  • This study presents the structure design of antenna to have the dual band characteristics in a desired frequency band through the structural modification of an antenna structure. For the experiment, a wideband crossed planar monopole antenna was used. The target frequency band was set to ISM 2.45GHz/5.8GHz. To give the properties, an additional antenna element was added to the crossed planar monopole antenna, which is a main body of the antenna. And then structural adjustment parameter was set to change the length(shape) of the antenna. Various simulations were conducted to find the dual band characteristics in the desired frequency band. The simulations brought forth the antenna bandwidth above the normal values for ISM 2.45GHz/5.8GHz. The structural adjustment parameter introduced in this study for structural modification of an antenna can be useful in developing an antenna featured with dual band(multiband) characteristics.

  • Limiting distributions of Studentized test statistics have been shown for testing the slope parameter in a simple linear structural model. Since the limiting distribution of Studentized one appears to yield inaccurate inference, this paper suggests adjustment of critical value and normalization of the Studentized one. As results, we can have procedures for refined inference based on our approximate distrbution instead of the limiting distribution.

  • The compressive strength of concrete is commonly used criterion in producing concrete. However, the tests on the compressive strength are complicated and time-consuming. More importantly, it is too late to make improvement even if the test result does not satisfy the required strength, since the test is usually performed at the 28th day after the placement of concrete at the construction site. Therefore, accurate and realistic strength estimation before the placement of concrete is being highly required. In this study, the estimation of the compressive strength of concrete was performed by probabilistic neural network (PNN) on the basis of concrete mix proportions. The estimation performance of PNN was improved by considering the correlation between input data and targeted output value. Adaptive probabilistic neural network (APNN) was proposed to automatically calculate the smoothing parameter in the conventional PNN by using the scheme of dynamic decay adjustment algorithm. The conventional PNN and APNN were applied to predict the compressive strength of concrete using actual test data of a concrete company. APNN showed better results than the conventional PNN in predicting the compressive strength of concrete.

  • This paper presents an optimal design method of a hybrid structural control system considering multi-hazard. Unlike a typical structural control system in which one system is designed for one specific type of hazard, a simultaneous optimal design method for both active and passive control systems is proposed for the mitigation of seismic and wind induced vibration responses of structures. As a numerical example, an optimal design problem is illustrated for a hybrid mass damper(HMD) and 30 viscous dampers which are installed on a 30 story building structure. In order to solve the optimization problem, a self-adaptive Harmony Search(HS) algorithm is adopted. Harmony Search algorithm is one of the meta-heuristic evolutionary methods for the global optimization, which mimics the human player's tuning process of musical instruments. A self-adaptive, dynamic parameter adjustment algorithm is also utilized for the purpose of broad search and fast convergence. The optimization results shows that the performance and effectiveness of the proposed system is superior with respect to a reference hybrid system in which the active and passive systems are independently optimized.

  • Cold-formed steel (CFS) sections are becoming an increasingly popular solution for constructing floors in residential, healthcare and education buildings. Their reduced weight, however, makes them prone to excessive vibrations, increasing the need for accurate prediction of CFS floor modal properties. By combining experimental modal analysis of a full-scale CFS framed building and its floors and their numerical finite element (FE) modelling this paper demonstrates that the existing methods (based on the best engineering judgement) for predicting CFS floor modal properties are unreliable. They can yield over 40% difference between the predicted and measured natural frequencies for important modes of vibration. This is because the methods were adopted from other floor types (e.g., timber or standard steel-concrete composite floors) and do not take into account specific features of CFS floors. Using the adjusted and then updated FE model, featuring semi-rigid connections led to markedly improved results. The first four measured and calculated CFS floor natural frequencies matched exactly and all relevant modal assurance criterion (MAC) values were above 90%. The introduction of flexible supports and more realistic modelling of the floor boundary conditions, as well as non-structural $fa{\c{c}}ade$ walls, proved to be crucial in the development of the new more successful modelling strategy. The process used to develop 10 identified and experimentally verified FE modelling parameters is based on published information and parameter adjustment resulting from FE model updating. This can be utilised for future design of similar lightweight steel floors in prefabricated buildings when checking their vibration serviceability, likely to be their governing design criterion.

