean on the roentgenocephalometry. The subjects consisted of 21 males 31 females with normal occlusion and acceptable profile. The major conclusions were as follows. 1. The means and standard deviations of the measurements in males and females were made. 2. No sex difference was made in all items, except in U₁-Y and U₁-X.

  • The purpose of this study was to compare the retentive forces of various types of clasps for removable orthodontic appliances for primary and mixed dentition. Seven metal models of a single tooth and two teeth were made, including maxillary left primary canine, first primary molar, second primary molar and first molar. Retentive forces of Adams clasp, circumferential clasp(C clasp), Jackson clasp, Duyzing clasp, arrowhead clasp, ball clasp, eyelet clasp, and triangular clasp were measured by Universal Testing Machine(Zwick Z020, Germany). The obtained results were as follows. 1. Jackson clasp and Adams clasp showed the highest retentive force among single tooth clasps. 2. C clasp showed the lowest retentive force, and there was no statistically significant difference in retentive force between mesial end C clasp and distal end C clasp. 3. Eyelet clasp showed the highest, and ball clasp showed the lowest retentive farce among clasps for interdental undercut. 4. Triangular clasp showed higher retentive force than ball clasp.

STUDY ON ADAPTABILITY OF RUBBER DAM CLAMPS ON PRIMARY SECOND MOLARS IN KOREAN CHILDREN (한국인 소아에서 제2유구치에 대한 러버댐 클램프의 적합도에 관한 연구)

  • The purpose of this study was to investigate the mesiodistal widths at the cervical level of primary second molars in Korean children, and to compare them with commercial rubber dam clamps commonly used in pediatric dentistry. Dental casts of 115 primary and mixed dentition children were studied. Cervical mesiodistal width (C-MD) was measured at the clinical cervical level of each primary second molar from buccal and lingual sides using a digital caliper (Absolute, Mitutoyo, Kawasaki, Japan). The data were compared with mesiodistal widths of rubber dam clamps #203/204, #10/11, and #205 (Dentech, Japan). C-MDs of primary mandibular second molars were larger than those of primary maxillary second molars, and C-MDs at buccal sides were larger than those of lingual sides. All C-MDs showed statistically significant discrepancies to corresponding widths on clamps (p < 0.05). However the amount of discrepancy was mild in maxillary teeth, while up to 1 mm of discrepancy was shown in mandibular teeth. In conclusion, C-MDs measured in this study imply a relatively fair fit of #10/#11 or #203/#204 clamps on primary maxillary second molars, while suggesting our need for a better clamp with proper size for primary mandibular second molars.

FACIAL GROWTH CHANGE AFTER ORTHODONTIC TREATMENT IN CHILDREN (Second Report) (소아(小兒)에 있어 교정전후에 악골의 변화(變化)에 관(關)한연구(2차보고))

  • This study was undertaker to observe the longitudinal change by orthodontic treatment for early Class III malocclusion in primary and mixed dentition. Cephalometric roentgenograms of 8 children with Class III malocclusion obtained during activator therapy were measured and compared with those obtained before activator therapy. The following results were observed. During treatment with activator; 1. The maxilla became retrueded in A,C,E, and K and protruded in F, G, H, and J. 2. The mandible became retruded in A,C,E, and F and F and protruded in H and J. No difference was observed in G and K. 3. Gonial angle became reduced in A,C,E,F, and K and increased in H. No difference was observed in G and J. 4. The steepness of mandibular plane became reduced in C,E,F,G,H, and J and increased in A. No difference was observed in K. 5. The inclination of upper incisor became more labially in A,C,E,G,H,J, and K. No difference was observed in F. 6. The inclination of lower incisor became more lingually in all cases.
