In this study, we isolated bacteria from petroleum contaminated soil which were near to underground storage tanks(UST). Through the screen test, we selected high efficiency bacterium, KDi19, for biodegradation of diesel. KDi19 was identified as Pseudomonas sp. by 16S rDNA, fatty acid, and morphological physiological characteristics. KDi19 degraded 956.3 mg/L(95.6%) of 1,000 mg/L diesel for 48 hours(incubation condition : temperature; $30^{\circ}C$, cell concentration; 1.0 g/L, pH 7). At low temperature, $20^{\circ}C$, $15^{\circ}C$, $10^{\circ}C$, KDi19 respectively removed 63.9%, 18.5% and 17.0% of 1,000 mg/L diesel for 48 hours(cell concentration 1.0 g/L, pH 7). At low concentration of diesel, 50 mg/L and 100 mg/L, KDi19 degraded 97.9% and 96.2% of diesel for 24 hours(temperature; $30^{\circ}C$, cell concentration: 1.0 g/L, pH 7), respectively.

The purposes of this research are to examine soil pollution in the nation and to explore the contaminated soil management of the public housing agency in public land for residential development. In so doing, the primary and secondary data were utilized, the former made use of the public data annually released by the Korea Ministry of Environment, and the latter relied on a self-administerd questionnaire survey conducted in the staff of the public housing agency, particularly those in charge of soil contamination in large-scale land, housing and urban development projects. The findings reveal that the national concentrations of 21 inorganic and organic soil contaminants (e.g., Cd, Cu, As, Hg, Pb, Cr, Zn, Ni, F, P, PCB, CN, Phenol, BTEX, TPH, TCE, PCE, Benzo(a)pyrene, and pH) in the land were extracted to be well below the risk level designated by the statutory guidance while industrial areas had them at a relatively modest level. In addition, the survey results indicate that the public housing agency didn't establish specific and clear guidelines for soil pollution and its remediation in the residential land development, so that contaminated sites have been primarily remediated by outsourcing companies. As the unexpected occurrence of contaminated sites causes the incurring expenses added to total project budget, the provision of both professional training and on-site manuals with the sufficient information on techniques and methods of soil contamination is critical to promptly and systematically deal with soil pollution.

The purpose of this study was to suggest a standard design procedure of landfarming for clean-up of oil-contaminated soils. The standard design procedure consisted of four main phases; soil characterization, determination of contaminated soil volume, determination of nutrient and microbial doses, and estimation of the total remedial period. This study selected standard design parameter values or ranges among various forms used in environmental engineer communities. Those were determination procedures for the contaminated soil volume, the initial contamination concentration and nutrient doses. The suggested standard design procedure were applied for a landfarm design for remediation of a real oil-contaminated site. Soil texture of the site was classified as sandy clay loam and sandy loam. Total nitrogen and total phosphorus were estimated to be 57.01 mg/kg and 83.40 mg/kg, respectively. Also the viable bacterial numbers was assessed to be $1.78{\times}10^4CFU/g$ dry soil. The amount of TPH contaminated soil was estimated to be $4,092m^3$. With the application of remedial factors, it was estimated that the contaminated soil could be treated through 9 batches with a duration of 315 days for a landfarming unit of $15m{\times}40m{\times}1m$. The amount of liquid microorganisms and fertilizers were recommended to be 4,025L and 4,641kg, respectively.
Lab scale batch and column tests were performed to investigate the treatability of petroleum contaminated soil using the in-situ soil flushing method. The pyrex column (4.5$\times$25 cm) was used to investigate optimal washing agent, surfactant concentration, mixing ratio, and inlet velocity. The miked surfactant of $POE_{14}$ and SDS were determined as ideal systems for the batch tests. From the results of preliminary tests, mixed surfactant was found to be more harmful for microorganisms. So $POE_{5}$ and $POE_{14}$ were chosen as the surfactant system for the batch study. The washing efficiency for the diesel contaminated soil was increased until 1 %, and decreased after l %. When applied as selected mixed surfactant, the ideal mixed ratio was recognized as 1:1. Therefore we selected miked surfactant $POE_{5}$ and $POE_{14}$, surfactant concentration 1%, and mixed ratio 1:1 for the remediation of diesel contaminated soil. In column tests, the total removal efficiency was improved as the flux of washing agent was increased. At the same pore volume, small flux showed better removal efficiency.

