  • Objectives : Taichi for arthritis was developed in 1997 by Paul Lam, M.D. of family medicine in Australia. It is an exercise treatment program and a good approaching method of the oriental medicine for arthritis. However, clinical and academical researches were rare. The purpose of this study is to investigate the effectiveness of the Taichi for arthritis. Methods : We used the medical literature search system, MEDLIS and the database of academic journal, DBpia to search medical studies published in korea. Keywords were "Taichi", "Tai Chi Chuan" and "Arthritis". We classified literatures with two criteria, year of publishment and study design. Then we classified as placebo design and summarized whole material. We determined its effectiveness by positive-negative results of Taichi for arthritis. Results : Taichi for arthritis could release pain of the rheumatoid or degenerative arthritis. Also it is thought to increase muscular power and enhance physical flexibility, balance. Conclusions : There were limits to ensure effectiveness because of small number of studies comparing Taichi with other exercise program for arthritis. However the Taichi for arthritis could have positive effect to treat the rheumatoid and degenerative arthritis. We hope further studies to be followed in oriental medical field.

  • Objectives: This study was performed to investigate the research trends of physical activities interventions such as yoga, taichi, and qigong to reduce anxiety. Methods: Korean databases were searched for articles related to survey of physical activity interventions (yoga, taichi, qigong) to reduce anxiety from 2009 to 2015. Results: Fifteen articles published in Korean journals from 2009 to 2015 were retrieved. The quality of studies were generally low and characteristics of subject were not homogeneous. Spielberger State Trait Anxiety Inventory (STAI) was used most frequently as an assessment tool. The included publications included 9 articles on yoga, 4 articles on qigong, and 2 articles on taichi. Of these, 8 of 9 articles on yoga, 2 of 4 articles on qigong, and 2 of 2 articles on taichi reported that intervention group showed statistically significant decrease of anxiety symptoms. Conclusions: In this study, physical activity interventions such as yoga, taichi and qigong might be beneficial for reducing anxiety. However, more scientifically designed research on physical activity- based treatments are needed to prove the efficacy and effectiveness.

  • Recently, the basic research which is supported by engineering has been studied in order to develop oriental medicine scientifically. However, the research only has been limited to quantization, visualization and generalization of biological signal. In this paper, we studied about the effects to 12 Kyungmaks of Body based on meridian theory in oriental medicine after Taichi practice. we measured the heating time on the key measuring point of the meridian of the human body's left and right by using heating machine. After taichi practice than other stimulation, experimental results showed that disharmony state of meridian had changed to harmony state more quickly.

  • Our purpose is to develop an efficient synthetic method of obtaining oligosaccharide unit in sufficient amounts to study functions of glycans. Many exoglycosidases have been used as tools for the oligosaccharide synthesis. In contrast, a limited number of reports are available on the utilization of endoglycosidases. We describe herewith the efficient synthetic method of useful oligosaccharides and derivatives as biomaterials utilizing lysozyme, cellulase, and lacto-N-biosidase-mediated transglycosyltions.

  • This paper presents a new stochastic binary neural network based on the Hopfield model. We apply the proposed network to TSP and compare it with other methods by computer simulations. Furthermore, we apply 2-opt to the proposed network to improve the performance.
