Qualitative Study on PE Class of Experienced Teachers and Prospective Teachers as to Elementary Student Experience (초등학생이 경험하는 경력교사와 예비교사의 체육수업에 대한 인식 조사)

  • This study intends to explore the characteristics of prospective teachers with a qualitative study based on the experience of students. To that end, the classes of prospective teachers and experienced teachers were compared through the students with focus on PE class. Practicum is the first teaching experience of prospective teachers and there are many related studies. However, there are few studies contributing to the reflective introspection of prospective teachers based on the experience of students. Thus, this study intends to promote their reflective introspection on their practicum, the first teaching experience. It was revealed that the majority of students find the prospective teachers' class less helpful than the class of experienced teachers. The detailed findings are as follows. First, the students find that prospective teachers only focus on the textbook and materials they have prepared. Second, most students find that prospective teachers do not consider the level of students as they focus on the textbook only. Third, most students find the class of prospective students uninteresting. Fourth, most students find that prospective teachers are unable to help students acquire various functions easily. The findings show that the majority of students find the prospective teachers' classes are inadequate. It implies that prospective teachers do not gain effective teaching skills at their universities (college of education). Prospective teachers should identify their areas of improvement based on their student experience.

Time-based Prospective Memory of Children : Effect of Reminder Type (기억유발자극이 아동의 시간의존적 미래계획 기억 발달에 미치는 영향)

  • To analyze the effect of reminder type on the development of time-based prospective memory of children, 270(90 each 5-, 7-, and 9-year old) participants were randomly divided by age group into three subgroups : self-cued reminder, other-cued reminder, and control groups. Results showed that the performance of time-based prospective memory significantly increased with age, and the presentation of reminders was effective for improving the performance of time-based prospective memory. For younger children the presentation of other-cued reminder was more effective than self-cued reminder, but for the older children, presentation of self-cued reminder was more effective than other-cued reminder.

Association Between C-reactive Protein and Risk of Cancer: A Meta-analysis of Prospective Cohort Studies

  • Background: Associations between elevated C-reactive protein (CRP) and cancer risk have been reported for many years, but the results from prospective cohort studies remains controversial. A meta-analysis of prospective cohort studies was therefore conducted to address this issue. Methods: Eligible studies were identified by searching the PubMed and EMBASE up to October 2012. Pooled hazard ratios (HR) was calculated by using random effects model. Results: Eleven prospective cohort studies involving a total of 194,796 participants and 11,459 cancer cases were included in this meta-analysis. The pooled HR per natural log unit change in CRP was 1.105 (95% confidence interval (CI): 1.033-1.178) for all-cancer, 1.308 (95% CI: 1.097-1.519) for lung cancer, 1.040 (95% CI: 0.910-1.170) for breast cancer, 1.063 (95% CI: 0.965-1.161) for prostate cancer, and 1.055 (95% CI: 0.925-1.184) for colorectal cancer. Dose-response analysis showed that the exponentiated linear trend for a change of one natural log unit in CRP was 1.012 (95% CI: 1.006-1.018) for all-cancer. No evidence of publication bias was observed. Conclusions: The results of this meta-analysis showed that the elevated levels of CRP are associated with an increased risk of all-cancer, lung cancer, and possibly breast, prostate and colorectal cancer. The result supports a role of chronic inflammation in carcinogenesis. Further research effort should be performed to identify whether CRP, as a marker of inflammation, has a direct role in carcinogenesis.

A Systematic Review from the Journals of the Korean Oriental Medical Society. (대한한의학회지 및 대한한의학회 산하 정회원 학회의 학술진흥재단 등재지에 대한 천식 임상연구의 체계적 고찰)

  • Objectives: This study aimed to evaluate any clinical research regarding asthma published by the Korean Oriental Medical Society and its sub-societies for future rigorous clinical research. Methods: Every article relevant to asthma was initially obtained from journals in the Korean Oriental Medical Society and its sub-societies by electronic search at journal web sites or manual search. Journals were limited to those registered by the Korea Research Foundation. From initial findings, two independent reviewers selected clinical articles and these articles were further analyzed separately into predefined criteria according to prospective and retrospective studies. For prospective studies, quality assessment was also conducted. Results: From 99 articles initially obtained, 19 were finally analyzed. 14 were prospective whereas 5 were retrospective. Among the prospective articles, there were no randomized controlled trials and the non-randomized studies had no control groups, with several problems of quality regarding pre-calculated study size and unbiased assessment. None of the retrospective studies described asthma diagnosis objectively and outcome measures were either non-relevant to asthma or non-validated. Conclusions: Well-designed randomized controlled studies for asthma are needed and more rigorous non-randomized controlled studies should be conducted.

Prospective Elementary Teachers' Perceptions on Assessment in Mathematics (초등 예비교사들의 수학교과에서의 평가에 대한 인식)

  • There has been a continual need for change of teachers' assessment practices as shifting a paradigm in education. Teachers' appropriate perception of assessment influences quality of assessment and leads to change of teachers' assessment practices. This study aimed at investigate prospective elementary teachers' perceptions on assessment in mathematics. To this end, we conducted a survey with the questionnaire which was developed based on previous studies on assessment. The questionnaire was composed of 41 questions about purposes and roles of assessment, materials of assessment, reliability of assessment, methods and strategies of assessment. 95 prospective elementary teachers participated in the survey. As a result, we found that prospective elementary teachers had appropriate perception on roles of assessment, materials of assessment and strategies of assessment, whereas they showed somewhat narrow perception on reliability of assessment, purposes and methods of assessment. Based on the results, we presented possible explanations about prospective elementary teachers' lack of perception on assessment and discussed implications for prospective elementary teacher education.

