  • This study was carried out to effect on Growth Characteristics and Yield of Solanum njgrum L. The experimental results are summarized as follows. Germination, growth characteristics and yield of Solanum nigrum Linne collected from southern parts of Korea were investigated. The one fruit weight was the heaviest in Gochang traditional S. nigrum among the collected sites. The number of seeds in one fruit was high in the orders of Gochang traditional sites, Gwangju traditional sites, Suncheon traditional sites and Naju traditional sites. The earliest flowering of Solanum nigrum was observed on 10. August. The plant height, stem diameter, leaf numbers and branch numbers were ranged from 65 cm to 75 cm, 7.1 mm to 8.2 mm, 237 ea to 270 ea and 12 ea to 17 ea, respectively. The fresh weight per plants were ranged from 265 g to 279 g, and yield of biomass were ranged from 1,298 kg to 1,367 kg per 10a. The insect pest numbers of S. nigrum according to the collected sites were showed no significant in this test.

  • In this study, we investigated the variation in free sugars, amino acids, antioxidant activity, and anti-inflammatory activity of Solanum nigrum Linne based on harvest time. Major amino acids identified by HPLC analysis were proline, histidine, and serine. The highest content of total amino acids were found in S. nigrum aerial parts and roots harvested on July 10th and August 10th. Four kinds of free sugars (fructose, glucose, sucrose, maltose) were detected in S. nigrum, and the free sugar content varied significantly with harvest time. The fructose content of S. nigrum decreased with as harvest time increased. The total polyphenol content of S. nigrum was highest in those harvested on August 30th. The antioxidant activity of ethanol extract from S. nigrum collected at different harvest times were measured by DPPH and ABTS radical scavenging assays. The anti-inflammatory activity of these extracts were assayed via nitric oxide suppression in C6 glioma cells with a lipopolysaccharide (LPS)-induced inflammatory response. The anti-inflammatory activity and antioxidant effects were the highest in the extract from S. nigrum collected on August 30th. Good correlations were observed between antioxidant and anti-inflammatory activities in ethanol extract of S. nigrum roots harvested on August 30th.

  • This study aimed to investigate the protective effect of Solanum nigum Linne total extract (SNT), Solanum nigum Linne leaf extract (SNL), Solanum nigum Linne root extract (SNR) on liver injury induced by Lipopolysaccharide(LPS) in Sprague-Dawley rats. SNT, SNL, SNR of 100 mg/kg concentration was intraperitoneally administered into rats at dose of 1.5 ml/kg for 20 days. on the day 1.5 ml/kg of LPS was injected. Four hours later, they were anesthetization with ether and dissected. Glutamate oxaloacetate transaminase (GOT), glutamate pyruvate transaminase (GPT) were measured in serum and superoxide dismutase (SOD), catalase and glutathione peroxidase (GPX) were measured in liver homogenate. SNT, SNL, SNR extract inhibited GOT and GPT activities in LPS-induced rats, whereas increased SOD, Catalase and GPX activity in liver tissue of LPS-induced rats. These suggested that SNT, SNL, SNR could be used for functional beverage.

  • In this study, we investigated the variation in free sugars, organic acids, amino acids, antioxidant activity and anti-inflammatory effect of Solanum nigrum Linne fruits according to harvest time. Four kinds of free sugars (fructose, glucose, sucrose, maltose) were detected in S. nigrum fruit, and the free sugar contents varied significantly with harvest time. Organic acid content of S. nigrum fruit showed the highest in malic acid and acetic acid, and the highest content of total organic acids was found in S. nigrum fruit harvested on October $18^{th}$ and October $25^{th}$. For the total polyphenol content, S. nigrum fruit harvested on October $18^{th}$ was the highest. The strongest DPPH and ABTS radical scavenging activity was showed in S. nigrum fruit harvested on October $11^{th}$ and October $18^{th}$. The anti-inflammatory activity and antioxidant effects were the highest in the ethanol extract from S. nigrum fruit collected on October $18^{th}$ and October $11^{th}$. Thus, it seems the best to harvest of S. nigrum fruit harvested on October $11^{th}$ and October $18^{th}$.

  • This Paper deals With the biology and the life Cycle of Eriophyes kuko KISHIDA. 1. The host of Eriophyes kuko KISHIDA is Lycium chinense MILL (Boxthorn), Solanum nigrum LINNE(Morel) and Capacium annum LINNE(Red pepper) etc. 2. Eriophyes kuko KISHIDA is migrated and propagated by physical carriers. The direction of the wind has a great influence upon migration and dispersal. 3. The number of e99s deposited by a adult female is $28.5\pm0.449$ egg period is $7.0\pm0.447$ and larval period is $4.33\pm0.667$ days respectively. 4. The size of gall diameter on the leaf of Lycium Chinense MILL after boring in each date by Eriophyes kuke KISHIDA is as follows, 1st day after boring is $290.5\pm0.3415\mu$ End 25st day after boring is $3260.5\pm0.5157\mu$ in average. 5. Adult periods are from 25 to 30 days and the egg laying period is 6 days. 6. Eriophyes kuko KISHIDA has 6 to 7 generations in a year, and hibernate they over winter in the gall as an adult. The first adult appears in late May.
