This study investigate both the structure and characteristics of world railway market and major railway manufacturers' major business fields and their strategies to go abroad. Based on this market analysis, we study the SWOP analysis by dividing the important factors that affect railway system into strength, weakness, opportunity, threat factors, and suggest marketing strategies for advancing railway system into foreign countries.

Even though we usually analyze logistic market based on confined railway logistics, but this study would like to judge what is potential demand transferable to railway goods through accurate analysis of railway sharing rates by the analysis of origin and destination of each item in total freight transportation market. Accordingly, by analyzing each items transferable to railway, excluding items stuck to original market, this study wants to choose some major items which are expected to lasting demand and activate railway logistics plan by focusing on major items for marketing strategy.

한국 철도시스템의 해외진출을 위한 효과적 전략을 모색함에 있어 시장유형론적 접근이 필수적이다. 시장선택을 통하여 우선순위 시장을 선별하고 시장세분화를 통하여 각 하위시장의 특성에 적합한 마케팅 전략을 설계하여야 한다. 이를 위하여 본 연구는 글로벌 철도공급시장에 적합한 시장유망도 지표체계와 시장세분화 방안을 제시하였다. 아울러 시장유형론적 관점에서 최근 한국의 주요 철도기업이 추진하고 있는 수출유망 프로젝트를 분석하고 철도시스템 수출을 위한 전략적 시사점을 도출하였다.

Successful market adoption of rail freight transport innovations that might offer opportunities for market share increase is the focus of this paper. Firstly, seen from a theoretical point of view, it is not incremental innovations but radical organizational and transformation innovations that are likely to increase the market share of rail freight transport. Secondly, the particular inovations that offer some success potential for market adoption are: dedicated infrastructure, the fixed timetable, locomotive upgrades, and INTERFACE. Thirdly, unfortunately, the opportunities to increase the market share of rail freight transport appear to be limited.

Studied was a strategic plan for the Korean High-Speed Train system to penetrate the Chinese railway market in exchange of the technology of KHST. Firstly, taken was a glance at Chinese Government plans to extend total length of his railway lines and to construct the Beijing~Shanghai high-speed railway line. Then, disparity of railway technology in Korea and China was reviewed. From the review, SWOT Analysis were carried out to penetrate the foreign markets. Countermeasures to cope with SWOT were also considered. Strategical governmental supports and the establishment of the special organization to be in charge of penetration of KHST into foreign markets were proposed. Finally, also proposed was the transfer of KHST technology to Chinese counterparts in exchange of tangible benefits for Korean side. The benefits may include (1) adoption of KHST as the type of rolling stock for the Beijing~Shanghai line, (2) guarantee of participation in the project and royalty for the KHST technology used for the future high-speed railway line construction, (3) prior written approval and partnership when making its way to third country, and (4) participation of Korean construction companies in Chinese railway construction project, etc. Adoption of KHST in China indeed gives chance to integrate the high-speed railway network after reunification of Korean peninsular, and enhance the economic ties between two countries.

After the establishment of 'Staggers' Rail Legislation' in 1980, which established an atmosphere of free competition in rail freight transportation market, freight railway in America became larger and the proportion of freight railway in the market increased. In 2008, it took up 43% of the transportation market based on tonne/mile unit and the productivity of freight rail increased. On the other hand, in the case of Korea, the competing atmosphere is being set up under the influences of the renovation of the rail transportation industry in 2004. However, to make the rail transportation market more active and become more advanced, a lot of efforts are required to build a stronger foundation of free competition atmosphere. In this paper, we have deducted the political implications on the establishment of strengthened competition in Korean rail transportation industry from reviewing what kind of changes the rail transportation market in America went through and how it was developed. In this case, we have focused on the changes in industrial trend towards the restriction policy. Also influences of the deregulation policy after 1980 on the enhanced market efficiency were reviews.

본 연구는 지속적으로 증대되고 있는 해외철도 시장을 면밀히 분석하여 각 사업의 특성을 분석하고 국내 철도산업이 해외 철도시장에 적극적으로 진출 할 수 있는 방안을 제시하였다. 국내에 최근 5년간 소개된 독립적인 983개의 해외철도사업에 대한 발주특성을 분석하였으며, 분석의 효율성과 일관성을 높이기 위하여 하나의 분류체계를 수립하고 각 사업정보를 분류항목에 따라 분석하고 구성 비율을 평가하였다. 분석결과 초기 신규성 사업의 참여 또는 진입 없이 후속 발주업의 참여는 저가수주로 귀결될 가능성이 높으므로, 초기 신규성 사업의 주도적 진출과 수행을 통하여 한국 시스템과 동질화된 시스템 설계를 통하여 한국산업계가 고부가가치 철도사업에 진입기반을 구축할 수 있을 것이다.

The creation of a single European rail transport market it is important to increase confidence between the actors on the market and between member states who shall ensure that railway safety is generally maintained and, where reasonably practicable, continuously improved. For this purpose the European railway safety directive introduces a mechanism to adopt a Common Safety Targets (CST) expressed in risk acceptance criteria for individuals and for society. This paper focuses on the apportionment of safety targets for European railway system. We develop a generic approach based on the Functional Hazard Analysis (FHA), to analyse the safety of railway systems for a unified European network and to comply with the CSTs required by the European railway Safety Directive. We suggest to combine the FHA technique with the functional railway architecture to allocate the safety targets to the railway functions.

The railway industry of each country has variant technical standards and regulations unlike other industries. For this reason, it is necessary to investigate the domestic technical standards and regulations and to prepare the countermeasure of the variance for advancing the korean high-speed railroad system into foreign market. This study was designed to investigate the railway design/manufacturing, examination/inspection and safety of domestic and foreign countries subject to a world market for advancing the korean high-speed railroad system into a foreign market. Because the reliance of a railroad system is a prerequisite for the safety of railroads, it is very important to obtain the reliance data, which is based on the RMS analysis of foreign countries subject to a world market.
