It surveyed halitosis-related elements and analyzed relationship between subjective self-perception level of halitosis according to it targeting 253 soldiers in their 20s in some areas of Seoul from September 2012 to October. Thus, the following conclusions were obtained. 1. As for subjects' self-perception of halitosis, the perception status of oral health was indicated to be 'very bad' and to be shown most highly in one place. It was indicated to be high in the group of feeling Xerostomia much and the group of often feeling the white membrane of tongue. The statistically significant difference was shown(p<0.01). 2. Subjects' self-perception of halitosis was indicated to be the highest in the group with the largest intake of snacks. It was shown to be the highest in the group of having sinus infection and rhinitis. It was indicated to be the highest in the group of having a habit of oral respiration. Significant difference was shown(p<0.05). 3. Subjects' self-perception of halitosis was indicated to be lower in the group, which ever received oral health education, than the group in opposite case. Significant difference was shown(p<0.05).

  • The purpose of this study was to investigate the correlation between wearing masks and subjective symptoms of halitosis in the COVID-19 situation. The survey was conducted from June 15 to July 31, 2022, among university students aged 19 years or older in Daegu and Gyeongbuk, 1. Subjective symptoms of halitosis were found to be higher in males and students being treated for periodontal diseases. 2. The subjective symptoms of halitosis were found to be higher in subjects with psychological anxiety, even though they did not have halitosis. 3. As a result of examining the subjective symptoms of halitosis, it was found that there were more subjects who were aware of halitosis while wearing a mask than those who were not. In view of the above results, it is thought that because of prolonged wearing of masks due to the COVID-19 pandemic situation, the difficulty faced in oral health management increases the symptoms of halitosis. Therefore, it is considered that oral health education in the era of corona should be accompanied by proper wearing of masks and halitosis management education.

  • Objectives : The purpose of this study to provide preliminary data to effective halitosis control. Methods : A survey was carried out the self-perception of causative factors of halitosis in 98 female college students in Chungnam province. In addition, the levels of oral gas and breath gas were measured by use of the B&B checker, and an analysis was made of the correlation between halitosis and obsessive-compulsive disorder (OCD). Results : 1. Subjective halitosis awareness degree different degree of dryness, 'None', 'some', 'little' people who feel as the 'little fly' (68%), 78.3%, 70% was higher (p<0.05), halitosis interest 'very worried', 'worry', 'normal' person with a' not at all 'to 58.3% higher (p<0.01). 2. In regard to OCD severity, 49.0%, 34.7% and 16.3% were found to be mild, moderate and severe respectively. Halitosis tended to be severe in proportion to OCD severity, which was statistically significant (p<0.05). 3. Oral gas had a positively correlation with breath gas (r=0.329, p<0.01), but had a negative one with OCD severity (r=0.204, p<0.05). Conclusions : Symptoms of oral dryness and halitosis interest were associated with self-perception of halitosis. The levels of oral gas and breath gas were in inverse proportion to OCD severity. Hereat, it needs to analyze psychogenic factors properly as regards the diagnosis or treatment of halitosis.

  • The aim was to be utilized as basic data in arranging efficient plan for removing halitosis by surveying correlation with halitosis components by each factor after measuring halitosis and analyzing components by subject of adults on halitosis. It targeted totally 160 people by 80 outpatients of 1 dental hospital, respectively, where is located in Daejeon and Chungnam, for 12 months from February 1, 2011 to January 30, 2012. As a result of analysis, in the halitosis measurement value of Oral chroma, it was shown to be 9.4% in case of being more than 112ppb in the measurement value of hydrogen sulfide, 20.6% in case of being more than 26ppb in the measurement value of methyl mercaptan, and 44.0% in case of being more than 8ppb in the measurement value of dimethyl sulfide, which was indicated to be the highest value among three components. Only the methyl mercaptan component and the dimethyl sulfide component, which were measured with oral chroma, stood at 0.578, thereby having been shown to have high positive correlation. Accordingly, a multilateral research is considered to be likely necessity as for diverse components of causing halitosis.

Methods: A self-reported questionnaire was completed by 240 social workers in Gwangju by convenience sampling method. The questionnaire consisted of general characteristics of the subjects(age, monthly salary, smoking, alcohol consumption) and systemic health condition(systemic diseases, medication, oral health status, and stress). The factors associated with oral health-related quality of life included skin dryness, eye dryness, lip dryness, and nasal dryness. The subjective dry mouth consisted of 6 questions measured by visual analogue scale(VAS). Cronbach's alpha was 0.868 in the study. The data were analyzed for t-test, one-way ANOVA and multiple regression analysis using SPSS 18.0 program. Results: The oral health-related quality of life in social workers varied by age, oral health status, stress status, and halitosis. The oral health-related quality of life had positive correlations with the subjective perception of dry mouth and whole body dry symptoms. The health status(${\beta}=-0.410$) had the influence on the oral health-related quality of life, nasal dryness(${\beta}=0.230$), age(${\beta}=0.189$), and halitosis (${\beta}=0.162) in order. Conclusions: The oral health-related quality of life was closely related to the health status and nasal dryness. It is necessary to develop the quality of life improvement programs including oral health prevention and care program in the social workers.

  • The purpose of this study was to provide data on the development of educational programs to maintain oral health in adolescence by identifying the relevance of health behavior and symptom to adolescents. The subjects of this study were 27,919 high school students' using the 15th (2019) Youth Health Behavior Online Survey. The logistic regression analysis was used to identify the factors influencing oral symptoms. The results showed that the recognition of gingiva pain was significantly lower in the subjects with male sex, lower education level, higher income level, and higher subjective perception of oral health. Higher the stress, higher the pain recognition, revealing a statistical significance. The awareness on bad breath-related symptoms was significantly higher in the adolescents with male sex, higher degree of stress, and lower frequency of daily toothbrushing. The lower awareness on halitosis was associated with higher income and higher subjective perception of oral health, showing a statistical significance. This study found that the health behavior of adolescents had an effect on their oral symptoms and the finding is expected to help develop programs for preventing those oral symptoms.

  • This study aims to analyze the relationship with oral health status through oral examinations, microorganism tests, and surveys of college students and present basic data necessary for the development of oral health education programs to prevent. Results of students who did not receive brushing education showed high motile activities of microorganism, and there was a significant relationship in which students with a large amount of microorganism subjectively felt more tooth pain. Symptoms of halitosis were greater in the DT, there were differences in the type of bacteria and the amount of bacteria in the MT, and oral health was worse if oral aids were not used in the DMFT index. Therefore, it was confirmed that oral health behavior, subjective oral health awareness, and the amount of microorganism had a significant relationship with oral health status. It will be necessary to develop and share and spread customized oral health education media for each life cycle.
