The Effects of Tetragonality to the Physical Properties of PZT (PZT에서 Tetragonality 변화에 따른 물성변화)

  • Tetragonal phase PZT ceramics with a tetragonality of c/a=1.027 to 1.041 were sintered at 1275$^{\circ}C$ for one hour. And the directionality of domain arrangement, microstructure, dielectric and aging properties were investigated. With increasing tetragonality, the directionality of domain arrangement of 180$^{\circ}$-domain on the surface is smaller than that in the internal part of specimens. Dielectric constants after poling are increased due to the increased internal energy or decreased due to the microcracks created by poling.

Synthesis and Characterization of BaTiO3 Powder by Solid State Method (고상반응법을 이용한 BaTiO3 합성 및 특성 평가)

  • BaTiO3 powder was synthesized by a solid-state reaction using BaCO3 and TiO2. Different calcination temperatures (800℃, 850℃, 900℃, and 950℃) were set to investigate their effects on the properties of BaTiO3 powder. The synthesized BaTiO3 phase was confirmed to be a single phase by XRD, and the tetragonality (c/a) and crystallite size were calculated. Thereafter, each calcinated BaTiO3 was sintered at five different sintering temperatures (1,100℃, 1,150℃, 1,200℃, 1,250℃, and 1,300℃), and the tetragonality, density, porosity, dielectric constant, and grain size were measured. As the calcination temperature increased, the tetragonality and crystallite size also increased, to 1.008 and 66 nm, respectively, at 950℃. Moreover, most pellets showed increased density, dielectric constant, and tetragonality as the sintering temperature increased up to 1,250℃; the same parameters slightly decreased at 1,300℃. It is noteworthy that the tetragonality of BaTiO3 at 1,250℃ exhibits a very high c/a value of 1.0084. In addition, the grain size and dielectric constant measured near the Curie temperature increased as the sintering temperature increased.

  • The purpose of this investigation was to study the stability of perovskite structure, the variation of electrical properties and a microstructure with varing amount of PbTiO3 additive in PZN-PT-BT system. The results are as follows: 1. The pyrochlore phase was reduced as the amount of PbTiO3 additive was increased and completely eliminated at 0.15PT in PZN-PT-BT system. 2. The aging rate was increased in proportion to tetragonality because the internal stress was increased in proportion to tetragonality. 3. On increasing the amount of PbTiO3 additive, the Curie temperature was increased in proportion to tetragonality. 4. As the amount of PT in the composition increase, the variation of dielectric constant was sharpened and the diffuseness of the transition decreased.

Microstructure and Piezoelectric Characteristics of PSN-PZT Ceramics as a Function of PNW Substitution (PNW 치환에 따른 PSN-PZT 세라믹스의 미세구조 및 압전특성)

  • In this study, microstructure and piezoelectric properties of PSN-PZT ceramics modified with BiFeO$_3$ were investigated as a function of PNW substitution. With the increase of PNW substitution, tetragonality, Curie temperature and mechanical quality factor were decreased but grain size and electromechanical coupling factor(kp) was gradually increased. At 4 mol[%] PNW substitution, maximum kp of 0.567 was obtained.

Piezoelectric and Electric Field Induced Strain Properties of PMW-PNN-PZT Ceramics with the Substitution of Ba (Ba 치환에 따른 PMW-PNN-PZT 세라믹스의 압전 및 전계유기왜형 특성)

  • To develop the piezoelectric actuator, the structural, dielectric and piezoelectric properties and electric fieldinduced strain of the ceramics(Pb$\_$1-2/Ba$\_$x/)[Mg$\_$1/2/W$\_$1/2/)$\_$0.03/-Ni$\_$1/3/Nb$\_$2/3/)$\_$0.12/-(Zr$\_$0.5/Ti$\_$0.5/)$\_$0.85/]O$_3$(x=0, 0.01, 0.03, 0.05, 0.07, 0.1) were investigated with the substitution of Ba. The tetragonality of crystal structure and grain size decreased by the substitution of Ba. Curie temperature decreased due to the decrease of the tetragonality, and dielectric constants increased with the substitution of Ba. The coercive field, remnant polarization and electromechanical coupling factor also decreased, whereas the piezoelectric constatns d$\_$33/ and d$\_$31/ were showed the highest value of 430 and 209(x10$\^$-12/C/N), respectively, because of the increase of dielectric constant. The strain induced by 60Hz AC electric field had the maximum value of 204x10$\^$-6/Δℓ/ℓ at the substitution of Ba 3mol%. As the applied electric field approaches to the coercive field, the piezoelectric element is depolarized and the electric field induced strain revealed non-linearity.