This study evaluated the environmental impacts of a soil washing (SW) process, especially, we compared the on-site and off-site remediation of TPH-contaminated soil using green and sustainable remediation (GSR) tool. To assess relative contribution of each stage on environmental footprints in the entire soil washing process, we classified the process into four major stages: site foundation (stage I), excavation (stage II), separation & washing (stage III), and wastewater treatment (stage IV). In on-site SW process, the relative contribution of $CO_2$ emissions and energy consumption were 87.1% and 80.4%, respectively in stage I, and in off-site SW process, the relative contribution of $CO_2$ emissions and energy consumption were 82.7% and 80.5%, respectively in stage II. In conclusion, the major factor contributing environmental impact in the SW process were consumable materials including steel and stainless steel for washing equipment in on-site treatment and fuel consumption for transportation of soil in off-site treatment.
Esthetic availabilities used as an esthetic restorative maternals can be determined by the optical coincidence among materials, enamel and dentin. Enamel is highly translucent. That's why esthetic materials need to correspond the close translucency of enamel. But the translucent materials are affected by the background color. So it should be predicted that the color of estorative materials depend on the any thickness and the spectral reflectance of the background on which they are placed. The object of this investigation, under above hypothesis, was to determine and analyze how they affect the final color according to the thickness, translucency and background color (white, black and dentin) fill three commercial light cured composite resins(Charisma, Spectrum TPH and Z100). And correlation was analyzed to find out the possibility of the prediction when using the certain background color and thickness of materials. Followings are the result 1. The I shade of CHA showed the lowest contrast ratio($Co_7$) while the B3 shade of Z100 showed the highest contrast ratio(p<0.05). 2. The value of $L^*$ and $b^*$ on the white and dentin background is increased with decreasing thickness. And there are significant relationships between increasing thickness and each value(R>0.085). But there is a little change of $L^*$ and $b^*$ value on the black background regardless of the thickness(p>0.05). 3. For the $a^*$ value, there was little difference in values as a function of thickness and changed irregularly regardless of thickness in all background. 4. The pattern of increasing value of $L^*$ and $b^*$ with decreasing thickness was similar to the group of white and dentin background. In both dentin one showed lesser change of value. 5. The values of $L^*a^*b^*$ measured on the different background with same thickness showed the recognizable color difference(${\Delta}E^*$>2) when the thickness was below 2.6mm. 6. Contrast ratio was increased with increasing thickness with significant relationship (R>0.9). 7. Spectral reflectance of composite resins that calculated from Kubelka-Munk equation was showed little difference compared with observed value w1th decreasing thickness.
This study evaluated the marginal microleakage of five single step adhesives. Class V cavity preparations with occlusal margins in enamel and gingival margins in dentin were prepared on both buccal and lingual surfaces of extracted human molar teeth. Prepared teeth were randomly divided into five groups and restored using one of the single step adhesives and composite resins:Prompt L-Pop/Filtek Z-250 (Group 1), AQ Bond/Metafil CX (Group 2), One-Up Bond F/Palfique Toughwell (Group 3). Futurabond/Admira (Group 4), Xeno III/Spectrum TPH (Group 5). The restored teeth were thermocycled. Microleakage was assessed by dye penetration using 2% methylene blue dye solution. The teeth were bisected buccolingually and evaluated for microleakage under steromicroscope. The data were statistically analysed by Kruskal-Wallis test and Mann-Whitney tests. The results of this study were as follows:1. Microleakage of enamel margins in group 3 was statistically higher than that in groups 1, 2, 4, 5 (p < 0.05). 2. Microleakage of dentin margins in group 1 was statistically higher than that in groups 2, 5, and that in group 3 was statistically higher than that in groups 2, 4, 5 (p < 0.05). 3. Dentin marginal microleakage was higher than enamel marginal microleakage in all experimental groups. In conclusion, Prompt L-Pop showed the least leakage at enamel margin, and AQ Bond showed at dentin margin in this study. Marginal miroleakage in dentin was higher than that in enamel.
