  • For the calculation of transonic laminar relative flow fields on the axisymmetric H-S and B-B stream surfaces in turbomachinery, a finite volume method developed in Part (I) is extended. Energy equation is replaced for simplicity by the condition of constant rothalpy throughout the flow fields. For axisymmetric H-S flow the circumferential componets of absolute velocity are given in advance so that this component of momentum equations can be neglected. Some numerical results show good agreement with experimental data.

  • Kinematic characteristics of a heavy rainfall event occurred in Changma front are analyzed using synoptic weather charts, satellite imagery and NCEP(National Centers for Environmental Prediction) / NCAR(National Centers for Atmospheric Research) reanalysis data. The heavy rainfall is accompanied with mesoscale rain clouds developing over the Southwest region of Korea during the period from 0300 LST to 2100 LST 25 June 2006. The surface cyclone in the Changma front is generated and developed rapidly when it meets following vertical conditions: The maximum value of relative vorticity is appeared at 700 hPa and is extended gradually near the surface. It is thought that the vertical structure of relative vorticity is closely related with the descent of strong wind zone exceeding $10ms^{-1}$. The jet core at 200 hPa is shifted southward and extended downward and the low-level jet stream associated with upper-level jet stream appeared at 850 hPa. Kinematic features of heavy rainfall system at cyclone-generating point are as follows: In the generating stage of cyclone, the relative vorticity below 850 hPa increased and the convergence below 850 hPa and the divergence at 400 hPa are intensified by southward movement of jet core at 200 hPa. The heavy rainfall system seems to locate to the south of the exit region of upper-level jet streak; In the developing stage of cyclone, the relative vorticity below 850 hPa and the convergence near surface are further strengthened and upward vertical velocity between 850 hPa and 200 hPa is increased.

  • Relative bow-motions of a ship in wave are investigated by using linear theory. The relative displacement is assumed to be composed of incident wave elevation, motion response, dynamic swell-up and ship wave elevation. Radiation problem is solved by distributing sources on the hull surface and wave elevation in a uniform stream is obtained by integrating Havelock's function with centerplane source distributions. Relative displacements for I.T.T.C. S7-175 model are calculated. Dynamic swell-ups make the relative displacement larger except small heading angles. Amplitudes of relative motion on weather-side are generally larger than those on lee-side. Ship wave elevations in a uniform stream also give considerable contributions and our calculations are verified to be reasonable in comparison with experimental results.

  • HEC-RAS model is used for estimation of rating-curve of Musung in Wi stream. Discharge is computed from stage estimated by HEC-RAS model, is compared with the discharge of water surface slope method. The relative deviation of observed and computed discharge is 5.37%, and shows as a good results. A rating-curve by HEC-RAS model shows better results than by water surface slope method.

  • The increase of the solar reradiation from urban areas relative to suburban due to urbanization heats up the air temperature in urban areas and this is called the urban heat island (UHI) effect. This UHI effect has a positive relationship with the degree of urbanization. Through the studies on UHI using the satellite imagery, the effect of the surface heat radiation was observed by verifying the relationship between the air temperature and the land cover types (surface materials such as urban, vegetation, etc.). In this study, however, the surface temperature distribution was studied in terms of land use types for Seoul. Using land use types, the surface temperature in urban areas such as residential, industrial, and commercial areas in Yeongdeungpo, highly packed with industrial and residential buildings, was maximum $6^{\circ}C$ higher than in the bare ground, which indicated that the surface temperature reflected the pattern of the human-consumed energy on the areas and showed that one of the important causes influencing the air temperature except the surface heat reradiation by the sun is the anthropogenic heat. Also, the effect due to the restoration of the Chunggae stream on UHI was investigated. The average surface temperature for the Chunggae stream was reduced about $0.4^{\circ}C$ after restoration. Considering that each satellite image pixel includes mixture of several materials such as concrete and asphalt, the average surface temperature might be much lower locally reducing UHI near the stream.

  • Zooplankton are primary consumers in the food web connecting primary producers and predators such as small fish, playing an important role in energy transfer in aquatic ecosystems. Therefore, it is essential to understand the zooplankton community structure in material cycle and energy flow in aquatic ecosystems. Zooplankton in large rivers with a low flow rate would distribute vertically as in lakes. In this study, we collected zooplankton by surface water filtration and vertical haul method with 64 ㎛-mesh plankton net at three stations (ND-1, ND-2, ND-3) in Nakdong River fortnightly from June 2018 to December 2019. Species composition and individual densities were analyzed. All three stations showed differences in relative abundance of zooplankton groups between surface water and vertical integrated water, with the largest difference shown in the deepest station, ND-2. In vertically integrated water at ND-2, the relative abundance of rotifera was low by a maximum of 25% and that of cladocera was high by a maximum of 22% compared to surface water samples. These results indicate that surface water filtration method is not enough to represent the community structure of zooplankton compared to the vertical haul method in large rivers.

