Development of Integrated Cost and Schedule Management System using Work Package Concept for Efficient Project Management (Work package 개념을 활용한 현장의 공정관리와 공사비 통합관리 효율화 방안)

  • Korean construction industry is facing downtime mood and need more productivity. In order to successfully accomplish the construction project with more productivity, systematic and reasonable schedule management techniques should be developed and utilized. Therefore, in this study, first, a current status of the schedule management in the construction site is identified and the improvements in the schedule management are suggested. And, the effective schedule management technique in the construction site is proposed based on the in-site experience of the researcher. In order to find solutions, survey questionnaires designed to measure the understanding of process management and measure perception of the importance of schedule management. Total twenty nine field engineers who are performing schedule management of construction project at domestic civil engineering construction site were participated in the survey, and In-depth interviews were conducted. Eleven construction sites are inspected. Finally, a simple and effective schedule management technique including from WSB classification to schedule analysis, performance management, and performance improvement is proposed based on the inspection of current status of schedule management in civil engineering construction site.

  • Since Dr. Lipke announces earned schedule management(ESM) in 2002, it has been used in project management to make up for the insufficient schedule management function of earned value management technique. However, it is difficult to accurately forecast the schedule of delayed defense research and development(R&D) projects with the ESM technique. Therefore, this paper proposes a new schedule forecasting method considering the progress of delayed work in ESM technique. This concept can also be adopted to the traditional project progress management (PPM) technique. We verify the effectiveness of the proposed concept through several defense R&D projects and prove that it is possible to supplement the schedule forecasting of the ESM and PPM technique.

  • Traditional project progress method(PPM) has been used for Korean defense research and development project management for the last 20 years. However, it is difficult to intuitively understand the performance in terms of the project schedule, because the PPM does not provide the function of managing and forecasting project schedule. Therefore, this paper proposes new schedule managing and forecasting function for the PPM using earned schedule management concept. We verify the effectiveness of the proposed functions through several defense projects and prove that it is possible to reinforce the schedule management function of the PPM.

  • All sorts of technique for schedule progress management is being developed recently, These can change and develop the abstractive concept model to a detailed model that describes the visual 3D image about a schedule plan. but, this technique is troublesome, because this requires the handwork by means of connection between 3D-CAD and scheduling Program. In this study, the process of real-time schedule progress control system using the integrated database by 3D-CAD object information system and schedule module is presented. This study present the process of a schedule progress management using UML, and the process of real-time schedule progress management using RFID system. Through this study, we want to realize the rapid generation of estimated schedule information and to simulate and analyze actual schedule information by real-time.

An Analysis of Effect and Limitation when Adapting Earned Schedule Method for Schedule Management and Estimation in Korean Defense Research & Development Projects (한국 국방 연구개발 프로젝트 일정 관리 및 예측을 위한 Earned Schedule 기법의 적용 효과와 한계 분석)

  • Earned Value Management(EVM) has been used to manage and forecast defense project schedule and cost over the last two decades in the world. However to support the lacking ability of schedule analysis in traditional EVM, earned schedule(ES) has been introduced as a tool to more accurately estimate schedule performance. This paper compares which method EVM or ES, provides more accurate schedule predictors in 32 Korean defense research and development projects. As a result of comparison, the ES method can predict the future schedule more reliably than the EVM method. We also analyze early warning function of schedule performance index considering project duration extension point. Through the analysis results, we confirm that both the EVM and the ES method lack the ability of the early warning in terms of the current schedule management criterion.

  • Previous research related to the construction schedule management has focused on construction schedule categorization, construction schedule management, and system development to manage construction schedule risks. Therefore this research present quantitively deducing method for managing construction schedule risk. Based on the investigation, this study suggested the probable risk factors and a practical management method, through interviews and discussions with experts. The quantified risks should be adapted for an individually specific projects and managed until the project is complete. To maintain the continuity of schedule risks, the schedule risk management procedures should be controlled during the performance of the construction project.

  • Recently, Several Mega project are been performing as a multi-dimensional development project in Korea, but some problem has been revealed about deficiency of the history, experience, and skill. A multi-dimensional development project require the technology which can manage mega project to its specific at the level of program management. predicting schedule and schedule management are the most important for mega project, been performing over several years. This research shows the method of predicting and planning schedule in the early stage as a pre-study on developing a technology of schedule management. First of all, it presents the development of database considering the specific of mega project that can accumulate the history of schedule and search the schedule according to the type of single and multi building. Also it suggests the method of prediction schedule by creating scenarios according to owner requirements and cash flow, affecting schedule management in the early stage, and the shortening possibility of schedule duration using CCPM theory.

  • The National Archives & Records Service of the Korea stated clearly the nature of the 'Korean Disposition Schedule' as records retention schedule which prescribe from creation to disposition of the records. With a point of this view, this study examine a definition and preparing procedures about the records retention schedule that is sub-system of the records management and present a way how understand and evaluate the 'Korean Disposition Schedule.'

  • In this paper we propose a new software project development management model incorporating quality management to schedule management. Though many efficient techniques such as code review and inspection are used to remove defects, the effect of defect removal time on project schedule hasn't been studied much. However, poor quality management has an important effect upon overall schedule and sometimes software projects fails due to it. Thus, quality management and schedule management should be considered together and we need to reflect the time to maintain software quality into the schedule management. For the proposed model we introduced "Quality Value" representing the needed time to remove software defects. We assume PSP/TSP to gather the needed data for quality value. The proposed model can be used to predict the effect of software defects on schedule in advance and to prevent schedule lag.

  • As construction projects become larger, higher and more complex, efficient use of information is increasingly more important. As a result, there is a growing demand to apply BIM data obtained in the design stage to the construction stage. In this study, we propose a BIM-based construction schedule management system in order to promote introduction and application of BIM in the construction stage. Specifically, we provided how to build BIM database to be used for construction schedule management, and proposed how to obtain progress information and enter information based on analysis of progress schedule. We also provided a system of classifying construction works for more systematic use of BIM database, a process of using BIM database in construction projects, and a step-by-step guideline on how to establish the system. The proposed construction schedule management system provides information on particular construction schedule, as well as information and progress chart on delayed parts of the work so that a change in schedule can be managed. Additionally, by linking system database with the BIM model, construction progress can be checked in 3D simulation and a delay in construction schedule can be managed. As a result, using BIM at construction sites contributes to improving project productivity.
