  • We address an issue of channel sharing among users by using a random assignment-transmitter-based (RA-T) spread-spectrum transmission scheme which permits the contention mode only in the transmission of a header while avoiding collision during the data packet transmission. Once the header being successfully received, the data packet is ready for reception by switching to one of programmable matched-filters. But the receoption may be blocked due to limited number of matched-filters so that this effect is taken into account in our analysis. For realistic analysis, we integrate detection performance at the physical level with channel activity at the link level through a markov chain model. We also consider an acknowledgement scheme to notify whether the header is correctly detcted and the data packet can be processed continuously, which aims at reducing the interference caused unwanted data transmission. It is shown that receiver complexity can be greatly reduced by choosing a proper number of RA codes at the cost of only a little throughput degradation.

  • In this paper, we investigate the effects of impulsive noise on the DS/SSMA system using TCM. We obtain the bound on the probability of bit error of the system, considering bothing impulsive noise and Rician fading, which are unavoidable in mobile communication environments. it turns out that we can achieve some coding gain by using TCM under impulsive noise environment. It is observed that the bit error probability is dominated by the background noise variance when the SNR is low and by the tail noise variance when the SNR is high.

  • It is known that conventional spread spectrum communication systems have a characteristics of non-synchronous multiple access. However, because the system has a interchannel interference, the number of channels that can communicate at the same time is small as compared with TDM. This paper presents a new synchronous sprea spectrum mulitple access communication system using a modified M sequence as a spread sequence. The system was constructed and through experiment we confirmed that a modified M sequence is superior to a M sequence in the area of interchannel interference, And we also confirmed that received waveforms are better with a increase of transmission bandwidth.

  • In this paper, a practical model for evaluating and comparing the bit error rates(BERs) due to adjacent channel mutual interference in a synchronous and asynchronous frequency hopped spread spectrum multiple access(FH-SSMA) radio communication systems is proposed. After implementing the actual FH radio in both the sychronous and asynchronous case, the BER is computed and measured. An experiment of this system in mobile tactical environments reveals that the performance in the asynchronous case is lower than that of the synchronous case. The computer simulation model is an efficient tool for designing practical FH radios in mobile communication environments.
