A Hardware-Software Interface Design in the Codesign Environment (혼합 설계 환경에서의 하드웨어-소프트웨어 인터페이스 설계)

  • In this paper, A target architecture and interface synthesizer are proposed for processor-embedded codesign. The target architecture has the form of ARM processor based on AMBA. The interface synthesizer automatically generates an interface circuit for the communication between HW and SW. A memory map is used as the communication channel and an interrupt-based interface is applied for synchronized communication between HW and SW modules. In order to verify the function and performance of proposed target architecture and the interface synthesizer, practical test example is applied. Experimental results show the proposed interface synthesizer functioned correctly in the HW/SW codesign environment.

Engine Sound Design for Electric Vehicle by using Software Synthesizer (소프트웨어 신디사이저를 이용한 전기자동차 엔진 사운드 디자인)

  • Unlike diesel locomotives, electric vehicles have various issues because they have very quiet engine sound. For example, pedestrians are exposed to the dangerous electric vehicles on the road because they can not recognize the electric vehicles' sound. Moreover, the driver is unable to recognize how fast driver's car is driving at a certain speed. To solve these problems, electric cars' sound needs to be artificially implemented and played. This paper examines the problems of the previous sampling engine sound approach. In this paper, instead of using sampling sounds, we developed a novel synthesizer algorithm via programming languages as a software. In experimental results, we demonstrated and verified our proposed synthesizer's approach is superior to the previous sampling approach. In addition, through these synthesizer's approach, we highly expect the proposed synthesizer's approach will give safety, convenience and comfort to the electric vehicles' users.

  • 많은 사람이 사회적 문제로 인하여 대두되고 있는 스트레스 및 정신질환 문제를 해소하기 위하여 다양한 문화생활을 선택하고 있다. 그중 휴식을 제외하면 취미, 오락, 스포츠가 가장 큰 비중을 가지고 있다. 본 논문에서는 모션 캡처를 활용하여 움직임의 변화를 인식하고 이에 따라 신디사이저 사운드를 발생시키는 시스템을 제작하였다. 해당 시스템은 악기를 대신하여 연주와 춤이 동시에 이루어져 취미와 스포츠가 결합 된 새로운 여가 활동의 가능성을 제기하며, 공연 및 아이들의 교육적 목적으로 활용되는 등 교육적, 신체적, 심리적 건강을 위하여 활용될 수 있다.

Artificial Neural Networks based Strand Synthesizer for Hair Super-Resolution (모발 슈퍼 해상도를 위한 인공신경망 기반의 머리카락 합성기)

  • 본 논문에서는 인공신경망 기반의 슈퍼 해상도(Super-resolution, SR) 기법을 이용하여 저해상도(Low-resolution, LR) 헤어 시뮬레이션을 고해상도(High-resolution, HR)로 노이즈 없이 표현할 수 있는 기법을 제안한다. LR과 HR 머리카락 간의 쌍은 헤어 시뮬레이션을 통해 얻을 수 있으며, 이렇게 얻어진 데이터를 이용하여 HR-LR 데이터 쌍을 설정한다. 학습할 때 사용되는 데이터는 머리카락의 위치를 지오메트리 이미지로 변환하여 사용한다. 우리가 제안하는 헤어 네트워크는 LR 이미지를 HR 이미지로 업스케일링 시키는 이미지 합성기를 위해 사용된다. 테스트 결과로 얻어진 HR 이미지가 HR 머리카락으로 다시 변환되면, 하나의 매핑 함수로 표현하기 어려운 머리카락의 찰랑거리는(Elastic) 움직임을 잘 표현할 수 있다. 합성 결과에 대한 성능으로는 전통적인 물리 기반 시뮬레이션보다 빠른 성능을 보였으며, 복잡한 수치해석을 몰라도 쉽게 실행이 가능하다.

  • Real-time RELP vocoder is implemented on the TMS320C25 DSP chip. The implemented system is IBM-PC add-on board and composed of analog in/out unit, DSP unit, memoy unit, IBM-PC interface unit and its supporting assembly software. Speech analyzer and synthesizer is implimented by DSP assembly software. Speech parameters such as LPC coefficients, base-band residuals, and signal gains is extracted by autocorrelation method and inverse filter and synthesized by spectral folding method and direct form synthesis filter in this board. And then, real-time RELP vocoder with 9.6Kbps is simulated by down-loading method in the DSP program RAM.

