The Operation and Vibration Characteristics of Tail-Fan Performance Test System (테일팬 성능시험장치의 운용과 진동특성)

  • This paper described operation and vibration characteristics of 'Tail-Fan' performance test system. KARI(Korea Aerospace Research Institute) developed 'Tail-Fan' system as a kind of helicopter anti-torque system(ATS) and designed ATS performance test-rig for Tail-Fan system performance test. Test-rig consists of driving parts, supporting parts and rotating parts. For Tail-Fan system performance tests, firstly, test-rig operation tests were carried out for verification of design specifications. Secondly, natural frequencies of fan blade and test-rig were measured respectively. Lastly, to find the operation rotating speed for performance tests, vibration tests using accelerometers on tail gear box(TGB) were carried out. Through the fanplot and vibration test results, Tail-Fan performance test conditions to avoid a resonance were found and performance tests were well done safely.

  • This paper described improvement and operation of a 'Tail-Fan' anti-torque performance test system KARI (Korea Aerospace Research Institute) developed a 'Tail-Fan' anti-torque system of a helicopter and a performance test-rig to test the performance of the Tail-Fan. The test-rig was improved for full rotating test in 4300rpm(100%). Machinery and hydraulic parts ware changed to reduce vibration and to increase safety. To find the operation rotating speed for the performance test, vibration test were carried out rising accelerometers on tail gear box. The performance test conditions of the Tail-Fan to avoid a resonance were found from vibration test results. The Tail-Fan operation tests were performed safely frier to carry out performance test.

  • In winter season the driving test of the KTX showed the excessive vibration in the tail cars. In this paper, the measured KTX vibration data during test run is analyzed in time and frequency domain. And the numerical simulations using ANSYS and ADAMS are done on the basis of the experimental observations. The results show that 0.6Hz of the tail car motion is due to the natural mode of car combination of the KTX.

  • In a wheel loader, the tail-pipe is installed at the exhaust tube of muffler for the reduction of exhaust noise and the cooling of engine room however, the cabin noise level can be largely increased due to the tail-pipe. In this paper, to grasp and reduce the cabin noise, a series of noise and vibration tests were carried out in addition to numerical simulations. As a result, the transmission path of exhaust noise toward the cabin was exactly identified and the improved shape of tail pipe, that can reduce the cabin noise, was derived through various numerical simulations and real tests.

  • Zero tail type mini excavator is small in size and capacity compared with medium or large excavator. Therefore noise and heat problems are major issues in design due to layout of each components such as engine and hydraulic module. It is necessary to assure reduction of noise and vibration in construction machine, due to be enforced regulation for high noise construction machinery at home and abroad. The objective of this study is to provide basic data which is apply to predict noise effect in detail design stage by estimating noise of cabin for zero tail type mini excavator.

  • In this study, vibration and aeroelastic analyses of a T-tail have been conducted. The structural dynamic computations of the T-tail are performed using MSC/NASTRAN and CFD-based computational aeroelastic analysis method is used to investigate the complex flutter phenomena. The results for vibration and aeroelastic analyses in the frequency and time domains are presented. It is importantly shown that the modal coupling of the torsional mode of vertical-wing and the asymmetric bending mode of horizontal-wing parts can give sensitive effects for the flutter stability of T-tail configurations.

  • Three noded plate and shell finite element and 3D beam element in conjunction with Lanczos method are used for studying the effect of boat tail angle on the free vibration characteristics of a typical payload fairing for three different cylinder diameters with height to diameter ratio 1.5. Configurations without boat tail structural member are also studied. One half of the one side fairing structure is considered for the analysis and symmetric boundary conditions are used.
