  • In this paper, dynamic model of 120mm self-propelled mortar is developed, and multi flexible body dynamics analysis is performed to analyze stresses occurring in the mount during mortar fire. For this, vehicle dynamic system, mortar dynamic system, and finite element mount model are proposed. The commercial program Recurdyn is used in the analysis. As a result of the analysis, the maximum stress(146.9MPa) occurred at the mount side plate. In order to analyze the validity of the analysis results, we performed strain measurement tests by selecting three major points, and the errors of results were 7.91%, 11.15%, and 18.23%, respectively. It is confirmed that the tendency of analysis and test is similar.

  • A mortar system is able to be fired more rapidly and concentratedly than other field gun systems. A mortar system can be easily manufactured because of its simple structure. It has also been supporting for the fire power of infantry because it can be carried conveniently. But a mortar system has demerits that are the limited firing range, poor accuracy and uncomfortable operability. Korean army plan to be operated rapidly and enlarge battle field in the near future. So weapon systems of Korean army must have longer firing range, automatic laying function and precision firing capability. This study suggests efficient developing concept of 120mm self-propelled mortar system through surveying the technical readiness level of current R&D and manufacturing ability.

  • For this research, the trajectory of a projectile was simulated via the multibody dynamics analysis of a self-propelled mortar. The dynamic model was composed of a mortar model and a vehicle model, and was simulated using the RecurDyn program. Interior ballistic was applied to the mortar model, and exterior ballistic was conducted by Matlab using the simulation results of the interior trajectory. Through repetitive Monte-Carlo simulations, the accuracy of the mortar was analyzed by considering variations in the aiming angle and vehicle dynamic response.

  • The research and development stage can improve the goal level of the project through systematic operation and management of systems engineering. The test evaluation tasks in the R&D process have a lot of connections with the system engineering in terms of requirement management, and the methodology for deriving the requirements when establishing the test evaluation items has been consistently required. In this paper, we propose the process of effectively establishing and using QFD (Quality Function Deployment), a tool to manage customer requirement, and drawing up HOQ (House of Quality) in the search and exploratory development stage of the self - propelled mortar project.
