A Study on Synchronous Rectification of Push-Pull Converter for Efficiency Improvement (효율개선을 위한 Push-Pull Converter의 동기정류에 관한 연구)

  • This paper presents a method of synchronous rectifier(SR) for improving the efficiency in DC/DC converter. The proposed method is used push-pull topology on primary as a single winding self driven synchronous rectification(SWSDSR). Specially, this method can improve efficiency to turn on SR switch during dead time. Finally, the simulation and experimental results will be given to show comparison and analysis on the efficiency between self driven synchronous rectification(SDSR) and SWSDSR method.

Electroluminescence Characteristics of OLED by Full-Wave Rectification Alternating Current Driving Method (전파 정류 교류 구동 방식에 의한 OLED의 전계발광 특성)

  • Single OLED and tandem OLED was manufactured to analyze the electroluminescence characteristics of DC driving, AC driving, and full-wave rectification driving. The threshold voltage of OLED was the highest in DC driving, and the lowest in full-wave rectification driving due to an improvement of current injection characteristics. The luminance at a driving voltage lower than 10.5 V (8,534 cd/m2) of single OLED and 20 V (7,377 cd/m2) of a tandem OLED showed that the full-wave rectification drive is higher than that of DC drive. The luminous efficiency of OLED is higher in full-wave rectification driving than in DC driving at low voltage, but decrease at high voltage. The full-wave rectification power source may obtain higher current density, higher luminance, and higher current efficiency than the AC power source. In addition, it was confirmed that the characteristics of AC driving and full-wave rectification driving can be predicted from DC driving characteristics by comparing the measured values and calculated values of AC driving and full-wave rectification driving emission characteristics. From the above results, it can be seen that OLED lighting with improved electroluminescence characteristics compared to DC driving is possible using full-wave rectification driving and tandem OLED.

  • Falling film rectification involves simultaneous heat and mass transfer between vapor and liquid interface. In the present work, the adiabatic rectification process of ammonia-water vapor on the vertical plate was investigated. The continuity, momentum, energy and diffusion equations for the solution film and vapor mixture were formulated in integral forms and solved numerically. The model could predict the film thickness, the pressure gradient, and the mass transfer rate. The effects of Reynolds number and ammonia concentration of solution and vapor mixture, rectifier length, and the enhancement of mass transfer in each phases were investigated. The stripping of water in vapor mixture occurred new the entrance of ammonia solution, which imposed the proper size of an adiabatic rectifier. Rectifier efficiency increased as film Reynolds number increased and as vapor mixture Reynolds number decreased. The improvement of rectifier efficiency was significant with the enhancement of mass transfer in falling film.

A Study on the Test of Efficiency of the Diagnostic X-ray Equipment according to Their Rectifications (진단용 X선장치의 성능 실태 조사연구)

  • For the efficient management of the diagnostic x-ray equipment, a nation-wide inspection of hospitals was performed by an inspection institute in Taejon in the first half of 1997. Among those hospitals inspected, 28 equipments(machines) which were over 500 mA were randomly selected according to their characteristics : 7 condenser type x-ray equipments, 7 three control phase of full wave rectification of type remote control x-ray equipments, 7 single phase of full wave rectification type for general radiography equipments, and 7 single phase of full wave rectification type of R/F equipments. We obtained the following results by conducting the experiment based on the efficiency of the equipments mentioned above. 1) When the equipments are analyzed, 2 out of 7 single phase of full wave rectification type of general radiography equipments(28.6%), 3 out of 7 single phase of full wave rectification type of R/F equipments(42.9%), 5 out of 7 three phase of full wave rectification type remote of control x-ray equipments(71.4%), and 4 out of 7 condenser type of x-ray equipments(57.1%) showed suitability. It proves the superiority of the three phase of full wave rectification type of remote control x-ray equipments. 2) From the overall analysis, only about 50% of the equipments(suitability of 14 out of 28) maintain the efficient management. Therefore, maintenance management of equipments is more necessary. If the efficiency of the x-ray equipment is uniformly maintained and managed to prevent the breakdown(trouble) beforehand especially through the continuous inspection of tube voltage, tube current, exposure time, and collimator, the financial loss and exposure dose to the patient, as well as the workers engaged in radiation, can be reduced for better medical service.

  • A generator-GAX combined rectification system of an ammonia absorption heat pump was investigated to get the optimum design values. The mass and heat transfer phenomena of the rectification system were analysed. The number of column plates, equilibrium temperature of solution on each plate and flow rates of solution and vapor generated were predicted. The characteristics of mass and heat transfer of the generator-GAX combined rectification system, i.e. concentration difference of leaving solution and vapor on each column plate, were found to be mainly governed by the pressure of generator, reflex ratio and temperature difference of analyser coolant. The number of rectification column plates for each different pressure in generator was obtained. The optimum locations for installing the feeder from solution-cooled absorber and GAX desorber in generator were predicted. The improvement of COP was followed by the increase of the rectifier efficiency and the number of column plate, and the decrease of reflex ratio.

  • The clamp mode (CM) forward zero voltage switching multi resonant converter (ZVS-MPC) with self-driven synchronous rectifier is studied. The loss at the synchronous rectification stage of the converter is analyzed using MOSFET piecewise linear model and is compared with the loss at the conventional schottky diode rectification stage of th econverter. From the results of the analysis, it is known that the use fo MOSFETs as a synchronous rectifier reduces the loss at the rectification stage overthe whole load range comparing the use of schottky diodes as a conventional rectifier in the converter. In order to verify the validit of the analysis, we have built a 33W(3.3V/10A) CM forward ZVS-MRC with self-driven synchronous rectifier, in which switching frequency is 1MHz, and tested. FRom the experimental results, it is known that the synchronous rectification achieved about 1W improvement in the loss at the rectification stage and about 3% in the efficiency at the converter as compared with the conventional schottky diode rectification.

  • The high-voltage X-ray generator recently used is very popular, because that can be miniaturized, increased in generating efficiency, elaborated in output control. All these features are available with high-frequency made by using an inverter, the fast switching semiconductor device. In this paper to identify the differences among types of rectification, we compared output ripple with full-wave rectification and dual-voltage rectification methods.

  • The MOSFET synchronous rectification in the Active-Clamp Forward converter is presented. The Active-Clamp Forward converter has little dead time during the off time of the main switch and it is suitable for the MOSFET synchronous rectification comparing to the other Forward converter topologics. Using the MOSFET synchronous rectification on the Active-Clamp Forward converter with 3.3[V] output and 500[kHz] switching frequency, the improvement of efficiency is achieved comparing with the conventional Schottky barrier diode rectification.