  • In order to evaluate the properties of the sintered zirconia for optical ferrule, specimens were prepared at 1350, 1400 and $1450^{\circ}C$ using starting materials supplied by A, B and C providers. Crystallinity, microstructure and mechanical strength were tested as a function of sintering temperature. Crystallinity of the sintered specimens was determined by X-ray diffraction analysis. A field emission-scanning electron microscope was used for studying the microstructure after sintering. Bending strength and Vickers' hardness were also examined by universial tester and Vickers' hardness tester, respectively. The specimen B sintered at $1350^{\circ}C$ was favorable because of its high tetragonality and good mechanical strength for practical usage.

  • The change in microstructure and the electrical properties of Pb(In1/2Nb1/2)O3-PbTiO3 Ceramics caused by V2O5 addition were studied. The results are ; 1. interability was increased because the mass transport through the second phase formed by V2O5 addition increased. 2. ith addition of V2O5, tetragonality and Curie temperature increased. The maximum value of kp was observed when 0.5wt% of V2O5 was added. 3. he second phase formed by V2O5 accelerated the grain growth, and existed in grain boundary. Electrical properties were changed by corelations between tetragonality and the amount of second phase.

  • A remarkable improvement of the productivity in barium titanate by slurry spray pyrolysis process was realized by supplying solid source slurry into the rector. The produced barium titanate powders showed uniform powder properties, and reproducibility with higher tetragonality in the range of 80$\sim$200 nm, case by case. The secondary calcination experiments of the as-prepared powders by spray pyrolysis revealed that the powders as-prepared over 700$^{\circ}C$ showed perfectly different behavior with the lower temperature's ones and the solid state reaction’s case. The result was discussed in terms of the reaction mechanism based on the activation energy analysis.

  • In this study, the effects of $Nb_{2}O_{5}$ addition on microstructure and piezoelectric characteristics of PNW-PMN-PZT ceramics were investigated. As $Nb_{2}O_{5}$ addition amount is increased, grain size is gradully decreased. At 0.3wt%$Nb_{2}O_{5}$ addition composition ceramics, maximum density, tetragonality and piezoelectric characteristics were obtained.

Structural and Dielectric Properties of PLT Thin Plates (PLT 박편의 구조 및 유전특성)

  • La-modified $PbTiO_{3}$(PLT) thin plates were prepared for the fabrication of PLT pyroelectric IR sensors. The effects of the preparation parameters such as tile sintering temperature, the La content, and the ambient powder quantity, on the microstructural and dielectric properties of PLT thin plates were investigated by X-ray diffraction, scanning electron microscope, and measurements of relative density and dielectric properties. With an increased La content, the tetragonality c/a was decreased but the densification and the grain size were increased, which is considered to be due to the increased Pb vacancy concentration to maintain charge neutrality at the increased of La content. When the quantity of the ambient powder wvas increased, the tetragonality was slightly increased, which is believed io be due to the reduced evaporation of PbO. But the e(fect is insignificant compared to that of La content. The dielectric constant at room temperature was increased and the Curie temperature was decreased in accordance with the decreased tetragonality ratio c/a with the increase of La content. The dielectric constant and tan ${\delta}$ of $500{\mu}m$ thick PLT thin plate with 10 wt% excess PbO and 10 mol% La contant sintered at $1250^{\circ}C$ for 2 hours in ambient powder of $0.02\;g/cm^{3}$ were 360 and 0.02, respectively.
