  • For the RIV characteristics test of power apparatus, an indoor measuring system of radio influence voltage was set up and by means of this measuring unit SIV characteristics on the 7$^{1}$2/" pin-type domestic insulators were examined. According to the test data, RIV values of all the test pieces exceeded the maximum permissible level at 10kV applied voltage. The electrical resistivity of domestic semi-conductive glaze as good as importedone but un-uniformity of coating is turned out to be a main cause of failure.lure.

  • A stochastic model "STO-RIV" for the prediction of water quality variation in a river system has been developed. Extended Streeter-Phelps equation and Monte Carlo simulation are used in the model. The model is applied to the reach of Waegwan to Mulkeum in the Nakdong River to compute the probability distribution of BOD and DO concentration at Mulkeum site. As the strategies to attain the goal of the water quality, some alternatives considering the treatment effect of the Keumho river are discussed using the stochastic model. Application of stochastic analysis to water quality management is strongly recommended in this country.s country.

  • A finite element model RIV-FEM2 for the hydrodynamic study in a river is developed based on two-dimensional shallow water wave equation and dissipative Galerkin's method. RIV-FEM2 consists of pre-processing, analysis processing and post-processing. Pre- and analysis processing is programmed with Fortran-77 and post-processing with turbo-Pascal respectively. The model is tested with two dimensional problems, including flow through bends, bridges, and symmetric contraction. The two dimensional tests shows stable and efficient results for various situations. Applicability of the model is verified by applying to natural river. The model will provide a basic contribution to the hydrodynamic analysis in a river.

  • This paper describes an application of the on line partial discharge measurement method in operating transformer. In the operating transformer, the partial discharge signal may be superimposed by radio intereference voltage(RIV) and pulse shaped noise signals generated by external corona. The partial discharge quantity showed about 3,800pC due to very high sinusoidal interferences at the measuring impedance terminal of the transformer bushing tap. In order to reject these noises, this paper applied RIV filter, band-pass filters and noise gating method. The resulting measuring sensitivity was improved from 3,800pC to 160pC.

  • Recently, GIS softwares such as WMS, ArcHydro, and HyGIS which can calculate hydrological geographic parameters are popularized. These softwares have the functions to calculate various geographic parameters which are used in water resources from DEM (Digital Elevation Model). In this study, hydrological geographic parameters calculated by WMS and ArcHydro are compared and examined with them from HyGIS to evaluate the applicability of the parameters from HyGIS. Bochungcheon (Riv.), Wicheon (Riv.), Pyungchanggang (Riv.), Gyungancheon (Riv.), Naerincheon (Riv.), and Imjingang (Riv.) watersheds are selected for this study, and the shape of watershed, watershed area, watershed slope, the average slope of watershed, main stream length, main stream slope, maximum flow distance, and the slope of maximum flow distance are calculated to compare and examine the characteristics. Study results show that the average relative error of 7 geographic parameters from all the watersheds is 4.77 %, and all the watershed boundaries are very similar. So, all the geographic parameters calculated by each software show very similar value, and the geographic parameters calculated by HyGIS can be applied to water resources with WMS and ArcHydro which have been generally used.

  • High turbid water in the River has been one of the major concerns to the downstream residence. Especially in the Nakdong River basin severe turbid water problem occurred in year 2002 and 2003 due to the typhoon Rusa and Maemi consecutively. The main objective of this study is to develop turbid water management system in reservoir downstream of the Nakdong River combining physically based semi-distributed hydrologic simulation model SWAT with 1-dimensional dynamic water quality simulation model. SWAT model covers the area from the upstream of the Imha and Andong reservoir to the Gumi gage station for the purpose of estimating flow rates and suspended sediment of the tributaries. From year 1999 to 2007 runoff simulation for 8 years $R_{eff}$ and $R^2$ ranges $0.46{\sim}0.9$, $0.54{\sim}0.99$ respectively. Through the linkage of models, outputs of SWAT model such as suspended sediment and flow rates of the tributaries can be incorporated into the 1-dimensional dynamic water quality simulation model, KoRiv1 to support joint reservoir operation considering the turbidity released from Imha and Andong reservoir. The applicability of model simulation has been tested for year 2006 and compared with measured data.

  • A water quality model RIV-LAGI for the toxic pollutant transport analysis is developed based on varied flow analysis and one-dimensional Lagrangian method. Applying to the prismatic channel, it shows accurate results compared with the analytical solutions. The model is applied to the Nakdong River to analyze the phenol spill accident, which occurred on March, 1991. The computed results have good agreements with the observed data. The travel times in the reach of Gumi to Mulkeum based on the monthly average and minimum flow are computed. The suggested model can be used to study the impact of the chemical spills and clean-up plans in the Nakdong River.