  • With the advent of multimedia era, there are ever increasing interest in computer music and sound syntheis. An FM type sound synthesizing method makes possible the syntheis ofvarious sounds ofmusical instruments with a relatively simple hardware architecture. Therefore, in this paper, we designed a hardware architecture for real-time sound synthesizer and its logic gates. In this paper, we designed a basic sound generator for implementation of real-time logic gates, analzed characteristics of sounds synthesized in this architecture and extracted parameters of FM sounds of musical instruments by using the Csound software. The major bolkcs to build the hardware are a phase-generator, a singe-function-generator, an envelope-generator and a multiplier-part. Finally, logic circuits are designed and verified in VHDL and logic gates by 1.0um standard cell library, which will be easily implementable by the form of ASIC.

  • Unlike internal combustion engines, electric cars have little engine sound and very quiet, causing the following problems to occur. First of all, pedestrians are a threat to safety because they can't feel the car approaching. The driver is also unable to recognize how fast his car is driving at a certain speed. To solve these problems, electric cars should be artificially created and reused. This paper examines the problems of the Sampling engine sound currently being used and uses the engine sound to produce a sound engine sound for the solution. The sampling engine sound has some limitations in making natural engine sounds. To overcome this problem, we studied two methods of using software synthesizers. They found subtractive synthsizing and wavetable synthsizing, which compared wavetabe synthsizing with actual engine, sampling and subtractive methods to find the most similar to real engine sound. We found that data usage and production cost are more advantageous than sampling method and subtractive syndication method.

Vocabulary Generation Method by Optical Character Recognition (광학 문자 인식을 통한 단어 정리 방법)

  • A reader usually spends a lot of time browsing and searching word meaning in a dictionary, internet or smart applications in order to find the unknown words. In this paper, we propose a method to compensate this drawback. The proposed method introduces a vocabulary upon recognizing a word or group of words that was captured by a smart phone camera. Through this proposed method, organizing and editing words that were captured by smart phone, searching the dictionary data using bisection method, listening pronunciation with the use of speech synthesizer, building and editing of vocabulary stored in database are given as the features. A smart phone application for organizing English words was established. The proposed method significantly reduces the organizing time for unknown English words and increases the English learning efficiency.

MPEG-I RVS Software Speed-up for Real-time Application (실시간 렌더링을 위한 MPEG-I RVS 가속화 기법)

  • Free viewpoint image synthesis technology is one of the important technologies in the MPEG-I (Immersive) standard. RVS (Reference View Synthesizer) developed by MPEG-I and in use in MPEG group is a DIBR (Depth Information-Based Rendering) program that generates an image at a virtual (intermediate) viewpoint from multiple viewpoints' inputs. RVS uses the mesh surface method based on computer graphics, and outperforms the pixel-based ones by 2.5dB or more compared to the previous pixel method. Even though its OpenGL version provides 10 times speed up over the non OpenGL based one, it still shows a non-real-time processing speed, i.e., 0.75 fps on the two 2k resolution input images. In this paper, we analyze the internal of RVS implementation and modify its structure, achieving 34 times speed up, therefore, real-time performance (22-26 fps), through the 3 key improvements: 1) the reuse of OpenGL buffers and texture objects 2) the parallelization of file I/O and OpenGL execution 3) the parallelization of GPU shader program and buffer transfer.

  • The present study is purposed to establish a systematic theory for user-friendly approach to the creation of using a programming language using Csound. Csound is a world-wide computer music programming language and a software synthesizer specialized for prominent sound designers developed by Barry Vercoe at the Media Laboratory in M.I.T. The introduction and the main body of this paper suggested as the starting point of creating electronic music and musical sound the time of combination of music with natural sound or sound from specific media from the viewpoint of traditional Western music. and presents a systematic method composed of the principle of the operation of Csound and basic data samples.
