  • The goal of this research is to get a measuring system for absorption characteristics of electromagnetic wave absorbers in ferrite type which are lat grid-type special type etc. It is however very difficult to measure the absorption characteristics as in low frequency as in 30 MHz, To solve the problem therefore we propose a standing wave method and a measurement method in time domain using parallel striplines construct the measuring system and measure the characteristics of ferrite microwave absorbers in grid type using the proposed measuring system.

  • An experimental study was performed for the analysis of frequency-equivalence ratio correlation in the methane-air premixed flame influenced by ultrasonic standing wave. Evolutionary features of the propagating flame were caught by high-speed camera, and the variation of flame-behavior including local velocities was investigated in detail using a post-processing analysis of the high-speed images. It was found that propagation-velocity augmentation of the methane-air premixed flame by the intervention of ultrasonic standing wave was made in leaner mixture, but the velocity diminished when the strength of chemical reaction was saturated around the slightly fuel-rich side of stoichiometry.

  • For a vertical wall with standing waves on its front face, the unsteady flow in a flow conduit installed through the wall is analyzed. A nonlinear standing wave theory making use of Fourier expansion is applied, and the results are verified by a hydraulic experiment. It is found that the nonlinear theory better predicts the behavior of the flow compared to its linear counterpart. The investigation of the water transmissibility through the conduit shows that the variation of the flow rate becomes larger as the standing wave height and period increase and as the length of conduit decreases. The relationship is presented by a nondimensional equation. The net flow gain per one wave period, which is directly related to water exchanging capability of the conduit, appears to be negative in both theory and experiment when the conduit is located near the bottom. The maximal flow gain occurs in the conduit whose mouth is located at the still water level. In addition, it is shown that the longer wave period and the shorter conduit length are more effective in the water exchanging performance.

  • Investigations of the relation between the stack temperature profile of a standing wave thermoacoustic cooler and the cooling efficiency were performed. Based on the mathematical derivations using the Rott Equation, it was found that the temperature profile along the stack becomes nonlinear as the enthalpy flux passing through the stack increases. It was also found that such nonlinear temperature profiles lower the cooling efficiency. Simulations using a thermoacoustic simulation program called DELTAE showed that the nonlinear temperature profile occurs with a long stack and large cooling load.

  • Room temperature cw operations of a standing wave and a unidirectional Ti:Sapphire laser pumped by a $Ar^+$ laser have been demonstrated in the same pumping cavity configuration. Laser emission at 790 nm was excited with all-line $Ar^+$ laser pump for both cavities. The maximum output power was found to be 600 mW in the standing wave cavity and 210 mW in the ring cavity. Values of (83 ${\pm}$ 10) % for the internal quantum efficiency and (3.0 ${\pm}$ 0.5) % for the round-trip cavity loss for standing wave cavity are obtained from the thresholds and slope efficiencies measured with 2.4 and 11.2 % optput couplers. The measured cavity-loss value at 790 nm gives a meterial figure of merit (FOM) to be 146. Unidirectional operation of the ring Ti:Sapphire laser will be discussed.

  • A study was conducted to scrutinize the behavior of the ultrasonically-atomized kerosene lifted-flame according to the carrier gas flow-rate and position of ultrasonic standing wave (USW). The combustion region of the kerosene-aerosol generated through a slit-jet nozzle was visualized using a DSLR, ICCD, high-speed camera, and Schlieren technique, and the fuel consumption was measured by using a precision balance. As a result, the flame was confined within the region bounded by the USW-field, and the fuel consumption decreased as the position of the USW field increased.

  • The Sabine's formula has been widlely used for calculating reverberation time and applied for actual systems. The result of Sabine's method is only same as the reverberation time of one axial wave according to the wave theory. Reverberation time is mainly dependent on the standing waves. In case of the rectangular room the frequencies of three mode covering 250Hz and several intensities at various positions of the room were measures by a spectrograph. It wart found that axial wavers and tangential waves decayed more slowly than oblique waves. The experimental results showed that the amount of axial and tangential wave in a frequency band varies depending on the position in the room. It is concluded that the results give to control reverberation times in a room.

  • To investigate the heavy-weight impact noise of apartment houses, numerical analysis was performed. The analysis acoustic pressure consider acoustic mode by finite element method. The variables considered effecting on the acoustic pressure are the Acoustic mode, acoustic damping, and the impulse load. The heavy-weight impact noise is a changeable value in the room. Since the most part of the frequency component of heavy-weight impact noise has low frequency. The noise in low frequency is related to the vibration of structure, the reflection of acoustic wave caused by wall and the standing wave called by acoustic mode. The prediction by the numerical analysis was verified with test result of the heavy weight-impact noise at apartment houses.
