Analysis of the Relationship between Technological Problem-Solving Traits and Engineering Design Competency of Universities (대학생의 기술적 문제해결 성향과 공학설계 역량 간의 관계 분석)

  • The purpose of this study is to correlation analysis between technological problem-solving traits and engineering design competency. To this end, correlation analysis and regression analysis between technological problem-solving traits and engineering design competency were used to analyze the relationship between each other. To collect data on individual characteristics, technological problem-solving traits, and engineering design competency, a survey was conducted with university students. As a result of the analysis, there was no difference in engineering design competency by gender, but there was a difference in technological problem-solving traits. There was no difference in technological problem-solving traits by major, but there was a difference in engineering design competency. As a result of correlation analysis, the correlation was found. In the case of regression analysis, a statistically significant result was found in the problem-solving trait domain, and the regression analysis model was found to be suitable. The results of the analysis of differences in engineering design competency according to technological problem-solving traits showed that the effective problem solvers were significantly higher.

  • Many methods have been suggested for a creative problem solving approach. TRIZ approach is ranked top in its practical application because it is originated from the real patent analysis. This approach is assumed to be generic which can be applied to any types of problems regardless of problem type and its domain. The objective of this study is to propose a creative problem solving approach using TRIZ's contradiction analysis, then introduce a case study of applying this approach to a creative design coursework. Main topic covers a creative problem solving approach, a problem definition using TRIZ contradiction analysis, finding invention principles, and problem solving from the generic approach. For the course project, Roborobo tool is adopted to implement the design concept. This coursework helps students finding a general problem solving approach, and applying a generic solution for their specific problem domain.

  • The article discusses roles of analysis in problem solving, especially the problem posing. The author shows the procedure of analysis like the presentation of the hypothesis, the reasoning for the necessary conditions and the sufficient condition. Finally the author suggests that the analysis should be reviewed in the school mathematics.

Sociodemographic and Health Related Factors Influencing Problem Drinking of the Echo Generation Using Data of the 2018 Korean National Health and Nutrition Examination Survey

  • The aim of this study was to identify factors influencing problem drinking among the Echo Generation in South Korea and provide basic data for early intervention and mediation of problem drinking among the Echo Generation. This descriptive study performed a secondary analysis of raw data from the 2018 Korean National Health and Nutrition Examination Survey and used responses for problem drinking items from 999 Echo Generation participants born between 1979 and 1992. This study comprehensively investigated sociodemographic and health-related factors influencing problem drinking among the Echo Generation. SPSS WIN program (version 26.0) was used for data analysis. Gender (β=-.32, p<.001), education level (β=.10, p=.002), white-collar workers out of job (β=-.09, p=.041), and depression (β=.11, p<.001) were identified as factors that influenced problem drinking among the Echo Generation. Results of this study suggest that in order to prevent problem drinking among the Echo Generation, there should be user-customized prevention education and intervention programs.

  • The problem solving processes of elementary school children who are talented in science have been seldom studied. Researchers often resort to thinking aloud method to collect data of problem solving processes. The major purpose of the study is investigating high ability elementary school students' problem solving processes through the analysis of written responses to science problems in everyday context. 67 elementary students were participated Chungcheongbuk-do Elementary Science Contest held on October, 1997. The written responses of the contest participants to science problems in everyday context were analyzed in terms of problem solving processes. The findings of the research are as follows. (1) High ability elementary students use various concepts about air and water in the process of problem solving. (2) High ability elementary students use content specific problem solving strategies. (3) The problem solving processes of the high ability elementary students consist of problem representation, problem solution, and answer stages. Problem representation stage is further divided into translation and integration phases. Problem solving stage is composed of deciding relevant knowledge, strategy, and info..ins phases. (4) High ability elementary students' problem solving processes could be categorized into 11 qualitatively different groups. (5) Students failures in problem solving are explained by many phases of problem solving processes. Deciding relevant knowledge and inferring phases play major roles in problem solving. (6) The analysis of students' written responses, although has some limitations, could provide plenty of information about high ability elementary students' problem solving precesses.

  • In this paper, contents related to problem solving in 7th elementary mathematics curriculum analyzed in five aspects: problem solving stages, problem solving strategies, problems, problem posing, and assessment on problem solving abilities. From the results and processes of analysis, following conclusions are obtained: First, it is difficult to say the contents related to problem solving in 7th elementary mathematics curriculum are prepared organically. Second, it is difficult to say that contents related to problem solving in 7th elementary mathematics curriculum reflect results of recent researches.

  • Finding or automatically generating problem instance is useful for algorithm analysis/test. The topic has been of interest in the field of hardware/software engineering and theory of computation. We apply objective value-distance correlation analysis to problem spaces, as previous researchers applied it to solution spaces. According to problems, we define the objective function by (1) execution time of tested algorithm or (2) its optimality; this definition is interpreted as difficulty of the problem instance being solved. Our correlation analysis is based on the following aspects: (1) change of correlation when we use different algorithms or different distance functions for the same problem, (2) change of that when we improve the tested algorithm, (3) relation between a problem instance space and the solution space for the same problem. Our research demonstrates the way of problem instance space analysis and will accelerate the problem instance space analysis as an initiative research.

  • The robust control problem of the linear systems with uncertainty is classified as the robust stability problem guaranteeing the stability and the robust performance problem guaranteeing the disired performance. In this paper, we considered the robust performance analysis problem, which find the upper buund of the quadratic performance of the uncertain linear system, and the robust guaranteed performance controller design problem which design a controller guaranteeing the desired quadratic performance. At first, we treated the analysis problem and presented the two results; one is dependent on the performance of the nominal system and another is independent on this. And we treated the design method guaranteeing the desired performance for the uncertain linear systems, Finally, we show the usefulness of our results by numerical examples.

  • This study dealt with some problems occurred in spectrometric oil analysis that has been popularly used for a machine condition monitoring in various fields of industry. One of the problems is that spectrometric technique could not analyze contaminants of large particle (larger than 10 $\mu\textrm{m}$) in lubricating oils. This limitation caused a serious problem in analyzing lubricated machine conditions since wear debris of large size represents better critical machine conditions. In this work, this problem was found to be solved by using a filtration method prior to spectrometric analysis. Another problem could be that spectrometric analysis is incapable of identifying contaminants. This nay mislead the result seriously in practice. This problem was surveyed by analyzing both various types of industrial lubricants and laboratory simulation tests, and the solutions to the problem were suggested in this work.

  • There are several kinds of mathematical thinking. The most basic mathematical thinking is analysis and synthesis. The problem of analysis and synthesis is one of the most important things in mathematics. We used mathematical textbook of Prof. Gusev for the study on the problem of analysis and synthesis. We suggested basic classification standard of problem of analysis and synthesis through historical survey and then suggested specific classification standard.
