  • As many sensors and actuators are used in various automated systems, the application of network system to real-time distributed control is gaining acceptance in many industries. In order to take advantages of the network technique. however, network implementation should be carefully designed to satisfy real-time constraints and to consider network delays. This paper presents the implementation of feedback control system in Profibus-DP. Profibus-DP is a type of fieldbus protocols that are specifically designed to interconnect simple devices with fast I/O data exchange. As feedback control in profibus-DP is implemented, Network delays is found with influence of system performance. We analyze network delays in Profibus-DP into 3 reasons - dead time in Profibus interface, protocol delay, delay by asynchronization. In order to compensate the network delays, we introduce control algorithms with time delay concept. The results show that network delay can be compensated.

  • PROFIBUS is an open industrial communication network for a wide range of application in manufacturing automation and process control systems. PROFIBUS-DP(Decentralized Peripherals) are mainly used to connect smart automation devices via a fast serial link. PROFIBUS-DP adopts master/slave mechanism for communication service. In this paper, we present an implementation method of the protocol stacks for the master station of PROFIBUS-DP.

  • As many sensors and actuators are used in many automated systems, various industrial networks are adopted for real-time distributed control. In order to take advantages of the networking, however, the network implementation should be carefully designed to satisfy real-time requirements considering network delays. This paper presents the implementation of a remote feedback control system via Profibus-DP net work for real-time distributed control More specifically, the effect of the network delay on the control performance evaluated on Profibus-DP testbed. Also, the traditional PID gain tuning methods are used to demonstrate the feasibility of the remote feedback control.

  • In this paper, we describe a slave chip based on the Profibus-DP protocol and a system board to verify the developed slave chip. The Profibus-DP protocol is designed using VHDL and implemented on FPGA. The system board adopting the developed FPGA is designed FPGA is designed in which the firmware is implemented on Intel 8051 by using C language. Among the Profibus-DP protocols, low level layers from the physical layer to the data link layer is implemented in the form of hardware that we are able to greatly reduce the CPU load in processing protocols, and then higher layers could be processed by software. These technologies result in an IP to make terminal devices in the distributed control systems. Therefore, many digital logics as well as communication logics can be implemented onto SOC(System On a Chip) and it could be applied to various fieldbus-related areas.

  • This paper investigates on the feasibility of fuzzy logic control for networked control systems. In order to evaluate its feasibility, a networked control system for motor speed control is implemented on a Profibus-DP network. The NCS consists of several inde-pendent, but interacting processes running on two separate stations. By using this NCS, the network-induced delay is analyzed to find the cause and effect of the delay. Furthermore, in order to prove the feasibility, the fuzzy logic controller's performance is compared with those of conventional PID controllers. Based on the experimental results, the fuzzy logic controller can be a viable choice far NCS due to its robustness against parameter uncertainty.

In order to take advantages of the networking, however, the network implementation should be carefully designed to satisfy real-time requirements considering network induced delays. This paper presents an implementation scheme of a networked control system via Profibus-DP network fur real-time distributed control. More specifically, the effect of the network induced delay on the control performance is evaluated on a Profibus-DP testbed. Also, two conventional PID gain tuning methods are slightly modified fur fouling controllers fur the networked control system. With appropriate choices for gains, it is shown that the networked control system can perform almost as well as the traditional control system.

  • This paper focuses on a method to connect mobile devices such as mobile robot, Automated Guided Vehicle(AGV) to a fieldbus. In this paper, the IEEE 802.11 wireless LAN is used to extend a Profibus-DP network for the mobile devices. In order to integrate these two networks, a protocol converter is developed with two process(i.e., master process of Profibus-DP and virtual master process of IEEE 802.11) and an transmission buffer. Futhermore, a virtual polling algorithm is developed at the protocol conveter in order to satisfy real-time requirements on data communication.

  • Profibus-DP is the performance-optimized version of Profibus, specifically dedicated to time-critical communication between automation systems and distributed peripherals. It is included into the International Fieldbus Standard IEC 61158. In this paper, The ASIC for Profibus-DP simple and intelligent slave is proposed and implemented. It can be fully compatible with Siemens LSPM2 as a pin-to-pin base and it also has a high-level function that can replace current intelligent slave boards with one chip. Also it can be used without special OS coding unlike SPC3 of Siemens.
