In the knowledge and network economy, standards and standardization become an important factor in determining the competitiveness of nations and firms. This paper analyses some cases of firms' strategic standardization. We defined the concept of standards, standardization, strategic standardization, and standardization management, which have been unfamiliar in the academic society. The standardization strategy can be categorized into four types according to firm's management objectives or benefits, including technological innovation, market creation/extension. cost-down, and accreditation. This classification of standardization strategy is very useful in analysing the various kinds of the cases of strategic standardization implementation. We found that standards and standardization have a positive influence on firm's overall performance. In some cases, for example, Dell Computer, Sun Microsystems, Deere & Company, etc., strategic standardization plays a role as a key success factor(KSF).

Objectives: This study aims to investigate the policy status of traditional medicine standardization between Korea and China as well as to derive a strategic development plan for Korean medicine standardization. Methods: The existing national plans and preceding studies on traditional medicine standardization in Korea and China were reviewed, and scope of the study was categorized as having three main aspects: infrastructure; standard development and standardization activities; and application and diffusion. Results: Nine development plans for Korean medicine standardization derived under the study were as follows: With regard to infrastructure of standardization, 1) standardization plan of Korean medicine shall be established based on involvement of multi-government ministries. 2) It shall be set with a consistent cooperation process among standardization-related organizations, as well as 3) encourage the industry to participate in standardization activities. To activate standards development, 4) launching the R&D-standardization-industrialization linked project, 5) supporting Korean medicine society and the mirror committee for motivation, and 6) planning the international joint research for development of standard and expanding standardization activities are recommended. In the aspect of application, there is a need for 7) expanding certification systems for the industry and 8) evaluation and feedback on the life-cycle of standardization. Lastly, 9) educational programs for training experts of standardization shall be developed and implemented. Conclusions: In order to invigorate standardization activities for Korean medicine, enhancement of planning and evaluation capacity, ensuring the strategic development of standards, broadening boundaries of international standardization activities, and training professionals are required.

Along with the enlargement of WTO, issues about standardization activity are more and more become concerning object worldwide. Countries launch the work that putting the standardization in order, such as re-establishing their standardization strategy. With the chance of entering WTO, China is promoting the rebuilding of standardization system in order to conform to international standardization system. Thus, in this paper, research make it clear that the variation of circumstance of standardization activity, the importance of the standardization activity, and the international movement, in the meantime, it surveyed the development course of standardization activity and it's present operating system. By this means, it concludes the problems of present operating system and implies the improving scheme. Further more, this paper implies Chinese characteristic standardization system which conform with WTO/TBT and international standardization system. Firstly, through the comprehensive analysis on standardization system, it figures out the main function of relevant organizations in each working stage. Secondly, this paper makes a system model composed of possible three stage, and setup items needs promotion and main target in each stage. Finally, this paper point out the development direction of standardization system, it also implies it's limitation and the later possible research topic in this field.

This paper presents a fundamental study to establish a standardization system of the Construction Continuous Acquisition and Life-cycle Support(CALS). A state of the art in standardization of the Construction CALS is reviewed to find some defects in developing CALS system in construction industry. It is analyzed that three major parts were needed to set up a standardization system for the Construction CALS. Firstly, the range of Construction CALS standardization is set up to identifying Construction CALS and defining the standards and standardization. Secondly, the strategy to carry out more effectively in Construction CALS standardization and make the relationship of the concerned system presented here can be used to establish the Construction CALS standardization system. In addition, the spread and application device are proposed to use Construction CALS standards at public institution and construction related companies. Conclusively, a classification of the Construction CALS standards was proposed and some objects to be standardized were represented in that. Results studied in this paper will provide the primary information and basic model to develop a guideline for standardization of the Construction CALS.

This paper analyzes how levels of logistics standardization are related to logistics costs. The study surveyed ratios of standard pallet use in order to measure levels of firms' standardization in logistics management. Research focused on how firms' logistics costs were related to their levels of logistics standardization and ratios of standard pallet use. After measuring use of standard pallets and logistics costs, optimal levels of logistics standardization were estimated based on survey data. Logistics costs and standardization were more related to labor than to freight volume or export. Results indicated that firms could reduce logistics costs by raising levels of logistics standardization; optimal levels of standard pallet use out of Korean firms' total manufacturing cargo volume were estimated at 44.26% for multi-standard pallets and 57.99% for a single standard pallet (a unit load system). The study demonstrated that adopting a single standard pallet results in better cost saving logistics systems than use of multi-standard pallet types. These results may explain why firms pursue standardization in logistics systems.

