  • If the sea is narrowband, the Rayleigh distribution introduced by Longuet-Higgins can be used for the individual wave height distribution. However the Rayleigh distribution over-predicts the probability of high waves. Longuet-Higgins introduced alternative form of the Rayleigh distribution with an empirical constant. The wave height distribution can be fitted well by one parameter Rayleigh distribution with a proper choice of the empirical constant. The empirical constant is the ratio of the significant wave height based the time domain analysis and the spectral analysis. Here we examine wave data which contain extreme waves. Once again we confirmed that extreme wave height distribution can be modelled well by a modified Rayleigh distribution.

  • We define a skew-symmetric double Rayleigh distribution by a symmetric double Rayleigh distribution, and derive an approximate maximum likelihood estimator(AML) and a moment estimator(MME) of a skewed parameter in a skew-symmetric double Rayleigh distribution, and hence compare simulated mean squared errors of those two estimators. We also compare simulated mean squared errors of two proposed estimators of reliability in two independent skew-symmetric double Rayleigh distributions.

  • Statistical distributions are very useful in describing wind speed characteristics and in predicting wind power potential of a specified region. Although the Weibull distribution is the most popular one in wind energy literature, it does not seem to be able to perfectly fit all the investigated wind speed data in nature. Thus, many studies are still being conducted to find flexible distribution for modelling wind speed data. In this study, we propose a new Odd-Burr Rayleigh distribution for wind speed characterization. The Odd-Burr Rayleigh distribution with two shape parameters is flexible enough to model different shapes of wind speed data and thus it can be an alternative wind speed distribution for the assessment of wind energy potential. Therefore, suitability of the Odd-Burr Rayleigh distribution is investigated on real wind speed data taken from different regions in the South Africa. Numerical results of the conducted analysis confirm that the new Odd-Burr Rayleigh distribution is suitable for modelling most of the considered real wind speed cases and it also can be used for predicting wind power.

  • In this study, after applying the finite failure NHPP Rayleigh distribution model and NHPP Inverse Rayleigh distribution model which are widely used in the field of software reliability to the software development cost model, the attributes of development cost and optimal release time were compared and analyzed. To analyze the attributes of software development cost, software failure time data was used, parametric estimation was applied to the maximum likelihood estimation method, and nonlinear equations were calculated using the bisection method. As a result, it was confirmed that Rayleigh model is relatively superior to Inverse Rayleigh model because software development cost is relatively low and software release time is also fast. Through this study, the development cost attributes of the Rayleigh model and the Inverse Rayleigh model without the existing research examples were newly analyzed. In addition, we expect that software developers will be able to use this study as a basic guideline for exploring software reliability improvement method and development cost attributes.

  • Parametric estimation of a truncated point in a right truncated Rayleigh distribution will be considered. The MLE, a bias reduced estimator and the ordinary jackknife estimator of the truncated point in the right truncated Rayleigh distribution will be compared by mean square errors. And proposed estimators of the reliability in the right truncated Rayleigh distribution will be compared by their mean squared errors.

  • The inverse Rayleigh model distribution and Rayleigh distribution model were widely used in the field of reliability station. In this paper applied using the finite failure NHPP models in order to growth model. In other words, a large change in the course of the software is modified, and the occurrence of defects is almost inevitable reality. Finite failure NHPP software reliability models can have, in the literature, exhibit either constant, monotonic increasing or monotonic decreasing failure occurrence rates per fault. In this paper, proposes the inverse Rayleigh and Rayleigh software reliability growth model, which made out efficiency application for software reliability. Algorithm to estimate the parameters used to maximum likelihood estimator and bisection method, model selection based on mean square error (MSE) and coefficient of determination($R^2$), for the sake of efficient model, were employed. In order to insurance for the reliability of data, Laplace trend test was employed. In many aspects, Rayleigh distribution model is more efficient than the reverse-Rayleigh distribution model was proved. From this paper, software developers have to consider the growth model by prior knowledge of the software to identify failure modes which can helped.

  • In this paper time series wave data measured continuously for 24 hours during a storm in Yura Sea Area are used to investigate statistical characteristics of nonlinear waves. The exceedance probability of wave height is compared using the Rayleigh distribution and the Edgeworth-Rayleigh (ER) distribution. Wave data which show stationary state for 10 hours contain 4600 waves approximately. The Gram-Chalier distribution fits the probability of wave elevation better than the Gaussian distribution. The Rayleigh ($H_{rms}$) distribution follows the exceedance probability of wave height in general and predicts the probability of freak waves well. The ER distribution overpredicts the exceedance probability of wave heights and the occurrence of freak waves. If wave data measured for 30 minute period which contains 250 waves are used, the ER distribution can predict the occurrence probability of freak waves well. But it overpredicts the probability of overall wave height If no freak wave occurs, the Rayleigh ($H_{rms}$) distribution agrees well with wave height distribution for the most of wave height ranges. The wave height distribution of freak waves of which height are less than 10 m shows similar tendency compared with freak waves greater than 10 m. The value of $H_{max}/H_{1/3}$ is related to the kurtosis of wave elevation. It seems that there exists threshold value of the kurtosis for the occurrence of freak waves.

  • This paper deals with the estimation based on progressive Type-II censored samples from the double Rayleigh distribution. We derive some estimators of the location and scale parameters of the double Rayleigh distribution based on progressive Type-II censored samples. We compare the proposed estimators in the sense of the mean squared error for various censored samples.

  • In this paper, we shall propose the AMLEs of the scale parameter and the location parameter in the two-parameter Rayleigh distribution based on progressive Type-II censored samples when one parameter is known. We also propose the AMLEs of the two parameters in the Rayleigh distribution based on progressive Type-II censored samples when two parameters are unknown. We simulate the mean squared errors of the proposed estimators through Monte Carlo simulation for various censoring schemes.