Soil samples used in this study were taken from the site at which diesel spill accident had occurred in 1995. It was confirmed that all of soil samples were contaminated with diesel which was going on weathering. The concentrations of diesel in soils were determined by Korea standard method revised in July 1999 (Method 1) and US EPA method 8015b (Method 2). Some additional soil samples were analyzed with Korea standard method revised in July 2002 (Method 3) to compare the accuracy and reproducibility with Method 2. The only four of forty-six samples were determined when the analysis carried out according to Method 1 while forty-three of forty-six samples had the value above criterion (2000mg kg$^{-1}$ ) according to Method 2. There were no significant differences between the results of the analysis by Method 2 and Method 3. Based on these results, Method 2 and 3 were more appropriate than Method 1 for the determination of weathered diesel in soil. Method 2 had almost equivalent accuracy and reproducibility to Method 3.
To get a satisfactory result in the composite resin restorations, it is necessary to choose correct shade. At present, most of the commercial composite resins are based on the Vita Lumin shade guide or Bioform shade guide, but color differences might be expected even using the same shade in various materials. In this study, five kinds of light-cured composite resins with A2 and B3 shade were used to measure and compare the color each other while one porcelain served as a control. All composite resins (Spectrum TPH (SP), VeridonFil- Photo (VE), Z100 (Z100), Charisma (CH), Prodigy (PRO)) were filled in to the metal mold (12 mm diameter, 2 mm depth), followed by compression, polymerization and polishing with wet sandpaper. The specimens of porcelain were fabricated by using the refractory mold for porcelain. After 24 hours, the specimens were placed on the spectrocolorimeter and spectral reflectance were measured under CIE illuminant D65. After measuring the values of $L^*$, $a^*$, $b^*$ and ${\Delta}E^*$, following results were obtained; 1. The $L^*$, $a^*$ and $b^*$ values of both shade of porcelain specimens showed significantly higher than those of resin specimens(p<0.05). 2. In comparing the resin specimens of the A2 shade, differences were significant except $L^*$ values of SP-CH and PRO-VE, $a^*$ values of the VE-SP and $b^*$ values of the VE-Z100 and SP-PRO(p<0.05), 3. In comparing the resin specimens of the B3 shade, differences were significant except $L^*$ values of PRO-SP, $a^*$ values of the SP-PRO and Z100-VE and b* values of the PRO-SP(p<0.05). 4. In comparing the resin specimens of the A2 shade, color differences between materials (${\Delta}E^*$) showed the lowest value of 1.66, and the highest was 5.16. ${\Delta}E^*$ values of the materials of VE-PRO, CH-PRO, SP-PRO, SP-Z100 and SP-CH were lower than 3.3. 5. In comparing the resin specimens of the B3 shade, the lowest value of the ${\Delta}E^*$ was 0.57 and the highest was 5.92. ${\Delta}E^*$ values of Z100-CH and SP-PRO were lower than 3.3. The present study revealed there was perceptible color difference between materials even if they have the same designated shade based on Vita shade guide. The results of the present study suggested that it would be necessary to establish the reproducible and constant color specification system for an esthetic restoration.

This study was aimed to make GIS oiling thematic maps and analyze temporal oiling variation patterns for two months after 'Hebei Spirit' oil spill accident in December 7, 2007 using GIS and oiling status surveyed data. As a basic work for making of oiling thematic maps, geometric corrections were performed with IKONOS images using ground control points data. These corrected images were used to make detailed coastline from digital charts, and then spatial unit of coastline were defined using classified coastline types. And to know the representative parameters which reflect oiling situation, relationship between oiling status parameters extracted from four times oiling assessment reports and total petroleum hydrocarbons (TPHs) data (December 2007 and January 2008) monitored by Korea Ocean Research and Development Institute (KORDI). Using these representative oiling status parameters pollution value were calculated, and they were keyed into spatial unit of coastline as attributive value. GIS oiling status thematic maps made with coastline containing pollution value showed the initial two month's situations somewhat well. Also, to analyze temporal variation pattern of coastline types, about 13.4km length coastline around Malripo beach was defined as detailed study area where is the common spatial zone surveyed oiling status by each organizations. Based on this study results, it could be possible to provide oiling status maps quickly and to support decision making for oiling control action and scientific pollution monitoring.