  • This paper describes an accurate and stable current control method of switched reluctance motors(SRMs), which have recently attracted considerable wide attention owing to their favorable features, such as high performance, high durability, structural simplicity, low cost, etc. In most cases, the PI controllers(PICC) have been used mostly for the current control of electric motors because their algorithm and selection of controller gain are relatively simpler compared to other controllers. On the other hand, the PI controller requires an adjustment of the controller gains for each operating point when nonlinear system parameters change rapidly. This paper presents a stable current control method of an SRM using self-tuning fuzzy current controller(STFCC) under nonlinear parameter variation. The performance of the considered method is validated via a dynamic simulation of the current controlled SRM drive using Matlab/Simulink program.

  • IEC 61400-1 requires design lifetime of wind turbines at least 20 years, thus wind turbine should be assured for structural safety through load assessment. DLCs have been defined with respect to the load assessment in IEC 61400-1. In addition, if the extreme design values for DLC1.3 are equal or exceed the extreme design value for DLC1.1, DLC1.1 may be omitted. To omit DLC1.1, scale factor (c) will be increased in DLC1.3. However, this particular adjustment is not specified guidelines. Thus, this study was conducted. DLC1.1 was calculated for extrapolation of 50 years-extreme events using several probability distribution functions and fitting methods. And DLC1.3 was calculated for up to seven different values of scale factor (c) with $2{\leq}c{\leq}5$ in steps of 0.5. Finally, in this study, scale factor (c) that was the value of 4.51 was determined.

  • With the scientists and the technicians of the small- and medium-sized enterprises who have been subscribing to the pension service as the subjects, this research took a look at the influences on the intention to continuously subscribe to the pension service and, finally, took a look at the differences between the subscribers of the safety type and the profit type which have been provided by the pension service. Through the questionnaire survey, which collected the data, an actual proof analysis was carried out. Through the statistical program, the degree of the reliability analysis and the feasibility analysis were carried out. And the degree of the suitability of the structural equation model was tested. And, finally, through the research model, the hypothesis was verified and the differences between the groups were analyzed. It appeared that the factors of the reliability and the responsiveness of the service quality factor have the positive influence on the perceived value, which is a parameter. And it appeared that the materiality and the perceptual openness factors cannot have any influence. And the stability and the usefulness, which are the attributed factors of the pension service, had the positive influences on the perceived value. Finally, it appeared that the perceived value of the pension service has a positive influence on the intention to subscribe continuously. Through the results of this research, it can contribute to the invigoration of the pension service. And it is thought that a pension service which is better than the preexistent pension service can be provided.

  • In this paper, a dual-band antenna is proposed for the autonomous vehicle as well as omni-directional. The proposed antenna operates in the 4G/LTE band (1,710~2,170MHz) and 5G/NR band (3,400~3,700MHz). In order to obtain the dual-band operation, the planar monopole antenna is proposed as the novel structure with single port of the 50ohm. To give the properties of dual-band, an additional antenna element with slit was added to the planar monopole antenna, and then a structural adjustment parameter was optimized for achieving the target performance in bands. The planar monopole antenna in the LTE band acts as the coupled feed for the added parasitic radiator in the 5G NR band. The proposed antenna has $38.5{\times}36.0{\times}1.0[mm^3]$ on a ground with diameter of 96mm. From the fabrication and measurement results, the impedance bandwidth (VSWR<2) of the proposed antenna covers 1,480~2,260MHz (LTE band: 1,710~2,170MHz) and 3,310~3,930MHz (5G NR band: 3,400~3,700MHz). The proposed planar monopole antenna also obtained the measured gain and radiation pattern of omni-directional radiation pattern in the anechoic chamber.