Analysis of Prospective Teachers' Mathematical Content Knowledge about Differential area (예비교사의 미분영역에 관한 내용지식의 분석)

  • The purpose of the study investigate mathematics content knowledge(MCK) of prospective teachers in differential area. 70 prospective teachers were asked to perform six questions based on Cho's MCK (2010, 2011). The results show that depending on whether they experience any teacher education program, the level of prospective teachers' mathematics content knowledge may vary. In particular, prospective teachers struggled with an unfamiliar problem situations. We also found that prospective mathematics teachers have some difficulty in solving problem about the use of mean value theorem and derivative.

Child Care Teachers' Reflective Assessment on Practical Training Experiences (보육교사의 실습지도 경험에 관한 반성적 평가)

  • This study used a qualitative research method to comprehensively deal with child care training in depth with the following content: the goals of child care teachers preparing for practical training; how they perform and feel about their roles throughout the training period as child care teachers; and their evaluation after the training period. A total of 10 people participated in the research and the training activities of child care teachers were qualitatively explored based on the results. The research findings are as follows. First, child care teachers have expectations for prospective teachers and take time for self-evaluation while preparing for teaching. Also, child care teachers set a goal of helping prospective teachers develop into outstanding teachers and have expectations for it. Second, child care teachers evaluate prospective teachers by treating them as colleagues while teaching them. Furthermore, child care teachers consider themselves as educators who train and produce child care professionals. Prospective teachers define their roles as assistants and learners in the actual educational scene. In addition, child care teachers feel a sense of pride by performing as hands-on training teachers. At the same time, they reflect on themselves by evaluating their duties as educators in their relationships with prospective teachers. Third, child care teachers suggested the need for changing the training system for themselves and prospective teachers after training. In addition, they argued that the gaps between school education and the actual educational scene should be reduced through solid training for acquiring new knowledge and information in both places in accordance with the rapidly-changing child care environment. Finally, the suggested the necessity of establishing a standard training curriculum and educational programs within their institution.

A Systematic Review of Clinical Studies for Herbal Medicine of Dementia - based on Korean Literature - (치매의 한약물 치료에 대한 체계적 임상논문 고찰 - 국내문헌을 중심으로 -)

Methods: Every article relevant to dementia was initially obtained from oriental medical related journals by electronic search at journal web sites or manual searches. Journals were limited to those registered with the Korea Research Foundation. From initial findings. two independent reviewers selected clinical articles and these articles were further analyzed separately by predefined criteria according to prospective and retrospective studies. For randomized controlled trial and non randomized controlled trial. quality assessment was also conducted. Results: From ninety seven patients initially obtained articles. twenty three patients were finally analyzed. One article was randomized controlled study. Four articles were prospective whereas eighteen patients were retrospective. In the qualitative evaluation of prospective articles. there was deduction regarding pre-calculated study size and prospective data collecting. Assessment measurement most frequently used was Mini Mental State Examination. The order of frequency of use herbs were identified. Conclusions : According to our study. the herbal medicine for dementia in general showed a positive effect in the cognitive aspects of dementia patients. Further well-designed randomized controlled studies should be conducted.

An analysis on teachers' perception on the education curriculum for prospective Korean language teachers (예비교사 교육과정에 대한 한국어교사의 인식)

  • Since the enactment of the "Framework Act on the Korean Language (herein after "Act ), researchers have focused their studies on measuring whether the Act played a huge role in providing Korean education. This can be confirmed by many, that the Act has indeed played a huge part in providing Korean language education. However, little attention was given to the validity of the education curriculum for prospective Korean language teachers as provided by the Act. Therefore, this survey has been conducted to provide an insight to teachers' perception of the Korean language curriculum for prospective teachers and will test whether such perception meets the standards in which the Act has been enacted. In this survey, we have received response on the importance of each domain and subject in the areas of Korean language education as viewed by the Korean language teachers. The results revealed the importance in the following order: Teaching Practice, Korean Linguistics, Korean Educational Linguistics, General Linguistics, and Korean Culture. These results strongly suggest that there is a need for the current curriculum, laid out by the Act, to be reconsidered to stress different levels of importance and time assignment for each category. The survey analysis shows the disparity in importance within the curriculum between the Act and the views in which the Korean language teachers perceive Korean language education. While further research is needed to confirm the analysis of this survey, this area of research will be instrumental in determining the suggestive shapes of the curriculum governed by the Act in the years to come.

The Effect of Satisfaction of Entrepreneurship Education on Successful Entrepreneurship

  • Recently, many policies and fairs have been made in relation to start-ups. In addition, various start-up education for prospective start-ups is being conducted in various ways. Therefore, these days, the number of prospective start-ups who receive such information and start-up education is increasing. Nevertheless, more and more start-ups are still unsuccessful and close their businesses within months or years. In particular, start-ups who continue to maintain their start-ups also see the unfortunate reality of start-ups that find other jobs in various support systems and related policies and relationships that they cannot quit even if they want to. In this study, based on previous studies, factors for satisfaction with entrepreneurship education will be set and a questionnaire will be conducted for prospective entrepreneurs who have completed education at a startup education center in Seoul. The survey results are intended to verify their reliability and validity through empirical analysis. The SPSS statistical package will be used for analysis, and a total of 200 copies of the questionnaire will be distributed and collected. In this study, it was confirmed that the higher the satisfaction with entrepreneurship education, the better the successful entrepreneurship. In addition, I think that further developing various policies or detailed curriculums for entrepreneurship education will be of great help to prospective entrepreneurs taking entrepreneurship education.
