  • Purpose: The purpose of this study was to investigate the academic achievements, satisfaction and educational demands of nursing students at a college of nursing. Methods: The study subjects consisted of 134 senior nursing students who completed their clinical practicums. The students were asked to complete the evaluation survey for the curriculum. The evaluation survey for the curriculum consisted of three parts: 1) academic achievements of educational objectives, care of subjects, and skills; 2) satisfaction with the curriculum, clinical practice environment, and educational environment; 3) demands on the curriculum and clinical practicum. Results: The mean scores on the achievement levels of educational objectives, care of subjects and skills of the students were $3.68{\pm}0.53$, $3.69{\pm}0.59$, and $3.77{\pm}0.56$, respectively. The low rated domains were 'understanding and delivering culturally competent nursing' and 'competence in fundamental nursing skills' in their levels of achievements. Overall, students were satisfied with the nursing curriculum and educational environment. However, their satisfaction scores for the hours and arrangements of the clinical practicum, and the ratios and arrangements of lectures and clinical practicum were relatively low. Conclusion: The findings of this study are important to redesign nursing curriculum in order to prepare graduates for rapidly changing health care environments. We need to try various strategies to improve the clinical competencies of students by designing a curriculum based on social change and student needs.

  • Korea, where the national curriculum is run, can change school education by specifying basic competence in the common curriculum of elementary and middle schools for students to pursue school learning and real life. The numeracy as a basic competence should not be limited to mathematics, so it needs to be specified in the national curriculum covering several subjects and guided through various subject curriculums. To this end, the study proposed concepts, components, and levels of numeracy and proposed ways to reflect them in the national curriculum and other subjects' curricula. To ensure its validity, the UK, Canada and Australia curriculum are analyzed, and the results of the survey are proposed for various education experts. This study proposed two ways to briefly state the numeracy in the national curriculum and to imply the contents related to the numeracy in each subject curriculum, and to present the concepts, components and levels of numeracy in the national curriculum in detail and to describe numeracy code in each subject curriculum. These suggestions obtained high consent from experts.

  • Background: In the dental hygiene curriculum, efforts are being made to introduce an integrated curriculum based on the competency of a dental hygienist. Because there is a connection and overlap in learning contents between Dental Nutrition and Oral Biochemistry, which are basic dental hygiene subjects, it is possible to integrate these two subjects. This study aims to derive Nutritional Biochemistry as an integrated curriculum for Dental Nutrition and Oral Biochemistry, and to develop learning goals and competencies for Dental Nutritional Biochemistry. Methods: The learning contents of the integrated curriculum were composed by referring to the contents of the Dental Nutrition and Oral Biochemistry textbooks, and learning goals were derived from the learning contents. Moreover, competency was developed by analyzing the duties of a dental hygienist that can be performed through the learning goals. The Delphi survey was conducted twice to verify the content validity ratio (CVR) of the competence and the learning goal of the integrated curriculum. Results: In the first Delphi survey, the CVR for two competencies was 0.56 or higher. Moreover, it was revised based on expert's opinions, and as a result of the second Delphi survey after the revision, the CVR was either increased or maintained. Eighty-five learning goals were derived by referring to the textbook. According to CVR and expert opinions, after the first Delphi survey, the number of learning goals was reduced to 69. After the second Delphi survey, 68 learning goals were finally derived. Conclusion: The development process of the integrated curriculum conducted in this study can be utilized for integration between subjects in basic dental hygiene.

With the growth of the system, the standard curriculum of the ACBS turned out to have many problems which have to be solved for securing and maintaining the quality of the system. In an attempt to improve the standard liberal arts curriculum of the ACBS, the study analyzed the problems of standard liberal arts curriculum of the ACBS according to three criteria: the organization of subjects in the six liberal arts curriculum areas, the completion of liberal arts and the exchange subjects between majors and the liberal arts. Based on the results of the analysis, the study suggests ways to improve standard liberal arts curriculum. In the future, research needs to be conducted to explore ways to implement the proposed standard liberal arts curriculum of the ACBS in real contexts.

  • Purpose: The purpose of this study is to identify the compliance with the first standardization of the paramedic curriculum and suggest a second standardization to cultivate competent paramedics. Methods: This study was conducted by collecting 38 curricula, and responses to questionnaires, including those on the current status of prehospital field practice, from departments of emergency medical technology of 36 institutions. Data were collected between September 1 and November 30, 2019 via e-mail. Data were analyzed using SPSS v24.0 and NVivo 12.0. Results: Compliance with the first standardization of the paramedic curriculum was over 70% in only 11 on the 26 major subjects. The second standardization of the paramedic curriculum consists of 27 subjects requiring 76~79 credits for the 3-year course and 78~82 credits for the 4-year course. Conclusion: We suggested a minimum number of essential subjects to cultivate competent paramedics following the second standardization of the paramedic curriculum, and we hope colleges comply with this curriculum. Twenty to twenty-five percent of major subjects can be determined by the discretion of the college to maximize competency of paramedic students.

  • This study investigated how elementary school teachers reconstruct science curriculum and how they perceive about their experiences. In-depth interviews were conducted with four elementary school teachers who had experience in restructuring science curriculum. Two distinct types of reconstruction were found; restructuring within the subject and integrating between subjects. The teachers who were restructuring science curriculum from personal needs usually substitute, delete, add some contents or activities and change the order of unit within science subject. In contrast, the teachers who were participating in research school usually integrated science with other subjects, developing a new unit or project. The latter recognized the need of teachers' reconstruction of science curriculum more strongly and the importance of teacher's voluntary learning community in implementing the reconstruction. Though they had some difficulties in identifying students' interests and level of understanding and lack of time, all teachers valued curriculum reconstruction by relating it to teacher professional development, identity as a teacher, and job consciousness.

Results: As a result of this analysis of change of organization in curriculum for health education in Korea, the educational curriculum in Korea is proved to have established diverse subjects about health education in whole educational curriculum. The analysis of organization of educational curriculum in each term shows that subjects on health education has diminished in amount or weakened in content in the education of elementary, middle and high school, as they disappeared from organization of educational curriculum in 4th and 5th terms for education. Seventeen hours per year portioned for health education in revised educational curriculum for 2007, which is currently operated, has been analyzed as being very short to its full requirement. The significant increase of hours for education is demanded for health education to be systematic and practically helpful in actual field of education in schools. Conclusion: It is also demanded that the more diversified and systematic method of education should be applied to and operated for organization and operation of educational curriculum rather than strictly unified educational curriculum.
