  • Very efficient 6-ary runlength-limited codes for a six-level optical recording channel are presented when d = 3. The 6-ary(3, 15) code of rate 6/7 is given achieving coding efficiency of 98.87%. The efficiency of rate 13/15, (3, 20) code is 99.95%, which approaches the Shannon capacity. To increase the accurary of reading 6-ary signal, partial response modes are also investigated.

  • A genius "Prince of Mathematician" Gaussian and "Father of Communication" Shannon comes up with the creative idea of motivation to meet each other? The answer is a coin leaf. Gaussian found some creative ideas in the matter of obtaining a sum of 1 to 100. This is the same as the probability distribution curve when a coin leaf is thrown. Shannon extended the Gaussian probability distribution to define the entropy, taking the source symbol and the reciprocal logarithm to obtain the weighted average. These where the genius Gaussian and Shannon meet in the same coin leaf. This paper focuses on this point, and easily proves Gaussian distribution and Shannon entropy. As an application example, we have obtained the capacity and transition probability of Jeongju seminal vesicle, and the Shannon channel capacity is 1 when the equivalent transition probability is 1/2.

  • By comparing Wiener's MMSE on stochastic signal transmission with Shannon's mutual information first proved by C.E. Shannon in terms of information theory, connections between two approaches were investigated. What Wiener wanted to see in signal transmission in noisy channel is to try to capture fundamental limits for signal quality in signal estimation. On the other hands, Shannon was interested in finding fundamental limits of signal quantity that maximize the uncertainty in mutual information using the entropy concept in noisy channel. First concern of this paper is to show that in deriving limits of Shannon's point to point fundamental channel capacity, Shannon's mutual information obtained by exploiting MMSE combiner and Wiener filter's MMSE are interelated by integro-differential equantion. Then, At the meeting point of Wiener's MMSE and Shannon's mutual information the upper bound of spectral efficiency and the lower bound of energy efficiency were computed. Choosing a proper lattice-type code of a mod-${\Lambda}$AWGN channel model and MMSE estimation of ${\alpha}$ confirmed to lead to the fundamental Shannon capacity limits.

  • The capacity of ultra-wideband (UWB) systems in presence of narrowband interference (NBI) is studied. By appropriately modifying the Shannon capacity formula, an analytical expression for the capacity of M-ary pulse position modulation (PPM) signals in the presence of NBI is obtained. Performance evaluation results for the capacity of such signals as a function of the NBI carrier frequency and power are also presented.

  • In this paper, we look into a Jong Nang Channel which is the origin of digital communications and has been used in Jeju Island since AD 1234. It is one kind of communication ways which informs people of whether a house owner is in one's house or not using its own protocol. It is comprised of three timber and two stone pillars whose one side has three holes respectively. In this paper, we analyze the Jong-Nang Channel both in the light of logic and bit error probability. In addition, we compare it with a conventional binary erasure channel when some errors occur over them respectively. We also show that a capacity of NOR channel approaches Shannon limit.

  • The decoding structure of up-to-date ATSC DTV receivers is well optimized, and it seems that 14.6 dB is the unbreakable minimum SNR in the AWGN channel. But the SNR satisfying the Shannon capacity of DTV receivers is 11.76 dB, So, the SNR gab between the 14.6 dB and the 11.76 dB is about 2.8 dB. In order to approach the Shannon capacity we propose a recursive trellis decoder which uses reliable feedback data obtained by an RS decoder. The performance enhancement of about 0.8 dB can be achieved in case of the AWGN channel.

  • In this paper, we analyze the M-WiMAX UL capacity limits under 2-Tier cell layout, considering the effects of random user position, path loss models, fading channel and adjacent channel interference from WCDMA system. In order to make the analysis approximate to the practical system capacity, we propose a MCS-based capacity analysis method considering the effects of PER requirement and the utilized MCS levels in M-WiMAX system. The proposed MCS-based method is validated through a system-level Monte Carlo simulation. Furthermore, a comparison between the conventional Shannon method and the proposed MCS-based method is presented and the optimum cell radius is suggested.

  • This article discusses a diagnostics method based on models, and information theory. From an extensive system dynamics bond graph model of a gearbox [1], simulated were various cases germane to this diagnostics approach, including the response of an ideal gearbox, which functions perfectly to designer's specifications, and degraded gearboxes with tooth root cracking. By comparing these cases and constructing a signal flow analogy between the gearbox and a communication channel, Shannon' s information theory [2], including theorems, was applied to the gearbox to assess system health, in terms of ability to function.

  • Information theory is one field of the applied mathematics quantitating the data in order to store data as many as in the medium or communicate through channel. it was released on the Shannon's paper, in 1948. With basis on this paper, It has been achieved dramatically development for communication, signal processing, and date procedure and transmission in the network In this paper, the basic concept of information theory is described through dealing with contents about meaning of information, entropy, and channel capacity. It is also handled how information theory is applied to the fields of sensor network, relay channel, MIMO system, and others.
