현재까지 다양한 축소기법이 개발되었으며, 대표적인 모형으로는 SDSM(Statistical Down-Scaling Model)과 LARS-WG(The Long Ashton Research Station Weather Generator)이 있다. CCCMA(Canadian Centre for Climate Modeling and Analysis)에서 일 단위로 모의한 CGCM3 A2 시나리오를 기반으로 우포늪의 강우 및 온도시나리오를 구축하였다.

  • Low-cost commodity SMP(Symmetric Multiprocessor) is widely used as a node of cluster system. In this paper, we implement and evaluate the performance of SDSM system for SMP clusters. Our SDSM system provides HLRC(Home-based Lazy Release Consistency) memory consistency model. Our protocol utilize shared memory within same SMP node, so that page fetch and message passing through network can be reduced. It is implemented on 8 node of 2-way Pentium-III SMP interconnected with 100Mbps Fast Ethernet, and uses TCP/IP for transport/network layer protocol. The experiment with eight applications shows that our SMP protocol achieves maximum 33% speedup improvement and 13%-52% reduction of page fetch compared with uniprocessor protocol.

  • This study developed an integrated approach to climate change and urbanization impact assessment by linking models of SDSM (statistical downscaling model), HSPF (hydrological simulation program?Fortran) and ICM (impervious cover model). A case study of the Anyangcheon watershed illustrated how the proposed framework can be used to analyze the impacts of climate change and urbanization in terms of flood control, water security and water quality. The evaluation criteria were the variations of flow and pollutant concentration duration curves. In this study, nine scenarios including three climate (present condition, A1B and A2) and three urbanization scenarios were analyzed using HSPF model. As a result, climate change is a large influence on the flowrate and the urbanization affects the pollutant concentration. Therefore, the impacts of both climate change and urbanization must be included into the watershed management and water resources planning for sustainable development.

  • This study aims to develop the Flood Vulnerability Index (FVI) and apply it to the Bukhan River Basin. A1B and A2 scenarios of CGCM3 of IPCC were adopted and SDSM (Statistical Downscaling Model) was used to downscale the original data to the daily data. Driver-Presure-State-Impact-Response (DPSIR) model was introduced to select all appropriate indicators for FVI and the daily rainfall-runoff model was simulated using HSPF (Hydrological Simulation Program-Fortran). Since FIV proposed in this study has a capability to quantify the potential flood vulnerability considering both present and future climate conditions, it is expected to be used for the comprehensive water resources and environmental planning.

  • Background: Underground mines have several hazards that could lead to serious consequences if they come into effect. Acquiring, evaluating, and using the real-time data from the atmospheric monitoring system and miner's positional information is crucial in deciding the best course of action. Methods: A graphical user interface-based software is developed that uses an AutoCAD-based mine map, real-time atmospheric monitoring system, and miners' positional information to guide on the shortest route to mine exit and other locations within the mine, including the refuge chamber. Several algorithms are implemented to enhance the visualization of the program and guide the miners through the shortest routes. The information relayed by the sensors and communicated by other personnel are collected, evaluated, and used by the program in proposing the best course of action. Results: The program was evaluated using two case studies involving rescue relating to elevated carbon monoxide levels and increased temperature simulating fire scenarios. The program proposed the shortest path from the miner's current location to the exit of the mine, nearest refuge chamber, and the phone location. The real-time sensor information relayed by all the sensors was collected in a comma-separated value file. Conclusion: This program presents an important tool that aggregates information relayed by sensors to propose the best rescue strategy. The visualization capability of the program allows the operator to observe all the information on a screen and monitor the rescue in real time. This program permits the incorporation of additional sensors and algorithms to further customize the tool.

  • This study derived the effectiveness analysis results of construction of wastewater treatment plant under climate change scenarios. Canadian Global Coupled Model (CGCM3) was used and A1B and A2 of Special Report on Emission Scenario (SRES) were selected. Regional climate change data for this application were downscaled by using Statistical Downscaling Model (SDSM) and the flow and BOD concentration durations were obtained by using Hydrological Simulation Program - Fortran (HSPF). The criteria for low flow and water quality were chosen as $Q_{99}$, $Q_{95}$, $Q_{90}$ and $C_{30}$, $C_{10}$, $C_1$. The numbers of days to satisfy the instreamflow requirements and target BOD concentration were also added to the criteria for comparison. As a results, small wastewater treatment plant improved the water cycle due to the increase of low flow and the decrease of BOD concentration. But climate change affected the reduction of effectiveness significantly. Especially in case of construction of small waste water treatment plant in the upstream region, it is necessary to take climate change impact into consideration since it is usually related to the low flow and the water quality of the stream.

  • This study derived the analysis results of alternatives for integrated watershed management under urbanization and climate change scenarios. Climate change and urbanization scenarios were obtained by using SDSM (Statistical Downscaling Method) model and ICM (Impervious Cover Model), respectively. Alternatives for the Anyangcheon watershed are reuse of wastewater treatment plant effluent, and redevelopment of existing reservoir. Flow and BOD concentration duration curves were derived by using HSPF (Hydrological Simulation Program - Fortran) model. As a result, low flow ($Q_{99},\;Q_{95},\;Q_{90}$) and BOD concentration ($Q_{10},\;Q_5,\;Q_1$) were very sensitive to the alternatives comparing to high flow($C_{30},\;C_{10},\;C_1$). Although urbanization makes the hydrological cycle distorted, effective alternatives can reduce its damage. The numbers of days to satisfy the instreamflow requirements and target water quality were also sensitive to urbanization. This result showed that the climate change and urbanization should be considered in the water resources/watershed and environmental planning.
