  • Magnesium thin flims were prepared on cold-rolled steel substrates by RF magnetron sputtering technique. The influence of argon gas pressure and substrate bias voltage on their crystal orientation and morphology of the coated films were investigated by scanning electron microscopy (SEM) and X-ray diffraction, respectively. And the effect of crystal orientation and morphology of magnesium films on corrosion behaviors was estimated by measuring anodic polarization curves in deaerated 3%NaCl solution. From the experimental results, all the sputtered magnesium films showed obviously good corrosion resistance to compare with 99.99% magnesium target of the sputter-evaporation metal. Finally it was shown that the Corrosion-resistance of magnesium films can be improved greatly by controlling the crystal orientation and morphology with effective use of the plasma sputtering technique.

  • ZnO:Ga thin films were deposited by RF magnetron sputtering technique from ZnO (3 wt.% $Ga_2O_3$) target onto glass substrates under various RF power. The influence of RF power on the structural, electrical, and optical properties of ZnO:Ga thin films was investigated by X-ray diffraction, atomic force microscopy, Hall method and optical transmission spectroscopy. As the RF power increases from 50 to 110W, the crystallinity is deteriorated, the root main square surface roughness is decreased and the sheet resistance is increased. The increase of sheet resistance is caused by decreasing carrier concentration due to interstitial Ga ion. All films are transparent up to 80% in the visible wavelength range and the adsorption edge is a red-shift with increasing RF power.

  • Ferroelectric SrBi2Ta2O9(SBT) films were deposited on Pt/Ti/SiO2/Si substrates at 50$0^{\circ}C$ using a sintered SBT target Bi and Ta targets by modified rf magnetron sputtering and then were annealed at 80$0^{\circ}C$ for 10min in oxygen ambinet(760 torr) The composition of the SBT films could be easily controlled using the mul-ti-targets. The film composition of {{{{ {Sr }_{0.8 } {Bi }_{2.9 } {Ta}_{2.0 } {O }_{9 } }} was obtained with SBTd sputtering power of 100 W Bi of 25W and Ta of 10 W. A 250nm thick SBT films exhibited a dense and uniform microstructure and showed the remanent polarization(Pr) of 14.4 $\mu$C/cm2 and the coercive field({{{{ {E }_{c } }})of 60 kV/cm at applied voltage of 5 V. The SBT films show practically no polarization fatigue up to {{{{ {10 }_{10 } }} cycles under 5V bipolar pulse. The retention characteristics of the SBT films looked very promising and the leakage current density of the SBT films was about 1.23$\times${{{{ {10 }^{-7 } }}A/c{{{{ {m }^{2 } }} at 120kV/cm.

  • LiNbO$_3$films were prepared by an rf-magnetron sputtering technique using sintered target containing potassium. The potassium was included to help to fabricate stoichiometric LiNbO$_3$film. Structural and electrical properties of thin films was investigated as a function of deposition condition. Optimum sputtering conditions were rf power of 100W, working pressure of 1m Torr and substrate temperature of 58$0^{\circ}C$. The thin film was grown to (012) preferred orientation. The dielectric constant of the thin film LiNbo$_3$ fabricated under optimum condition was 55 at 1MHz. Average grain size is about 200$\AA$ and roughness of the film is small enough to apply to optic devices.

  • In this paper, we investigated the deposition condition of Bragg reflector formation that will be expected to play an important role in future FBAR device applications. The thin films were deposited using an RF/DC magnetron sputtering technique. The material characteristics such as deposition rates, grain structures and surface roughnesses of the deposited silicon dioxide (SiO$_2$) and tungsten (W) films were investigated for various deposition conditions. As a result, it was found that the deposition condition could significantly affect the material characteristics of the deposited films and also the optimization of the deposition process is essentially important to obtain the desirable Brags reflector structure consisted of high-quality in films.

  • Using RF magnetron sputtering, amorphous carbon(a-C) thin films as electron filed emitter were fabricated. these a-C thin films were deposited on Si(001) substrate at several temperatures. The field electron emission property of these a-C thin films was estimated by a diode technique. As the result, we observed that the field emission properties of the films were changed singnificantly with the substrate temperature and structural features of a-C film. The field emission properties were promoted by higher substrate temperatures. Furthermore N-doped a-C film exhibits more field emission property than that of undoped a-C film. These results are explained as change of surface morphology and structural properties of a-C film.

  • C-axis-oriented ZnO thin films were successfully deposited on p-Si (100) in an RF magnetron sputtering system. Deposition conditions such as deposition power, working pressure, and oxygen gas ratio were varied. Crystalline structures of the deposited ZnO films were investigated by a scanning electron microscope (SEM) technique. Results show that the deposition parameters can have a strong impact on the preferred orientations and grain sizes of the deposited ZnO films.

  • $Cu(In_xGa_{1-x})Se_2$ (CIGS) thin film solar cell is one of the most promising solar cells in photovoltaic devices. CIGS has a direct band gap which varied from 1.0 to 1.26 eV, depending on the Ga to In ratio. Also, CIGS has been studying for an absorber in thin film solar cells due to their highest absorption coefficient which is $1{\times}10^5cm^{-1}$ and good stability for deposition process at high temperature of $450{\sim}590^{\circ}C$. Currently, the highest efficiency of CIGS thin film solar cell is approximately 20.3%, which is closely approaching to the efficiency of poly-silicon solar cell. The deposition technique is one of the most important points in preparing CIGS thin film solar cells. Among the various deposition techniques, the sputtering is known to be very effective and feasible process for mass production. In this study, CIGS thin films have been prepared by rf magnetron sputtering method using a single target. The optical and structural properties of CIGS films are generally dependent on deposition parameters. Therefore, we will explore the influence of deposition power on the properties of CIGS films and the films will be deposited by rf magnetron sputtering using CIGS single target on Mo coated soda lime glass at $500^{\circ}C$. The thickness of CIGS films will be measured by Tencor-P1 profiler. The optical properties will be measured by UV-visible spectroscopy. The crystal structure will be analyzed using X-ray diffraction (XRD). Finally the optimal deposition conditions for CIGS thin films will be developed.
