  • When modeling error is large of plant is time-varying, it is hard to obtain good robust performance and robust stability by conventional contorl methods. Here, we need to design a robust controller bearing modeling error. In this paper, based on recently developed Time Delay Control(TDC) and Disturbance Observer the output feedback Robust Disturbance Observer(RDO), which is easily combined with general linear control, is proposed. Proposed RDO is derived from extending the main idea of Disturbance Observer to multi-input multi-output linear system. RDO solves robust stability problem of Disturbance Observer and has the robust performance same as nominal performance. RDO controlled dual stage positioning system shows excellent robust performance.

  • In this paper, we propose a robust control technique against parameter uncertainties as well as external disturbances. It is robust control scheme using discrete-time state space disturbance observer. It does not require disturbance modeling, plant inverse modeling and/or Q filter. In frequency domain, its performance is evaluated in terms of sensitivity and complementary sensitivity as well as gain and phase margin. Finally we discuss design criterion of state space disturbance observer considering its performance in frequency domain.

  • A control approach for the robust position control of induction motors based on the binary disturbance observer is described. The conventional binary disturbance observer is used to remove the chattering problem of a sliding mode disturbance observer. However, the steady state error may exist in the conventional binary disturbance observer because it estimates external disturbance with a constant boundary layer. In order to overcome this problem, new binary disturbance observer with an integral augmented switching hyperplane is proposed. The robustness is achieved, and the continuous control is realized by employing the proposed observer without the chattering problem and the steady state error. The effectiveness of the proposed observer is confirmed by the comparative experimental results.

  • A controller is proposed for the robust adaptive backstepping control of a class of uncertain nonlinear systems using nonlinear disturbance observer (NDO). The NDO is applied to estimate the time-varying lumped disturbance in each step, but a disturbance observer error does not converge to zero since the derivative of lumped disturbance is not zero. Then the fuzzy neural network (FNN) is presented to estimate the disturbance observer error such that the outputs of the system are proved to converge to a small neighborhood of the desired trajectory. The proposed control scheme guarantees that all the signals in the closed-loop are semiglobally uniformly ultimately bounded on the basis of the Lyapunov theorem. Simulation results are presented to illustrate the effectiveness and the applicability of the approaches proposed.

  • This paper presents a robust reduced order state observer for a class of Lipschitz nonlinear systems with external disturbance. Sufficient conditions on the existence of the proposed observer are characterized by linear matrix inequalities. It is also shown that the proposed observer design can reduce the effect on the estimation error of external disturbance up to the prescribed level. Finally, a numerical example is provided to verify the proposed design method.

  • A novel robust $H_{\infty}$ switching tracking control design method with disturbance observer is proposed for the near space interceptor (NSI) with aerodynamic fins and reaction jets. Initially, the flight envelop of the NSI is divided into small subregions, and a slow-fast loop polytopic linear parameter varying (LPV) model is proposed, to approximate the nonlinear dynamic of the NSI, based on the Jacobian linearization and Tensor-Product (T-P) model transformation approach. A disturbance observer is then constructed, to estimate the modeled disturbance. Subsequently, based on the descriptor system method, a robust switching controller is developed, to ensure that the closed-loop descriptor system is stable with a desired $H_{\infty}$ disturbance attenuation level. Furthermore, the outcome of the proposed switching tracking control problem is formulated as a set of linear matrix inequalities (LMIs). Finally, simulation results demonstrate the effectiveness of the proposed design method.

  • Using a sliding mode controller and observer techniques, this paper presents a robust current controller for a DC motor in the presence of parametric uncertainties. One of the most important issues in the practical application of sliding mode schemes is the chattering phenomenon caused by switching actions. This paper presents a novel sliding mode controller that incorporates an integral control with a sliding mode disturbance observer to attenuate the chattering by reducing the controller/observer switching gains. The proposed sliding mode disturbance observer is designed to estimate a relatively slow varying signal in the equivalent lumped disturbance owing to system uncertainties. Combining the estimated uncertainty with the sliding mode control input, the proposed controller can achieve the control objective by using the relatively low gain of the controller. The proposed disturbance observer does not include the switching control input of the baseline sliding mode controller to reduce the observer switching gain. In the proposed approach, the integral sliding mode control is used to improve the steady state control performance. Comparative computer simulations are carried out to demonstrate the performance of the proposed method. Through the simulation results, the proposed controller realizes the robust performance with reduced current ripples.

  • In this paper, a novel disturbance observer is proposed in order to regulate the disturbance in motor systems. The proposed observer does not require the implementation of ideal derivative of the state since the inverse of the nominal model is not used in the design of the observer. The transfer gain from a disturbance to the output of the disturbance observer is one. So, there is no time-delay in the response due to the dynamics of the observer.

  • The disturbance observer (DOB) controller has been widely used in various industrial applications since it is capable of achieving robust stability and disturbance rejection. In this paper, we study the effect of Q-filter on disturbance observer controller for Electro-Magnetic suspension (EMS) systems. We consider three Q-filters and analyze their effects on the robust stability against parameter uncertainties due to mass variation. Moreover, we investigate the influence of sensor noise for three Q-filters. According to our study, robust stability improves as the order of Q-filter decreases. On the other hand, the larger the order of Q-filter, the more the effect of sensor noise can be removed.

  • A digital tracking controller is proposed for micro electrostatic actuator with input nonlinearity, where disturbance observer is utilized in cooperation with inverse function. Generally the disturbance observer is announced to be robust to modeling uncertainty, and external disturbance. But, when the nonlinearity exists in the systems, the disturbance observer may not directly be applied to that system, because the nonlinearity may destabilize the overall system. Therefore, first, we linearize the nonlinear input characteristics of micro electrostatic actuator by the use of inverse function. Secondly, we apply disturbance observer to approximately linearized system for eliminating the residuals of nonlinearity and the modeling uncertainty. Then, we get the good properties of the disturbance rejection as well as the robustness due to the own nature of disturbance observer. In this case, we propose a sufficient condition for the robust stability of overall systems. Furthermore, we discuss the problem that may be exposed when disturbance observer is applied to the internally stable system with saturation, and analyze two methods to overcome input saturation problem in the sense of internal stability. Simulations have been carried out to show the effectiveness of the proposed controller.
