  • This paper proposes a prediction model of air traffic controller's take-off clearance under mixed mode runway operations. The proposed model has its purpose on the better prediction of the air traffic controller's clearance on take-offs of departure aircraft by considering various factors. For this purpose, support vector machine classification algorithm is used for the proposed model. The proposed model is applied to real air traffic operations to demonstrate its performances.

  • The purpose of this study was to evaluate the kinematic characteristics of 5th hurdle clearance during the 100m hurdle final competition at the 2010 Colorful DaeGu pre-championship meeting. This study was also intended to provide the technical data for better performance for preparing the 2011 world championship. Lee and Jung need to change technical movement by reducing the distance of the take-off point from the hurdle and by decreasing the vertical velocity of the C.G.(center of gravity) at the takeoff. Powell's angle of the take-off leg showed bigger at the touchdown and smaller at the takeoff comparing to Lee's and Jung's. Furthermore, Powell's horizontal velocity of the C.G. was maintained at the takeoff and touchdown. So, Lee and Jung need to change angle of the take-off leg the same as Powell's. Both Lee and Jung need to increase the angle of landing leg at the touchdown. In addition to increasing the angle Jung needs to improve the knee and ankle velocity with the hurdling leg.

  • The purpose of this study was to analyze the angular momentum characteristics of the Fosbury Flop high jump and the role of the body segments for the production of 3 angular momentum components. The subjects were three male jumpers who were former Korean national team players. Their jumping motions were analyzed using the DLT method of three-dimensional cinematography. The conclusions were as follows. 1. All the forward angular momentum needed to clear the bar was created in the take-off phase. Take-off leg was the great contributor of the forward angular momentum. On the other hand, free leg produced large opposite angular momentum. 2. All subject had some lateral angular momentum before the take-off phase. Head and free leg had major contribution to the lateral angular momentum production. Take-off leg produced opposite angular momentum. 3. All subject had some twisting angular momentum, which make the back of the athlete him to the bar, before the take-off phase. Free leg was the major contributor of the twisting angular momentum. Head and trunk was the second contributor of the twisting angular momentum. 4. Total angular momentum needed to clear the bar had no significant correlation to the jumping height. 5. Subject who made excessive angular momentum showed different pattern of angular momentum production and had a poor record compared to other subject.

  • The purpose of this study was to analyze, from a kinematical point of view, the high jump techniques of three women's high jump winners at the IAAF World Championships, Daegu 2011. The trends for the techniques of the world's top high jumpers were examined, with a view toward adapting these techniques to the physical characteristics of Korean women's high jumpers. It was valuable that Di Martino, who was the shortest in height, was able to win a medal by using a single arm swing take-off technique, along with a half flexed leading leg swing to attain a deep arch and clear the bar. This showed that the world's top athletes used jumping techniques with no decrease in the run-up velocity at the take-off. Furthermore, It appeared that the knee joint angle at take-off had a direct effect on the body position at take-off (H1).

  • This study was conducted to investigate the performance times, CM position and CM speed, pole chord length and pole chord angle, whole body angular momentum(X axis), and grip width in pole vault event according to the event and phase; touch down, pole plant, take-off, maximum pole bending pole straight, pole release, peak height, and foot contact, pole contact, free flight. The pole vaulting of four male elite vaulters including six trial were filmed using two video digital cameras at 60 Hz at 56th national athletic match, and data were collected through the DLT method of three dimensional cinematography. In general the better jumper is, the longer the performance time is. And the greater CM speed is, and the better his transformation ability of CM horizontal speed into vertical speed is. As he uses a longer pole, his grip is higher, and it is a enough for him to rock back his body, so that he pulls and pushes the pole well keeping his hips close to. An greater maximum angular momentum and early positioning of the hips parallel to the bar makes his body far side of the bar and his bar clearance easier. Specially our national jumper needs to have more powerful braking force during foot contact phase, and take his body on the pole after maximum pole bending, and pull and push the pole strongly keeping his hips close to. Also he needs to have stronger muscular strength in order to control the longer pole and use the pole of proper tension more efficiently.

  • The purpose of this study was to investigate the kinematic characteristics of the $5^{th}$ and $6^{th}$ hurdle clearances during the final of the 100-m hurdles event at the IAAF World Championships, Daegu 2011. To this end, the hurdling motions of the top 4 ranked female hurdlers in the competition were analyzed. A total of 12 cameras were used to record their motions, with a sampling frequency of 120 Hz. The cameras were calibrated using $11{\times}2{\times}1\;m$ control objects that covered all of the lanes ($1^{st}{\sim}8^{th}$ lanes). After analyzing all the data, we arrived at the following results. For the take-off phase, a negative relationship between the take-off time (CT) and athlete's rank was found. In addition, the average distances from the hurdle to take-off (L1) were shown to be 2.23 m and 2.17 m for the $5^{th}$ and $6^{th}$ hurdles, respectively. For the distance from the hurdle to landing (L2), Pearson ($1^{st}$ rank) and Carruthers($2^{nd}$ rank) showed inconsistent patterns whereas Harper ($3^{rd}$ rank) and Porter ($4^{th}$ rank) showed consistent patterns. All althetes revealed similar 3 steps patterns between hurdles, which consisted of a shorter $1^{st}$ step, longer $2^{nd}$ step and shorter $3^{rd}$ step.

In the take-off phase, all athletes revealed similar take-off times (CT), and similar distances from the take-off to hurdleto (L1) and hurdle to landing (L2). In particular, Turner, ranked $3^{rd}$, had an inconsistent L2 and may need further training to correct it. In the flight phase, Richardson, ranked $1^{st}$, showed the longest flight distance, whereas Xiang, who was ranked $2^{nd}$, showed the highest CG height from the hurdle. For the step patterns, to increase the pitch frequency, Richardson and Xiang used shorter 3-step lengths than Turner and Oliver.
