  • This article investigates the interrelationships in daily returns using fractionally integrated error correction term and volatilities using constant conditional correlation and dynamic conditional correlation GARCH with asymmetries between Capesize and Panamax markets. Our findings are as follows. First, for the fractionally cointegrated error correction model, there is a unidirectional relationship in returns from the Panamax market to the Capesize market, but a bidirectional causal relationship prevails for the traditional error correction models. Second, the coefficients for the error correction term are all statistically significant. Of particular interest are the signs of the estimates for the error correction term, which are all negative for the Capesize return equation and all positive for the Panamax return. Third, there are bidirectional volatility spillovers between both markets and the direction of the information flow seems to be stronger from Panamax to Capesize. Fourth, the coefficients for the asymmetric term are all significantly positive in the Capesize market, but the Panamax market does not have a significant effect. However, the coefficients for the asymmetric term are all significant, implying that the leverage effect does exist in the Capesize and Panamax markets.

  • Although 'the International Ship Registration Act' has been enacted in Korea as of 1997, its effect is still in question to make shipowners and operators flag in or reflag because of insufficient incentives for them. Therefore, 'the Special Law for Jeju Free International City' has been established and the system of 'Special Ship Registration Zone' has also been enforced. Despite this, few studies were carried out to measure the relative importance of factors for Jeju International Ship Register yet. Against this backdrop, the purposes of this study are firstly, to investigate a relative importance of Jeju International Ship Registration System using AHP(Analytic Hierarchy Process) and secondly, to compare the characteristics of Flags of Convenience(FOC) with International Ship Register(ISR) which was adopted by several Far East Asia Countries(e.g., China, Hong Kong, Chinese Taipei and Japan). Moreover, this study aims to compare FOC with ISR in terms of shipping policy, ship management, and expenses and tax policy. In this paper, the factors were constructed with four high levels consisting of twenty one low levels to evaluate Jeju International Ship Register by utilizing Expert's brainstorming and AHP. According to the results, it is critical to expand the exemption and tax-related expenses, and also manage foreign-related systems systemically. This study provides important implications to maintain the tonnage tax system for ships effectively as well as to intensify the competitiveness of Jeju International Ship Register System.

  • The development of ocean industries is an existing and important problem for South Korea, which is mostly surrounded by sea and has a long coastline along three seas. It is necessary for researchers to make efforts to enhance its cost and time competitiveness, because many ocean-based activities have been carried out in harsh physical conditions when compared with land-based ones. One of these efforts to improve efficiency is to operate an Offshore Supply Base (OSB), which is a basic infrastructure required to develop ocean industries effectively. For this reason, the construction and operation of OSBs have become an issue in Korea. The relevant research is limited. Nevertheless, there are a few reports published by Korean research institution. They focus on promoting ocean industries and only mention the necessity of OSB as a promotion tool for the industries. This study on the other hand, addresses various issues on the construction of OSBs in Korea and suggests implications for them. To examine the conditions on the construction of OSBs in Korea, we conduct case studies of Houston and Singapore, the representative regions where a massive OSB has been constructed and operated. In addition, we use Analytic Hierarchy Process (AHP) to evaluate the relative priorities of the services provided by OSBs if constructed in Korea.

  • Objective: To ananlyze the direct effect of nitric oxide (NO), generated from sodium prusside (SNP) on the embryo developments in reproductive process. Design: Ova from mouse were treated to allow fertilization in in vitro culture. And the samples of fertilized ova were alloted into five alliqutos. Each alliquot was cultured in media treated with either concentration at 0 (n=92), $25{\mu}M$ (n=84), $50{\mu}M$ (n=80), $100{\mu}M$ (n=77), $500{\mu}M$ (n=54) of SNP. Main Outcome Measure: Rates of embryonal cell cleavages, viability and cell morphology were assessed during in vitro fertilization and culture. Results: As analyse the cell cleavage at 24 hours after in vitro culture of fertilised egg in variuos NO concentration, all of egg cells of each alliquot were developed to $2\sim4$ cell stage. But the alliquot of egg cells treated with $50{\mu}M$, which were totally degenerated. And also all embryonal cells of each alliquot were developed to 8 cell stage and morula stage on culture continuosly. And the embryonal cells of each alliquot were analysed at 24 and 48 hours following the in vitro culture. The rates of cell fragmentation and fusion were $4.2{\pm}3.4%$ in control group which is not treated with NO, while experimental groups was high, as rated $23.4{\pm}6.2%$ in $25{\mu}M$, $28.2{\pm}5.7%$ in $50{\mu}M$ and $32.1{\pm}6.4%$ in $100{\mu}M$ concentration of NO. Accordingly the rate of abnormal morphology of embryonal cell in control was lower significantly than that in each alliquot of experimental groups (p<0.05). And the degenerated rates of embryonal cells were 0% in control, $17.8{\pm}6.7%$ in $25{\mu}M$, $23.6{\pm}4.7%$ in $50{\mu}M$ and $26.8{\pm}11.2%$ in $100{\mu}M$ at 8 cells and morula on culture of 48 and 72 hours. On the examination of embryonal cells developed to blastocyst through in vitro culture, the rates of degenerated cells were $16.8{\pm}7.2%$ in control, $37.5{\pm}6.2%$ in $25{\mu}M$, $73.4{\pm}4.6%$ in $50{\mu}M$, 100% in $100{\mu}M$. Conclusion: This results suggeted that the NO in any concentrations is harmful on embryos in view of morphology as well as viability of cell, and the toxicity of NO on embryo is stronger at condition in higher concentration of NO.