  • This study is for extent of polluted area by acid mine drainage from the Daeseong coal mine, Keumsan. Black shales of the Changri Formation containing the Daeseong coal mine are geochemically similar to those from the North America as well as Europe. Comparing with geochemical compositions and relative ratios, coal bearing and non-coal bearing soils are similar to the stream sediments influenced and not influnced by the acid mine drainage, respectively. These characteristics suggest that acidification of the soils and of the stream sediments are related to the the coal bearing black shale. Soil waters beneath the coal bearing soil have low pH and high cation contents than those beneath non-coal bearing soil, suggestive of extractions of cations with increasing oxidizations within the soils. Surface waters show that those influenced by the acid mine drainage are low pH, and have high $SO_4{^{2-}}$, $Mg^{2+}$, $Fe^{2+}$, Mn and slightly lower DO, suggesting that heavy pollutions have been progressed in these area. Geochemical comparisons between the polluted surface water and adjacent black shales suggest that pollutions of the surface water are related to the black shales.

  • We calculated dose rate using radiative transfer equations to consider radiative processes distinctly. The dose rate at Pohang(36°02'N, 129°23'E) was calculated using measured ozone and meteorological data and two-stream approximations(quadrature, Eddington, delta Eddington, PIFM(practical improved flux method), discrete ordinate, delta discrete ordinate) are used in solving equation. The purpose of this study is to determine the most compatible radiative transfer approximation for simulating the radiative and photochemical processes of atmosphere through comparision between calculated and measured values. Dose rate of the biologically effective irradiance in the region 0.28-0.32 U m showed the highest value when quadrature and Eddington was used and lower value on condition that delta scaling was applied. Correlation coefficient between dose rate at surface using radiation transfer equation and measured UV-B at Pohang was 0.78, 0.79 and 0.81 when delta Eddington, PIFM and delta discrete ordinate were used. Also, in case of above approximations were used, MBE(Mean Bias Error) was within -0.3MED/30min and RMBE(Relative Mean Bias Error) was below 10% between 1200 LST and 1400 LST Approximations which are compatible in estimating radiative process are delta Eddington, PIFM and delta discrete ordinate. Especially, in case that radiative process is considered more detail, delta discrete ordinate increased the number of stream is proper.

  • Removal of water contents in a gas is needed in industrial field of gas processing related on energy production/conversion, and environmental treatment. Inertial separators are economic devices for separating droplets from the gas stream. For accurate understanding of removal process in a curved vane mist eliminator, a numerical model including turbulent dispersion, evaporation and condensation of water vapor at surface of droplets is required. A two-stage curved vane mist eliminator has been modeled, and fluid flow of mixture of air and water vapor and droplet trajectories were solved simultaneously with taking into account two-way coupling. Removal efficiency of droplets with various inlet condition of relative humidities (RH, 40%, 90%, and 100%) were compared. As RH increased, the effect of evaporation decreased and inertial separation efficiencies of droplets obtained increased especially for droplets of diameter below 10 micrometers.

  • The purpose of this study is to provide essential data necessary to assess ecological flow requirements by understanding habitat conditions for fish species through monitoring an ecological environment in the Korea stream (Dal Stream) and building related database. On-site surveys were conducted for identifying ecological and habitat conditions at the four monitoring sites. Fish sampling was carried out at the selected four sites (St.) during the period ranging from September, 2008 to September, 2009. At the four sampling sites, we measured water surface elevation, depth and velocity at the cross-sections. Optimal Ecological Flowrates (OEFs) were estimated using the Habitat Suitability Index (HSI) established for four fish species Zacco koreanus (St.1), Pungtungia herzi (St.2), Coreoleuciscus splendidus (St.3), and Zacco platypus (St.4) selected as icon species using the Physical HABitat SIMulation system (PHABSIM). Eighteen species (56.3%) including Odontobutis interrupta, Coreoperca herzi and C. splendidus were found endemic out of the 32 species in eight families sampled during this study period. The endangered species was collected Acheilognathus signifier, Pseudopungtungia tenuicorpa and Gobiobotia macrocephala, and this relative abundance was 9.4%. The most frequently found one was Z. platypus (31.3%) followed by C. splendidus (17.6%) and Z. koreanus (15.7%). The estimated IBI values ranged from 27.3 to 34.3 with average being 30.3 out of 50, rendering the site ecologically poor to fair health conditions. For C. splendidus (St.3), the dominant fish species in the stream, the favored habitat conditions were estimated to be 0.3-0.5 m for water depth, 0.4-0.7 m/s for flow velocity and sand-cobbles for substrate size, respectively. An OEFs of 8.5 m3/s was recommended for the representative fish species at the St.3.