공공기록관리 혁신의 일환으로 표준화 정책이 수립된 이후 지난 4년간 기록관리 전 영역에 걸쳐 55개의 표준화 과제가 추진되었다. 이 연구는 그동안 추진된 기록관리 표준화 정책과 추진내용을 평가하여 중장기 표준화 전략 재구축에 시사점을 제공하고자 한다. 평가는 표준화 관련 정책 문서와 중앙행정기관 기록관리 실무자들과의 면담을 기반으로 수행하였다. 표준화 대상 선정의 적절성, 표준의 질적 수준, 표준화 절차, 표준화 정책 등 4개 영역으로 범주화하여 평가 기준을 설정하고 이에 따라 정성적 평가를 실시하였다.

본 연구에서는 우리나라 서비스기업에 있어서 표준화활동 결정요인을 분석하였다. 표준화활동을 유형(혹은 범주)에 따라 기업의 전사적 표준경영, 국내표준화활동, 국제표준화활동 등으로 구분하였고, 그 결정요인으로 기술혁신활동(R&D와 특허출원), 기업규모, 수출, 네트워크(산업특성), 기업조직특성 등을 고려하였다. 분석된 표본은 서비스업에 속한 102개 기업으로 정성적 분석방법인 로지스틱 회귀모형(logistic regression)을 사용하였다. 분석결과는 다음과 같다, 첫째, R&D집약도는 전사적 차원에서의 표준경영과 국내표준화활동에는 영향을 미치지 않지만, 국제표준화활동에는 정(+)의 영향을 미치는 것으로 나타났다. 이는 우리나라 서비스기업들이 국제적 표준화과정에의 참여를 기술이전의 수단으로 활용하는 경향이 있기 때문인 것으로 해석하였다. 둘째, 특허출원은 전사적 차원에서의 표준경영에 부(-)의 유의한 효과를 보여 주었다. 즉 특허활동이 활발한 서비스기업일수록 표준화를 기술혁신의 관점에서 중시하지 않고, 자사 기술정보의 유출이나 특허침해의 요인으로 간주하는 현상을 발견하였다. 셋째, 기업규모변수는 서비스기업의 경우 표준화 활동과 연관이 없는 것으로 나타났다. 넷째, 표준화에 대한 경영진의 관심은 표준화활동의 유형에 관계없이 표준화활동의 중요한 결정요인으로 분석되었다.

글로벌 경쟁시대로 접어들면서 산업 분야를 막론하고 표준화의 중요성은 날로 증대되고 있다. 세계화가 진척됨에 따라 빠른 속도로 증가하는 국가 간 무역에서도 표준화를 통한 호환성 확보는 수출 경쟁력을 결정하는 필수적인 요소가 되고 있다. 본 연구에서는 이러한 표준 및 표준화에 대한 교육 실태와 표준화 교육이 기업의 성과에 미치는 영향에 대해서 연구하였다. 이를 위해 먼저 우리나라 정보통신 및 전기전자 기업을 샘플로 하여 표준화 교육의 실태를 확인하였다. 또한 기업의 표준 및 표준화 교육에 영향을 미치는 요인을 기업의 특성, 업종, 업력, 그리고 교육에 대한 필요성 인식의 측면에서 확인하였다. 그 결과 기업의 특성과 표준화 교육에 대한 필요성의 인식에 따라서 표준 및 표준화 교육의 수준이 양적으로 달라짐을 확인할 수 있었다. 마지막으로 이러한 표준 및 표준화 교육의 실시 수준이 기업의 성과에 어떻게 영향을 미치는 지를 확인하였다. 연구 결과 표준화 교육의 횟수 및 교육 인원은 기업의 R&D 수행과 생산 및 품질 개선으로 대표되는 기업의 성과에 긍정적인 영향을 미침을 확인하였다. 본 연구의 결과는 글로벌 경쟁에서 경쟁력을 확보하기 위한 방편으로 표준화 교육의 중요성에 대해서 확인하였다는 점에서 그 함의를 가진다.