  • Object: The present study was accomplished to obtain a gene expression profile of the luminal epithelium during embryo apposition in comparison of implantation (1M) and interimplantation (INTER) sites. Material and Method: The mouse uterine luminal epithelium from IM and INTER sites were sampled on day 4.5 (Day of vaginal plug = day 0.5) by Laser Captured Microdissection (LCM). RNA was extracted from LCM captured epithelium, amplified, labeled and hybridized to microarrays. Results from microarray hybridization were analyzed by Significance Analysis of Microarrays (SAM) method. Differential expression of some genes was confirmed by LCM followed by RT-PCR. Results: Comparison of IM and INTER sites by SAM identified 73 genes most highly ranked at IM, while 13 genes at the INTER sites, within the estimated false discovery rate (FDR) of 0.163. Among 73 genes at IM, 20 were EST/unknown function, and the remain 53 were categorized to the structural, cell cycle, gene/protein expression, immune reaction, invasion, metabolism, oxidative stress, and signal transduction. Of the 24 structural genes, 14 were related especially to extracellular matrix and tissue remodeling. Meanwhile, among 13 genes up-regulated at INTER, 8 genes were EST/unknown function, and the rest 5 were related to metabolism, signal transduction, and gene/protein expression. Among these 58 (53+5) genes with known functions, 13 genes (22.4%) were related with $Ca^{2+}$ for their function. Conclusions: Results of the present study suggest that 1) active tissue remodeling is occurring at the IM sites during embryo apposition, 2) the INTER sites are relatively quiescent than IM sites, and 3) the $Ca^{2+}$ may be a crucial for apposition. Search for human homologue of those genes expressed in the mouse luminal epithelium during apposition will help to understand the implantation process and/or implantation failure in humans.

  • As times progress, creative change is achieved by attempts to embrace different needs. These attempts are expressed as the form of an Object which pulls down the barriers of genre between art. There is now in fact difficult to find a work that doesn't contain the characteristic of an Object. The necessity of this study is that it tries to approach an Object with a holistic perspective and understand it as a single system. It also tries to analyze the roles that an Object's characteristic and expression and the research ways they influence the dance work by contemplating the aesthetic discussion process of an Object in the art field. Also, by researching the characteristics of expression and how Objects stimulate a dance work, this study will take an important part in developing the dance works. Based on this necessity, this research choose the works of William Forsythe, (2006), (2009), (2009) which clearly depicts the expression characteristics of an Object. It is noted that the usage of an Object maximized creativity and brought expansion of expressions in a dance performance by using diverse mediums, body actions and even nonmaterial components without losing the essence of a dance. As a result, this usage of an Object provides theories that bring the enlargement of expression and suggests various ways to overcome the limits of other existing dance works.

  • The present SOLAS Convention has maintained safety regulations in a largely prescriptive form and this has become overly prescriptive now. The prescriptive rules do not properly reflect technical advances and changing environments in the maritime sector in a timely manner. The purpose of this study is to provide preliminary research to lay a foundation for the development of a new regulatory framework based on safety performance which is not a prescriptive rule making bases. This study reviewed the concept and characteristics of a minimum requirement, the implications of safety regulations in terms of strategic, commercial and technical aspects, the compensative correlation between constructional requirements and operational measures, the concept of safety with regard to final stage confirmation of functions, expansion of implementers and objects of safety regulations, and the balance between safety and environmental protection requirements. Based on these research, 10 principles for the rule formulation process has been suggested such as consideration on the hardware requirements and software requirement, the multi-stage approval concept, new safety concerns for complex shipboard systems, considerations on the human element, regulatory impact assessments and measures to reduce administrative burdens.
