  • Until now, most semantic web service discovery research has been carried out using either Web Service Modeling Ontology (WSMO) or a profile of OWL-based Web Service ontology (OWL-S). However, such efforts have focused primarily on service name and input/output ontology. Thus, the internal information of a service has not been utilized, and queries regarding internal information such as 'Find book-selling services allowing payment after delivery' are not addressed. This study outlines the development of TM-S (Topic Maps for Service) ontology and TMS-QL (TM-S Query Language), two novel technologies that address the aforementioned issues in semantic web service discovery research. TM-S ontology describes the behavior of services using process information and consists of three sub-ontologies: process signature ontology, process structure ontology and process concept ontology. TMS-QL allows users to describe service discovery requests.

  • The Intelligent Web Service is proposed for the purpose of automatic discovery, invocation, composition, inter-operation, execution monitoring and recovery web service through the Semantic Web and the Agent technology. To accomplish this Intelligent Web Service, the Ontology is a necessity for reasoning and processing the knowledge by the computer. However, creating service ontology, for the intelligent web service, has two problems not only consuming a lot of time and cost depended on heuristic of service developer, but also being hard to be mapping completely between service and service ontology. Moreover, the markup language to describe the service ontology is currently hard to be learned by the service developer In a short time. This paper proposes the efficient way of designing and creating the service ontology using MDA methodology. This proposed solution reuses the creating model in terms of desiEninE and constructing Web Service Model using UML based on MDA. After converting the Platform-Independent Web Service Model to the dependent model of OWL-S which is a Service Ontology description language, it converts to OWL-S Service Ontology using XMI. This proposed solution has profits, oneis able to be easily constructed the Service Ontology by Service Developers, the other is enable to be created the both service and Service Ontology from one model. Moreover, it can be effective to reduce the time and cost as creating Service Ontology automatically from a model, and calmly dealt with a change of outer environment like as the platform change. This paper cites an instance for the validity of designing Web Service model and creating the Service Ontology, and validates whether the created Service Ontology is valid or not.

  • We present in this paper the methodology for automatic generation of OWL-S service model ontology along with the results and issues. First, we extract information related to atomic services and their properties such as IOPE from the UML class diagram, and retrieve information related to the composition of services from the UML state-chart diagram. Then, the XSLT applications utilize the acquired information to generate the OWL-S service model ontology through the predefined mappings between OWL-S constructs for composite services and UML state-chart primitives. For the justification of generated service ontology, several validation checks are performed. Our service ontology generation method is general and fully automatic, as well as effective, in that it is achieved in an environment familiar to developers, and information needed to generate service ontology is provided necessarily during service development. It is also noticeable to facilitate representing the condition with GUI rather than a complex language such as OCL.

  • Even though several methodologies for SOA(Service Oriented Architecture) have been proposed, in practical aspects most of them have some problems since they fail to propose specific policies in definition and identification of a service. This paper proposes a service modeling methodology. SOMO(Service Oriented Modeling using Ontology), which draws proper services in the process of defining and identifying services. SOMO defines a service ontology based on service definition and characteristics in SOA. The service drawing process consists of 3 steps : requirement analysis, service identification, and service definition. SOMO is expected to increase the degree of reuse and facilitates the definition and search of services by using service ontology. In addition, it clearly allows the definition and identification of services, satisfying the user requirements.

  • As the importance of collaboration becomes critical in today's open and complex business environment network, the issues and solutions on compatibility and reusability between different kinds of applications are being increasingly important as well in systems analysis and design. And therefore, service-centered SOA is receiving attention in such business environment as a strategic approach that makes possible for prompt action according to the needs of users and business process. Various implementation methodologies have been proposed for SOA, however, in practical aspects most of them have some problems since they fail to propose specific policies in definition and identification of services for the exact user requirements and business situations. To solve or alleviate those problems, this paper suggests a new service identification model based on hierarchical ontology, where three different ontologies such as business ontology, context ontology and service ontology are proposed to define the relationship and design the link between user requirements, business process, applications and services. Through a suggested methodology in this paper, it would be possible to provide proactive services that meets a variety of business environments and demands of user. Also, since the information can be modified adaptively and dynamically by hierarchical ontology, this study is expected to play a positive role in increasing the flexibility of systems and business environments.

  • Rural amenity resources consist of natural, cultural and social resources. Some of resources have been surveyed in other institutes and organizations and information system about these resources has been constructed. Integrating with information of existing system or database is helpful to produce useful rural amenity resources information to users. This integration of distributed information is based on semantic integration. In this paper, we used ontology for semantic integration and introduced the method of external information integration using ontology. We designed ontology table to represent ontology in database and integrated distributed information using ontology. To examine the improvement of information service efficiency and the applicability, rural amenity resources information and tourist attraction information database were constructed and integrated. Also, the information service efficiency with information integration was evaluated using recall ratio and compared to the information service efficiency without information integration.

  • Efficient service description and modeling methodologies are essential for dynamic service composition to provide autonomous services for users in ubiquitous computing environments. In our previous research, we proposed a 'u-service' ontology which is an abstract and structured concept for device operations in ubiquitous environments. One of the problems that we faced during the design process was that there are not enough standards to analyze the effectiveness of a u-service ontology. In this paper, we propose a quality evaluation model to facilitate the design process of a uservice ontology. We extract modeling goals and evaluation indicators based on the uservice description specification. We also present quality metrics to quantify each of the design properties. The experiment result of the proposed quality model shows that we can use it to analyze the design of u-service ontology from various angles. Also, it shows that the model can provide a guideline, and offer appropriate recommendations for improvements.

  • Recently, most of computing technology is based on web. Therefore, the users register web services or needed resources, and they can find and use the registered item. These services can be used alone or can be used in combination. When the item is used in combination, the ordering and association of service is important, and an ontology that defined association of services is required. In this paper, we define association of services based on ontology, and propose a method that can be used by services integration. The proposed method provides an efficient retrieval service by compositing the ontology with the service area and data association area.

  • In the IoT environment, context information is important to provide context service to the user. For this, collected data from devices such as sensors or actuators, converts to context information using the ontology. Because the existing ontologies designed for target service, if the user wants to change the service requirements, service condition, service environment or another service, overall ontology will be redesigned to the changed service. To overcome this difficulty, we propose the cross-vertical ontology model called the Generic Ontology Models(GOMs). It can define the user's desired services without regarding to place and situation. Also, we propose IoT service concept model that represents data flow of the IoT service and IoT service environment. Moreover, as the use case, we show that the proposed GOMs are able to provide the IoT service well.

  • Information retrieval is one of the most challenging areas in which the ontology technology is effectively used. Among them image retrieval using the image meta data and ontology is the one that can substitute the keyword-based image retrieval. In the paper, the retrieval of visual media such as the art image and photo picture is handled. It is assumed that there are more than one service providers of the visual media and also there is one central service broker that mediates the user's query. Given the user's query the first step that must be done in the service broker is to get the list of candidate service providers that fit the query. This is done by defining various ontologies such as the service ontology and matching the query against the ontology and providers. A novel matching method based on the ASN.1. The experiment shows that the method is more effective than existing tree-based and interval-based methods. Ontology merging issue is also handled that can happen when the service providers register their service into the service broker. An effective method is also proposed.
