  • Form the application of long rail system the non-ballast steel plate bridges, fatigue strength increase and rail noise reduction can be expected. This is mainly form the reduction of the rail impact at the rail joint locations which already made to behave together from welds. In the high speed rail, application of long rail system is essential because without long rail system, the required serviceability level can not be achieved. But even with this long rail systems, the thermal expansion from the girder can not be absorbed in the normal bearing systems, and these expansion cause between girder and rail. Also unexpected rail buckling and fracture through rail thermal tension may happen. It was found through numerical analysis and field measurement that these problems can be avoided by semi-fixed bearing system. In this study, the benefits of non-ballast plate bridge through long rail system, especially at the point of girder stability, girder stiffness increase and bearing maintenance will be reviewed.

  • This paper proposes an inspection robot that can operate on a single square rail. Various inspection robots have been developed to identify emergency situations in industrial environments, such as those involving fires or individuals with cardiac arrest. Because the robots must operate in wide areas and long tunnels, they are designed to move along a rail installed on the ceiling. Double rail track are typically used to ensure the stability of robot movement. However, the cost for installing a double rail track is nearly two times that for a single rail track. Moreover, it is challenging to install double rail tracks while ensuring the same curvature and interval between the two rails. Therefore, in this study, an inspection robot that operate on a single square rail track is developed. To ensure stable movement in the longitudinal and lateral directions, two passive guide parts are used, and the main active wheel is allowed to move on the upper side of the square rail. The prototype was manufactured, and experiments were performed for different robot velocities.

  • To ensure stability of continuous welded rail in extremely hot weather is important to the railway industry's goal of operational safety and maintenance. Rail temperature has direct influence on track buckling. According to climate condition, distribution of rail temperature is different. In this study, the fluctuation of rail temperature were investigated under the domestic climate condition (air temperature, humidity, insolation, etc)

  • Due to the transportability problems, long rail shall be from base rail unit, which is normally 100m for regular rail and 300m for high speed rail. After these rail units are transported from the fabricator to the site, the field weld would be performed.axial stresses in the long rail is mainly from the temperature differences at various locations the long rail. Also the gaps between each welds cause secondary axial stresses in the rail. In addition to these, re-welds the fractured rails, rail buckling, irregular rail vibration, rail twist also result innonuniform axial stresses in the rail. To obtain the rail buckling stability, the rail stresses shall be released due to the resetting of CWR. Traditionally two resetting of CWR methods have been applied, the one is rail heater and the other is rail tenser. these methods, the latter has been recommended because it has less limitation in the rail length and it is easier to minimized the force differences. But even in this method, the calculation is cumbersome and is not easy to find out the rail stress distribution itself.refined methodsxial stress resetting in the long rail is studied and this study be easily applied in the real construction. From this approach, more rational rail maintenance system can be expected.

  • This study was aimed to verify the acceptable contact force between power collector and 3rd rail type conductor rail for the Korean standardized rubber-tired AGT light rail vehicle. The power collector was designed and manufactured to satisfy the Korean standardized Specifications of the rubber-tired AGT light rail vehicle. Based on the dynamic behavior, contact force variation and interruption in the worst installation tolerance of the conductor rail, its initial contact force was set up. With rotary disk type equivalent test apparatus with circular conductor rail, the interruptions were measured. As the results, acceptable contact force was proposed to ensure power collection stability.

  • Recently, the rise of the rail temperature is accelerating further due to the global warming, and the track stability(buckling) problem result from the axial force in the continuous welded rail(CWR) have become the most important issue. This track stability threatens the security of running trains in the hot summer. In order to prevent the track buckling in the hot summer and ensure the safety of the running train, as a part of the safety control plan for KORAIL high-speed railway, the train speed restriction according to the rail temperature was introduced in 2004. However, the conceptual and theoretical background of train-speed restriction is uncertain. In this paper, the theoretical study about the reasonable train-speed restriction is performed. For this purpose, the risk-based probabilistic stability evaluation of the track buckling is applied.

  • The Korea high-speed rail, based on the French design. It also implements new concept to increase the strength of bridge deck by adding an impact factor (dynamic intensity factor) in static load. In order to assure the dynamic stability, SYSTRA and Jeseph Penzien, a professor in CEC (the US) conducted a dynamic stability review on design phase. Analyzing the review results, they developed design criteria for dynamic behavior. This study deal with operating PSC box GIRDER equipped with measurement equipment or measured data of Seoul $\∼$ Taejeon, P.S.C BOX GIRDER bridge and steel comsition bridge equipped with measurement equipment based on structual knowledge about configuration of measuring sensor, response analysis of structure when train runs was performed by using measured data of PSC box girder to directly compare with design criteria. moreover, the dynamic stability with comparison of high-speed rail construction criteria was reviewed and analyzed based on historical records.

  • In this paper, the main factors affect on the longitudinal rail force are discussed. Considering rail-bridge interaction, analytical and experimental evaluation of track behavior has been achieved. It is concluded that the horizontal ballast strength, the expansion length of the bridge span, and the stiffness of the bridge sub-structure are the significant parameters affecting the stability of the continuous welded rail (CWR) track. And, it is suggested that the ballast resistance forces should be maintained to ensure the track stability during the service.

  • Rail Route Alignment in hilly terrain is a difficult task to implement as several natural constraints poses threat to the safety and stability of the alignment. The conventional methods followed to find out the final location survey or the feasibility analysis for alignment is time taking consuming. Some times, due to inaccessibility of the terrain it becomes impossible to carry out such works. The construction works in hilly terrain, which are associated with the proposed alignment, are not same as carried out in plane areas due to a vast contrast between the two areas. Different geological structures such as faults, thrusts, synclines and anticlines are a big problem to carry out normal construction practices. Thus for a safe and stable railway route in the unstable hilly areas, it is required to carry out the feasibility analysis of the proposed alignment to assist the policy makers for a successful implementation of the alignment. In the present work Remote Sensing and GIS has been successfully used to carry out geological feasibility and slope stability analysis for rail route alignment work.
